Doncaster's campaign came to an end after suffering a heavy play-off semi-final defeat at Barrow Raiders who progress to next week's final.

Head coach Gary Thornton was able to recall Mason Tonks from injury and Iafeta Paleaaesina on dual registration from Hull FC.

The home side got off to a fine start when Jamie Dallimore made a great break, he found Oliver Wilkes who shipped a long pass out to Max Wiper who gave the hosts the lead inside five minutes.  Chris Hankinson added the conversion to give Barrow a 6-0 lead.

Doncaster almost hit back instantly, some great handling saw the ball head out to Louis Sheriff on the wing, he dived like Superman for the line however his effort was controversially ruled out for being in touch.

Barrow then extended their lead further.  David Foggin-Johnston knocked on 30 metres from the Doncaster line and the Raiders took full advantage when the ball was spread out wide brilliantly to Chris Fleming who scored in the corner.

Kyle Kesik hit back for the Dons though, Jordie Hedges spilled the ball backwards which caught out the Barrow defence, Tom Carr went through before offloading to the Dons captain to score.  Carr's conversion reduced the deficit to just four points.

Doncaster should have levelled up the scoring 11 minutes before the break.  Paleaaesina offloaded well to Jason Tali, he found Tonks in space but the second rower threw a forward pass to Louis Sheriff with the try line begging.

Just two minutes later there was controversy.  Dallimore grubbered into the in-goal area and the ball hit the referee Tom Crashley.   With the Dons unable to get to the ball due to the referee's positioning, Antony Bate grounded the ball and to the astonishment of the Dons the try was awarded.   Hankinson's goal gave Barrow a 16-6 lead.

Barrow extended their advantage just before the break after winning a penalty.  Hankinson successfully converted the goal from close range.

Half Time: Barrow Raiders 18-6 Doncaster

After the break it was one way traffic for the home side.  The hosts kept the ball alive with some great handling skills and offloads, before Dan Toal went over under the posts from close range, before Hankinson converted.

Things then went from bad to worse for Thornton's men.  Mark Castle spilled the ball backwards and Toal was the first to react, he picked up, weaved through the Dons defence before scoring under the posts.  Hankinson then kicked Barrow into a 30-6 lead.

On the hour mark Kesik was sent to the sin-bin for a high tackle and the hosts took full advantage of the extra man, with a long pass out wide to Fleming who went over for his second try.

Karl Ashall provided a moment of magic two minutes from time to extend Barrow's lead.  From close range he weaved his way through for Barrow's seventh try of the afternoon, before Hankinson converted.

Barrow then capped the win off in the dying seconds, Ashall made a brilliant break before offloading to Ryan Fieldhouse who scroeed under the posts.  Liam Harrison making his final appearance for Barrow at Craven Park converted the try to draw the curtain on 2016 for Doncaster.
