While still early in the season,Swinton and Oldham seem to be improving by the week,Whitehaven with two games in hand on us,are we in a relegation fight already? Are Workington last year's Doncaster, are we last year's Batley? This season's league already looks more stronger and competitive then last year.

I don't think it is stronger but maybe a bit more even. Based upon playing budgets, which sadly are a reliable indicator of general outcomes, we are 7th or 8th, and that's where I think we'll end up (and said so before the season began). The "top" teams are well short of their quality just a year ago and a couple of others, including us, have gone backwards a little. It happens.

Most disappointingly it looks like deciding to run with a reserve team and not using that money for recruitment may come back to haunt us. I am not criticising that decision and always felt it was the right one, but as things are panning out there we may have been better joining the less visionary clubs after all.

Sport, amongst other things, is a dream-world offering escape from harsh reality and the disturbing prospect of change.

I think Dewsbury should be commended for running a second team and I wish Batley (and others) would follow suit to give local lads a taste of semi-pro Rugby. the clubs should also run or cooperate with junior clubs too

I believe every club in the championship should have a reserve team. If you don't run a reserve team you shouldn't be allowed to enter the comp. It's a laughing stock the reserve comp, more needs to be done to get it up

And running like the A team days. Players like Glover, the Delaneys, Teanby, Muranaka have all

Come through our reserves. Lose this, we lose players like these who then stay playing amatuer. It's to clubs benefits to run one so why clubs don't is sad. Doing nothing for the game. Without a reserves team in 2002, would Danny Brough have ever gone on to where he is now??

Agreed. I think the standard overall has probably dropped a little bit this season and promotion is further away for any team than last year. Whoever finishes in 3rd and 4th spot will be embarrassed badly in the middle 8's I feel.

Got to agree 100%,we've played all of what is the top 4 at the moment plus fev & I've got to say they'll get murdered in the 8's. Bull's & Leigh don't look as good this year even your own team haven't hit the heights of last season yet, well what I saw of Sheffield they looked very poor, but they went to Bradford last week & pummelled them.

I think out of all the teams we have played so far, ( can't believe I am saying this!) Batley have been the most impressive. They play with a high intensity that I haven't seen from so called better (full time) teams. Sheffield are probably the worst but like GF says they took Bradford apart. It's a strange season so far.

We are way off, Fax from last year would beat Fax from this year by 40 imo. No disrespect to Fev, Batley, and London but they are way off the quality of the Fax and Sheffield teams from last year that for the most part(Well Fax anyway) competed in the middle 8's.

I know it's a bit early for getting the heebie jeebies just yet, but I couldn't help getting an uncomfortable feeling of dejavu on Sunday - it had all the hallmarks of the last months of the AK and Wozzer reigns. Hope we're not going to get that uncomfortable "looking over the shoulder" feeling every week from now until the end of the season. Like I said, a bit early to worry yet but all the same .....  :superstition:

Think we were always going to struggle to some extent given that we couldn't replace Thackeray with a player of similar quality. It is a real shame that the Sammut rumours never came to fruition. What has disappointed me so far is how our potentially best set of forwards, particularly front rowers have not performed. Massive shame that we couldn't get Johnson fit and that Heppy has struggled with injury. If they had played as we had hoped then perhaps the half backs at our disposal could have been more effective.

Still the season isn't over yet, you never know! Yes I am an optimist and a realist.......the glass is always half full, it's just that what's in the glass is not always drinkable! ;)

We've had two deplorable second half performances. Our tackling ability, is without doubt, the worst I've seen in a long time watching Dewsbury and here I blame the coach, as he directs the way should it be done.

Every week we try and tackle the shoulder of an opponent and even with three players surrounding the ball handler, he manages to get a pass away after we allow him to make great yards forward. Our right flank lets in tries each week, usually because the wingman has disappeared.

Unless some radical changes occur we are doomed, doomed I tell you, to at least finishing outside the top eight.

We had better treat York on Friday with great respect. They have racked up some big scores each week. You might say they have played week opposition from the teams in Championship 1, but they must be oozing confidence.

Your spot on.... is that the Carlsberg in the South stand bar ???

That's right ONO, although it's certainly better than Tommo's gold which they serve over the valley. I support your campaign for the extension of San Miguel to all beverage outlets within the ground.... A premium lager for premium fans....yes even South Standers!

In the case of Thomo's - foreign muck made in England every time. Now if it was Ossett brewery's Excelsior ....   ;)

Now thats a great idea!!! I am quite partial to a Yorkshire Blonde or two !!!

....  now where were we.. ... Ah yes...  hopefully beating York and getting a money spinner in the next round!!

A 'money-spinner' in the next round is probably crucial rather than a 'bonus'............. If we just use the home league game against Bradford compared to last season then we are probably something like £20,000 'down' on income year-on-year...........

(2000+ less at an average £10 per head) ................That means we need to beat York and get a draw in the next round that generates a 4000+ crowd to be back on an even keel............ So, any thoughts of mixing things up for the York game are dangerous: It needs to be the strongest, most committed team we can put out there and get the job done............Then hopefully away to Rhinos or Wigan in next round.

Has to be the King - SILVER KING!

Aye silver king would do. IF we win, looking at the likely winners, MOST would give us a decent shared gate. Toulouse away it is then.  :(

I don't think we will be 'mixing it up' for the York match.

With 15 Senior Players injured or suspended then we don't

have many to chose from.

Also we should remember that some of the players who do turn

out on Friday will be playing with pain killing injections

such as Scott Hale who still has a major problem with the

shoulder injury from last year and others who continue to

offer to play despite carrying various knocks.

As Therein73 says we need a cup run to even consider signing

any further players - or a few healthy donations!
