  1. You're not wrong. England last played Australia in England at the London Stadium in the 2016 Four Nations. The previous meeting in *England* was in the 2011 Four Nations. We've gone from three games here on an Ashes tour every four years to a game once a decade.
  2. Looks like two other clubs, both currently in SL, both within the space of 4 days.
  3. In terms of atmosphere, for me as a Widnes fan, beating Australia in 1978. As a small child, I watched the whole game from pitchside over the boundary wall, as the crowd had spilled over from the terraces. Far more people in the ground than the official attendance. Must've been incredibly intimidating for the visitors playing in such conditions. Obviously Widnes beating Wigan at Naughton Park to win the league in 1989, and Widnes beating Canberra at Old Trafford. In terms of an epic struggle, hard to see past Wigan vs Manly in 1987 as mentioned above. Also GB's 8-4 win against Australia at Wembley in the first test in 1994 after Shaun Edwards was sent off. My greatest memory from playing was probably not objectively a great game. We played a cup game in snowy, icy conditions at Runcorn and won by one try to nil, but it was one of those games where the whole team seemed to rise to the occasion and tackle their hearts out. Out of hundreds of games, it's the one that really sticks in my mind.
  4. Various news stories have included claims from the players that when they had spoken to the RFL, they had been told that Rovers were disputing the amounts owed and that the RFL would only act if Rovers admit they are at fault. As players' contracts are supposed to be registered with the RFL, I wonder whether some of the problem is with things that are non-contractual that might not have formed part of the RFL registered contract, which is why the public stories have been over things like receipts from testimonial games, payments to agents, relocation expenses and so on.
  5. If you deduct money from an employee's wages for pension contributions, it's legally required to be in the pension by the 22nd of the following month. The pension fund has a legal duty to report this to the pensions regulator if 90 days late. The Pensions Regulator can issue fines for late payments or even for failing to respond promptly to the Pension ombudsman.
  6. The next SL game on BBC is Catalan v St. Helens on BBC 3 on 6th April AFAIK. None of the easter games.
  7. Until Good Friday, anyway. No home games for Widnes in April.
  8. Keighley v Cornwall 971 Doncaster v York 1463 Widnes v Barrow 1758
  9. Skolars would be my preference. This is rugby league though. We'll have decided 14 clubs in SL or something before 2026 comes around.
  10. Decades of compounding. (And of course, owning an expensive house without a mortgage makes you 'wealthy' in asset terms but doesn't necessarily give you an income to pay your £20 to watch Dewsbury or whoever.)
  11. One of my favourite bands, never seen them live. Kinda impressive that I reckon the best 'rock' track of last few years was released by some sixty-something women. Hoping to go to the Leeds gig, but there's a good chance I won't be in the UK that week. Was supposed to see Irish fiddle/accordion player Sharon Shannon in Masham last month, but she cancelled due to illness. Was supposed to see Urban Folk Quartet over in Swaledale last week, but they cancelled due to illness, their banjo player Dan Walsh did a very good solo gig instead. English folk band Leveret up next for me. Piece Hall in Halifax has a bit of an all-star line-up this year?
  12. I could certainly get used to it, in rugby league and cricket at least
  13. Yes, would be madness to add an NCL club from a place that already has a pro club in the area - and I think that is all of the current members.
  14. The over-65s own over 90% of UK wealth. Obviously there's a huge inequality in how that wealth is spread out and plenty of pensioners who are not very well off at all, but overall pensioners are by.far the richest group in society.
