Great news for Hull FC - Expecting another big season from him and this should let him stay settled and continue improving.

You probably shouldn't be considered a great fullback in 2016 if your passing is ordinary. Shaul's is.

Yes but he doesn't miss one on one tackles! :drag:   Probably slightly more impoortant (slips into Welsh accent) for a Full Back I'd say!

They are both good players, but with different skill sets; I personally would prefer Lomax whilst acknowledging Shaul's qualities.

Got to agree with you and I'm sure Lomax will only get better with an injury free spell under his belt.

I'm looking forward to Shaul's link up with a sober Albert Kelly ;)

He absolutely will - he'll have learned a lot from the internationals, which will also help. Despite that missed tackle, I thought he had a good tournament and was very good against the Aussies creating space and troubling their defence at times.

If Kelly actually fires, Shaul will have another awesome season.

Makes you wonder why Lomax has only missed 9.6% of his tackles in Super League 2016 compared to Shaul's 13.5%! I think both Lomax and Shaul are good players, just don't think you can be considered the best in your position if you're lacking in such a key aspect of the role.

Unfortunately that stat includes falling off tackles with other players involved.  I watched him live in every game barring 1 last season and I can tell you he never missed a one on one.   Personally I like his try and try assist stats compared to Lomax - 14 + 7 for Shaul ---- 9 + 10 Lomax

And I admit to being as biased as you! ;)

If a fullback is relied on to make tackles the rest of the team has failed to do their job

Your point is?

Surely a Full Backs primary roll is the last line of defence and to sweep up kicks etc along with the wingers?

No his primary job is the first point of attack

They're not the first point. But do offer an extra pivot on attack

More and more halfbacks are converting to full back. I see Lomax as one of those

Wasn't always the case. They were always he last line of defence so always a good defender first

For me a full back is primarily an attacking weapon these days. They need to be positionally sound and good at fielding all kind of kicks too, one on one defence isn't a priority for me, more a bonus.

To me Lomax is the best all rounder we have, but Shaul is one of the best broken field runners anywhere in the world and if he's in space it's usually goodnight. He needs to developing his passing and how he links into the line to be truly top class, but he's good under a kick, a solid defender, very quick and absolutely lethal in open field. He'll do for me.

Don't give Bennett any more half backs to think about, he has enough on making a choice now!

Which decade are you referring to?

The one where Shaul ran over Sam Tomkins!
