Matchday programmes at Bower Fold

Printers schedule jobs/press slots based on deadlines to receive copy. I have worked with printers for 20 years. Dozens of different printers. Small businesses, big businesses. Companies all over the country.

In that 20 years and hundreds of pieces of collateral produced, only three times has the material been late.

Once when I missed final copy deadline because my boss wouldn't approve copy to play a political game.

Once the printer refused to carry out work because a different arm of the organisation I worked for hadn't paid the previous two invoices.

But only ONCE in 20 years has a printer simply let me down. And they lost my business.

Printers simply don't mess up this often. If the client meets the agreed production schedule and pays their bills then 99.9% of print is on time.

There are people on here who know far more of the details why there hasn't been anything for a while. I have just overheard a conversation which isn't for me to disclose. I have said above what i've heard.

Tosh...it's the digital/social media age and there is a genuine argument that a programme, as a means of relaying information, is totally outdated and redundant.

An online subscription, or pay as you read, or advert supported e-version/extension to the fan app may be the way to go.

But the demographic of our fans and sponsors (older) means that some will always prefer a hard copy....either as a means of getting info or as a game souvenir.

And lets not forget that at £2 a pop it is a valuable revenue generator at the moment. So a missed opportunity the club can ill afford.

Please don't patronise me Tubey. I have spent literally millions on printing, i'm also well aware of the digital age having been involved in the forefront of the electronics industry for many years. I am also aware that the club needs money and programs raise valuable revenue. But you seem to be assuming it's the clubs fault! As ever it would be helpful if they made a statement but they haven't. I understand some of your frustrations but they are not always to blame.

Tosh, Why do you think that's patronising? Just outlining the situation and my opinion. That's what a forum is for.

I don't know you or your background. Do you expect me to?

Even if I did, in a public conversation - seen by and including many people who may not have a printing or digital background - I would always outline the context and background to my opinion.

That's not patronising. It's how online group discussion works.

And in response to your accusation that I assume it's the club's fault....yes I do.

I assume it's the clubs fault.

And yes, I know that may be wrong. It may even be prejudice. I totally admit I have no specific evidence on this occasion to support that assumption.

But I can only base my very human reactions on past evidence.

In my experience of thousands of interactions with a wide variety of printing firms, they very rarely make mistakes, miss deadlines or mislead/let down their customers.

I cannot say the same about my experience of ORLFC 1997.

It was patronising because you made the assumption i had no understanding of the age we live in and the value of the revenue the program brings - simples. The club have apologised but said it is due to circumstances beyond their control. https://www.facebook.com/roughyeds/

I think i said this at the start  - hey ho!

Edited following PM conversation with Tosh.

Honestly not my intention to patronise.

Yes I have concerns about how the club manages revenue streams and relationships with partners, including printers.

Fundamentally it's the club's product and their job to get this right. I don't like buck passing. Project management 101- Deliver on time. Repeated failures mean new printers or processes are needed.

However, I accept that those contributing to the programme and those commenting here have the best intentions and that sometimes sh!t happens.

One missed programme could be down to the printers . . . . Maybe having burnt to the ground ? ? But 2 consecutive games with missed programmes is to put it bluntly PATHETIC . . . You can't blame the second on the printer. . . as the obvious conclusion should have been arrived at after the first mishap shall we say
