At least that's what appeared to be mentioned in League Express. Anyone know anything and how would this work?

Wasn't there an article recently that said a Spanish team might join the French elite league??

To me it makes sense for Spain and Italy to target French Elite if/when the infrastructure & backing is there.

Would also help the Elite get a bit more exposure as well I guess. Would be nice to see some big city teams and International flavour to shake up the comp.

Not as far as Toronto!

Yeah but will this Spanish team have significant financial backing? Elite 1 is not a competition you make money from.

Is that official?

No I don't know anything about this but most of the clubs are based in Valencia and it's where RL was started in the country. Barcelona would make more sense geographically but there's not much activity there, if any.

Valencia, Palau and St. Esteve would mean plenty of Catalan derbies!

Fair point to Yipyee.

Valencia shares the flag colours and the language (there are little differences between Catalan and Valencian) BUT Valencia is not in Catalonia and if you dare say to someone from Valencia that he's Catalan, you're a dead man.

To the travel-enthousiasts on this forum : Valencia > Barcelona. Take it from a bi-national Catalan. Valencia is Barcelona little sister, true home of the authentic Paella and you don't get frowned upon if you don't speak Catalan (or Valencian).

Why is everyone's idea for expansion always putting a team in League 1? RL needs more than two leagues and League 1 can't be expected to carry RL development everywhere except Oceania. Anyway, how about walking before running? Unless there's a billionaire investor wanting to be involved.

Expansion for a Spanish team would be the Elite 1.

Top Elite 1 clubs should be able to play in the Challenge Cup. Top Elite1 clubs should be able to get licensed to Championship/SL.

I think a team in Barcelona/Girona in Elite 1 would be great a idea.

They don't care about League.

League in Spain is Valencia (11 teams!), Andalucia (7 teams) and Madrid (3 teams). There is only one team in Catalunya, at Castellar del Valles

Wasn't the Catalans v Warrington match played in girona??

In Barcelona, at Estadi Olimpic Lluis Companys, Montjuic.

Did Catalans ever build on the match at the Olympic Stadium?

Nope.

You know, Catalans at this point in time are focused on their independencia, how many trophies the Barça wins and sometimes a bit of basket.

No surprise there then, that's RL in a nutshell. Why bother taking a game to a new era if you aren't going to follow up on it?

I know that Valencia is not part of the modern Catalonian region but I thought it was part of historic Catalonia...my mistake!

Exactly this, I know Catalans have taken game regularly on the road but Barca would really be one worth persisting with IMO.
