Could be interesting to see if any of their players end up in Super League. They have to get below the cap before they can start playing for points again - Semi Radradra is apparently one of the players likely to leave

Thats at least 2 million right there. At least. No way they have to shed all that.

Yes but when? NRL contracts usually start on 1 Nov, because the players generally all get 4 weeks holiday after the GF. Since this contract year is half over, if Watmough retires today that only saves $375K. And what if his deal included cap-exempt payments like car + marquee player + TPA? The saving might be even less.

 

Then, the retirement-causing injury supposedly happened in February. They would still, presumably have to pay him, and include on the cap, $187K, AND they will need to replace him in the Top 25 with a player on a minimum of $90K/year.

 

Not as straightforward as some scribes seem to think.
