Super 8's marketing

Now that the fixtures are out it would be good to here what the club are doing to promote these 4 games.

I for one think if we can go unbeaten at home and a good crowd would certainly help that. If we have a decent run, who knows we may end up in a final.

Let's hope the club think outside the box for these fixtures and try and get a few of the "floating" fans back.

I think with the kids on their school hols maybe a free entry for kids with a paying adult would be a start. As a parent I know kids are already bored, so this is something for them to do. As long as it's publicised well locally there's nowt to lose IMO.

Anyone else any ideas?

Agreed! The club basically does nothing with regard to marketing! Look at the World Cup there was banners on every major road junction, flyers in every shop! Radio adverts and to be fair it worked! Let's hype it up. I would like to see season cards (not tickets) like loyalty cards and for certain games the club could run promotions like bring a friend n both get in for half price, that way you'll double the crowd but still make the same money plus increase bar turnover as well as generating interest with new fans!

Double edged sword in my view. The RLWC whilst well advertised was incredibly cheap and a better standard.

If the club paid for marketing materials (id expect a lot of the RLWC ones would require planning permission due to their location) and the gate didn't go up they're out of pocket and money maybe too tight to take the risk. Remember the marketing for the RLWC will have come from a central budget and if be amazed if the club can afford to do it.

Secondly, only a team that wins consistently will bring back floating fans.

Thirdly, it would be virtually impossible to market Batley or Donny as they don't capture the imagination. Floaters would look to the other results against Fev and not bother so it only really gives the Haven game that's marketable so I'd expect to see something for that game but not for the others.

Fourthly to have cards (like they do at premiership clubs) you'd have to have the technology to prevent them being passed around and the system abused and the club wouldn't have the funds to install it.

Let's remember the bottom line was that the RLWC was cheap (unlike the union one which sells itself) which gave a false opinion of interest - you don't see many new converts at DP or anywhere else in the country id imagine.

With all the contacts the club has with local printing firms surly they could do a deal for banners and posters ect, also Facebook,  twitter and other social media outlets are all FREE so the club could do a lot of advertising for a very small outlay, its just down to someone being bothered to do it,

That's as maybe but what follow-up was there to the World Cup?    We are still waiting for the publishing of the report of the Cumbria Review which was started in March 2014 and which the clubs have had since January 2015.

It's irrelevant what the follow up was if people thought the game was so fantastic attendances would've gone up.

And for Wigan to attempt a poor mans Saracens event by playing at the Den is just embarrassing.

The report in my view is yet another example of the RFL throwing money away on a pointless exercise.

Your very negative Geordie, the fan base is there but requires work to raise attendances which the club does not do enough of. Surely the club employes people full time what are their job roles? Could marketing not be done by them? The social media side has improved but is still lacking. I'm 100% certain that given the right person driving the marketing that the club could get 1200/1500 attendances

Get real. How many clubs that aren't recently out of SL or have aspirations of going into SL get those kind of gates?!

It's chicken and egg. You can't have a good team without bigger gates and more revenue and you can't get big crowds without a winning team.

The only answer would be someone putting in a big sum of money as a one off to enable us to compete. That's the only way you'd get 1500/2000.

I'm not negative I'm a realist but I suppose if u don't try u don't get. I'm still of the opinion that only the Haven game is really marketable...but I only have a marketing degree so what would I know.

I said 1200/1500, and do we not have aspirations of making SL 1day?? There's no point in running the club if we do not! Top coach... Players like Sammut signing shows ambition to me! But the club lacks the infrastructure to move any further than where it's at now.

The new funding gap makes that virtually impossible without an injection of cash to catapult you up there.

Again, not being negative just realistic. How can a team with £150k of funding or whatever it is compete with one that gets £450k.

It's what's known as a glass ceiling I'm afraid.

I know what your saying Geordie but something's got to give, because the club can't continue with the poor gates were getting at the moment. By the time wages, running costs, Tax etc are taken out of the 650-750 attendances were struggling. There's a whole generation that seems to be missing from DP and were in danger of losing the next generation too. I know the directors work hard and also have jobs themselves so probably havnt got a lot of time to do much. Also there's probably very little to spend on promotion of games. However, whatever they can do that's above and beyond what we normally do is worth a try in my eyes.

I agree 100% but it's not just DP they're missing from. It's the same for any sport across west Cumbria and even over here in the North East.

Take Whitehaven, they're the ONLY pro sport in their town where we have the reds and the comets and they get similar gates to ours.

There's a number of reasons for it but I just don't think there's the same level of interest as years gone by. That's not just Town, that's every sport everywhere.

And it's a bit artificial because a fair few them aren't really bothered and end up playing around . How you really grow the crowd base , that's the thing . Getting 1000 shouldn't be hard round here but it's proving insurmountable !

only way you will get an increased crowd is if an investor came in and pumped some money into the club bringing in some quality signings. Unfortunately investors don't grow on trees. Kid for a quid should be tried more often as it will get some kids hooked long term.
