  1. Good game, brutal defence from both sides. Thought the call on the Briscoe disallowed try was absolutely awful though. Really key decision and he got it so wrong. Not to give the try was fine as Mellor clearly touched it but the Sts player (Bell?) Blatantly lost the ball into the Leigh man in the initial contact. Should have been leigh ball 30 yards or so out, instead Saints camped on our line again and that was the end of it. Very enjoyable match but a few key decisions at the back end felt more than a little unfair. Proud of the Leythers on that display. Congrats to Saints. A cracking game of RL all around.
  2. Holmes and Big Ben missing too. Good to see Kai back, hope he's not too rusty.
  3. I think a key thing here is to step back, stop going off one frame pictures (picked to suit either argument) or super slowed down footage. Watch it at full speed, as it happened. 12,000+ people watched it live and nobody was in any sort of uproar. The commentary team praised it as committed defence, and even though the Paasi one was right in front of the Saints fans there didn't seem to be any outrage during the game. Watch the clips, the whole clips in full speed as they happened live and it gives a clear picture to me. Desperate defending, putting your body on the line to try and win a massive game and lead your team to Wembley. MRP agrees and the witch hunt from Saints and Wellens is completely unwarranted.
  4. That's not what happened. I don't know where this narrative has come from. He takes him down by the legs in full flight. "Player makes legitimate initial contact with upper thigh of opponent who is moving forward." They've looked at it and that's the conclusion, exactly as it should be. He's not attacked the knee, he's not tackled him with his head. He just didn't. I'm sorry for Paasi getting injured but making out Asiata's committed some terrible assault to the knees with his head is just absurd. They've got this one 100% correct. It was a quality piece of defence and should be praised, not vilified.
  5. Think that wraps things up nicely. Absolutely hysterical reaction from some to determined defence chopping down 2 big lads by taking the legs. It's textbook stuff taught at U7's. Pathetic over reaction. Great defence.
  6. Been injured most of the season with a torn pec. Should be back in contention within the next few weeks. He had a great season last year for us so he'll be a big boost. Most of our injuries have been to our 2nd row. Wardle and Hughes have barely played, brought in Shorrocks who did so well wigan brought him back after just a few weeks, signed Halton to provide cover who got long term injured in his 1st game and then O'Donnell did that ridiculous tackle in the cup and got banned for 6 games. Our back row has been chopped and changed over and over so it will be good to get some options back once Hughes and Wardle are fit again.
  7. Great performance tonight, it's incredible to see the atmosphere building now down at the LSV. It's unrecognisable from the one sided championship games with 50-100 away fans gathered at the far end of the West stand most games last season. Credit to a big Wire following for adding to the noise and the intensity of the match. Amone and Mulhern did huge minutes and got a massive Wire pack on the back foot from the off. Ipape starting to cause some real havoc in opposition defences now and living up to the hype from last season. Not many Leigh fans had Reynolds down as 1st choice half in pre-season. Early injury for Joe Mellor gave him his chance to shine and he's seized it with both hands. Played out of his skin and a well deserved MoM tonight. Up the Leopards!
  8. I think that's just 16 points conceded in the last 4 matches from Leigh. Very very happy Leyther tonight!
  9. If Asiata is tied down for next season then that is great news. Next focus has to be to get Lam signed up ASAP for as long as we can manage. Those 2 are integral to everything we do well in attack. Asiata's distribution from 1st receiver is fantastic and Lammy gives us a bit of edge/spark and genuine pace. Wakey looked terrified of Lammy every time he touched the ball yesterday. Feel for the Wakey fans as it wasn't pretty, Leigh started slow and clunky yesterday making errors, giving away penalties and bombing a few chances. Wakey had plenty of possession in good territory in those 1st 30 mins to take advantage of but never really troubled the defence. Lino was clearly the only threat which made him easy to close down and nobody else looked like they had a clue how to break down a determined defence.
  10. Salford dangerous and got on a roll after 15 mins or so. Leigh couldn't get hold of the ball. Nothing wrong at all with the disallowed try for O'Donnell. Was a lovely piece of rugby, they showed it from 3 angles and it clearly wasn't forward. Very frustrating.
  11. Would go with just one change from the semi vs York. Same starting 13, but scrap the back on the bench and go with Ipape and 3 big forwards to take on a very decent Batley pack. 1. Aekins 2. Inu 3. McDonald 4. Chamberlain 5. Ferguson 6. Lam 7. Mellor 8. Sidlow 9. Smith 10. Amone 11. Wardle 12. Stone 13 Asiata Bench: Ipape O'Donnell Nakubuwai Ioane
  12. I assume Harry is referring to the 1st half from the post he quoted. Barrow looked a lot more lively than leigh at the start of the match and were 6 - 8 up at around 35 mins. 2 good tries in the final 5 of the half put us in a good position and we were 46 - 8 up by the hour mark. 1st half our completion must have been 30% or lower, aided by a strong Barrow defence. 2nd half we cut a lot of those mistakes out and pulled away. Fair play to Barrow though, based solely the games I've seen against Leigh they have been the best opposition in the Championship over both legs. Good attack, good kicking game and a lot of heart. Sammut is a slippery little sod and always poses a threat. Also, disagree with Harry on Mellor. I thought he was at the heart of everything we did well and would have been my MoM, just edging out Ipape who was fantastic once again.
  13. The pack of forwards Leigh have put together this season must be the best ever assembled in the Championship. The game plan is very simple, but very effective. Really hope Kai O'Donnell is ok, he was having a stormer up until the injury.
