Please help London Skolars

Recommended Posts

London Skolars are asking for donations to help complete their new club house. Details here: https://www.gofundme.com/skolarsclubhouse?utm_medium=wdgt

I realise in terms of worthy causes somewhere for me to have a beer or two before a game* is not the most pressing but if anyone can spare a few quid that would be great. Skolars are in their 22nd year now and New River will be our base for at least the next twenty years given RL firm foundations in north west and east London.

* the room will, to be fair, used for other activities.

to me this is one of the most important developments in rugby league outside the heartlands in a long time. for once we have a club that has got a permanent asset that is theirs only that they can open 7 days a week if needed and should help cement the clubs finances for the long term,

its also massively important to build the minis and juniors at the club. teams from U7s to 17s. can now mix with first team players at games and at training sessions, watching internationals and so on.

if you can help pls do

IM2 - Where will the new clubhouse be at the New River? Sounds like a great idea.

It will, I think, be on the second floor of the stand.

Is it a take over of that pub down the road with the same name?

Sadly not - they are flats now. Be great to own a pub though.

It is a bit rich begging on the forum. After being a season ticket holder for 10 years they lost my support this season when they announced the original fixture list with home games on a Saturday starting at 6pm. Only after the season began did I realised someone had seen sense and moved them back to 3pm. It was too late then for me. After putting up with extremely poor facilities last season, it seems it is not much better now (according to the begging post).

They really need to get themselves in order fast. No wonder attendances are so poor.

sorry you feel like that. be good to get you back on side. i am sure i could get the club to give you a couple of free tickets.

the new facilities i think will give us some of the best in the league and more importantly a way to drastically increase revenues.

its hard work running a club at this level. the league itself doesn't generate enough to support activities. cap cha and fnl help.

sorry you feel that way. come to the toulouse game and you will see all the hard work

Hi

The move to 6pm was a mistake (although resulting from the New River owners) and to be fair to the club they listened to fans and moved to 3pm (although I agree it wasn't well communicated). I will say things are getting much better on and off the field. In fact you are missing the best season for a fair few years so hope you can get along again soon. The club has lost, I reckon a 100 fans with the move to Enfield and the lack of a club house but things are moving very much in the right direction again. I should point out I posted the link to the appeal and have nothing to do with the club - I am just a fan.

If you come to the Toulouse game I will buy you a beer!

the union side have their own bar in the top right side of the building. the left side bar is ours and all the downstairs.

whats wrong with a lease. suspect most grounds and stadiums are leased or on leased land

it really is massive for the club to have a facility 100% for our own use and a valuable source of revenues

The problem is not the lease itself but the term of it. So Skolars are investing all this into a facility they don't own and may not have rights to in 20 years time? Given the investment, the least I would want is a stakeholder position to control the asset and ultimately the destiny

Leaseholders shouldn't have to fund improvements to their facility. Given the investment, the least I would want is a stakeholder position to control the asset and ultimately the destiny
