  1. I have been told that the clubs that are forming the new Southern Premier Division have now been told who's in and who hasn't been accepted. Anybody heard anything? Can't find any reference to it in any of the league sites. (Or are they keeping it a secret until some big announcement event ???)
  2. On another forum, it said Workington travelling to Cornwall ( or Cornwall travelling to Workington) is a round trip of about 950 miles.
  3. Just seen this press release from RFL - Following a planned review of the Southern Conference League on the conclusion of its third full season, a decision has been made by the Southern RL Competition Management Group to move from its current two regional divisions (East & West) into one Southern Premier Division. As such, the management group are now accepting applications from interested clubs from across any of the current Southern Leagues. This includes all existing clubs. The competition would aim to provide playing opportunities that pit the best clubs from the regional leagues against each other on a weekly basis, at a higher intensity and level of rugby, and potentially, a longer playing season for those players who wish to play at a higher level. It is hoped that the proposals will also allow the regional leagues to flourish as new teams will be able to enter the competition without the fear of having to play the well-established teams. It will also reinvigorate those leagues as new teams will have an opportunity to win their competitions, which may have been dominated by the same teams over the last few years. On social media, I see that the biggest concern is that the RFL have not mentioned helping with travel, and as this league will mean clubs from Wales, Gloucester, Devon, London, Essex, Bedfordshire and Suffolk to name but a few travelling to each other over a much longer season, a few clubs are worried they won't be able to afford it. Whilst this is a good idea on paper, I wonder if the RFLhave thought it through re distances involved, cost and player pools over a longer season. Anyone heard anything more about this? Cheers.
  4. Here, here. But I have been told that due to lockdown, Hemel do not have any senior teams anymore and are only running juniors this season.
  5. Wow, didn't think it was that bad. No senior teams at Hemel now.
  6. Not sure what's happening at Hemel. One one hand Hemel pulled their 'A' team out of the East RL before the season started saying they couldn't raise a squad each week, and now just been told that Hemel Stags 1st team have called off their game at Eastern Rhinos in the Southern Conference League. On the other hand they are revamping their ground and doing a good job there by all accounts. Is today just a blip, anyone know? (Edit - Just to be fair, the RFL site says the game has been postponed and the Rhinos Facebook page says the game has been 'called off.')
  7. Couple of good ones on yesterday. On Tipping Point the question was " What genre of books did John Le Carre write? Were they about Farming, Spying or Sailing?" Contestant, "Well I've never heard of him, but he sounds posh, so I'll guess at Spies." And on Richard Osman's House of Games, question "Which US state is the Devils Tower in, that featured in Close Encounters of the Third Kind?" Contestant "Never heard of Devils Tower or that Close Encounters thing... is it a film or a book or something?"
  8. About 4" of snow has settled here in the village, not sure if it's near enough to London for 'horror of snow and ice' stories in the press though.
  9. Bradley Walsh: "Name the television naturalist the 'RichardAttenborosaurus' dinosaur is named after." Contestant: "Erm... pass." Anne Robinson: "In the Lord's Prayer, what word beginning with 'H' meaning 'blessed' comes before 'be thy name'?" Contestant: (quietly) "Howard." Anne: "Pardon?" Contestant: (louder) "Howard." Ben Shephard: "Between 1991 and 1999, Peter Schmeichel was the goalkeeper for which English football club?" Contestant: "Germany?" Ben: "What day is Christmas Day traditionally celebrated in the UK?" Contestant: "Wednesday." Alexander Armstrong: "Who was assassinated by Lee Harvey Oswald in Dallas?" Contestant: "JR."
  10. This is the bit that tickled me, had a quiet giggle ... "The Rafale-B's command ejection system is meant to fire both seats if one of the crew pulls the handle. A very confused pilot, however, was still sitting in his newly canopy-free Rafale wondering what the hell had just happened. He returned to land, conscious all the time that the seat could fire at any moment without warning."
