Batley game

As you will be aware, it is a very important game for us next week.

After the way you played at the Mount earlier this year, it should be a cracking game.

There should be a very good following coming over for the match.

Any tip for parking, pubs etc?

Cheers, Morley.

Popular pub right outside the ground is the Little B that has food, sports etc and has a beer garden front and back. Large car park at the rear too though there is plenty of on street parking close to the ground (no driving on Heywood road itself). There are a couple of other pubs towards the Brooklands Metro station. Heywood Road is a great ground with two bars inside the ground (one downstairs and one upstairs) with views of the ground. Hopefully you will enjoy the trip. I just wish you did not need the points as much as we do!

...and watch the Army game...

We used to watch The Army Game on TV way back in the late '50s. Anyone else? If you do, you're showing your age (like me).

I think its all about form right now - we are not playing consistently enough to win on a regular basis - could have won at Oldham and Dewsbury, not to mention Workington or Halifax at home. Looks like Workington are in form, Whitehaven not so, Sheffield lose at home twice but win away at London, Oldham have won away at Sheffield and of course beat us and Dewsbury have lost quite a few but beat us last week.

I am sure Duffy knows what is required - I hope the team can meet the challenges ahead.

A few coach loads coming over for what is our most important game in over 20 years - to make the qualifiers will be a massive achievement and probably set us up for the next decade financially!

So if you guys can just roll over and let us win it would be greatly appreciated, I dont think my nerves could quite handle a close game and please no repeat of the performance you put in at the Mount!

Looking forard to what should be a good game and a cracking party atmosphere from our lot - fingers crossed!

What we're dealing with here is a complete lack of respect for the law

Our lads have got a point to prove after the last few weeks and I expect a close game at weekend. A win for the Lions could also be massively important in order to secure Championship rugby for 2017 and so this game holds just as much for both teams.

Batley have had a wonderful season and I'd personally love to see them in the middle 8s...but not if that involves beating the Lions on Sunday. Here's to a good game, one in the spirit of RL.

We were beaten today by a well drilled Batley side - they out wrestled us in pack, three men in the tackle and we struggled to contain Batley's pack. - call me old fashioned by why have we adopted the tackling style with two tacklers wrestling and the 3rd coming in to try and put the man to ground. For me too often we did not put the man to ground or when we did he wasn't on his back so could get up quickly and play the ball. Why we cannot have a man tacking around the legs as the primary tackler then have support from a 2nd and 3rd man I do not know - does anyone do tackling practice that involves tackling around the legs ? I am not a fan of union, but they always tackle around the legs as they want the player on the ground.

So we started well, then gave away several penalty all of which lead to Batley tries..............second half we simply pressed the panic button and gifted most of the tries to Batley. Some good individual performances again today - but as team, sorry just  not there yet.

I guess Workington did us a favour today - but we need to hit a patch of form and quickly as we cannot slip up from now on.

Good luck to Batley in the Super 8 competition - honestly I cannot see them beating any of the Super League clubs but just finishing in the top four has guaranteed the club  £300K, so well done for that.

Got to say great day out today. You're 2 and 7 are absolute class I was impressed by 7 at the bash weekend and he had another stormer today playing behind a beaten pack. Good luck for the 8s, I've always enjoyed my visits to Swinton, even in the days when we used to get regularly battered at station road all those years ago, I really hope you go well and stay well clear of the drop.

Macauley Hallett is an outstanding young centre. I'd love to see him at Batley.

What I'm looking for is someone who can contribute to what England has given to the world: culture, sophistication, genius. A little bit more than an 'ot dog, know what I mean?

Thanks Dogdaddy. You sound like you're from the 'good old days' ('60s) when we would give teams like you a good hammering. Back then Batley played in cherry-and-white hoops like Leigh and Wigan.

Nice ground and a good chat with a couple of Swinton fans on the way in. I thought Swinton played with some style but were let down with indiscipline resulting in two yellow cards. Good luck in the Plate games.

Shocking in the halfbacks and at 9 . No quality at all at 6 and 7 . Nicholson has been a big miss at 9 . Barlow is not the answer in this position . Penalty count awful. Whose leading on the pitch ?

funny how we all see games differently, I thought the lad at 7 looked dangerous everytime he had the ball in hand, he took the line on and drew his man extremely well.

I agree with Dogfather - Beharell is a dangerious player but hasn't in my opinion be used to best effect this season as he has been put in at hooker - when he should be running out wide, he does have a tendency to throw forward passes but in the modern game how many refs call play back.

Very negative comments there. I agree Barlow is not a hooker but Coach Duffy went again for size on the bench. If it hadn't have been for the HBs and Barlow then it would have been NIL. First try involved slik handling from 6, 7 and 1 to put Robinson in. Barlow then on an individual effort. 6 then had a line bust, almost being decapitated, to put Thornley in untouched for the third. Then an inside ball from 6 put 1 through the gap to find 7 to finish the move off and score. Discipline has been a problem over the last few weeks but I do think the ref was too eager on the team warning and hence 2 sin bins that didn't help. There are some very experienced players on the team and you would like to think they take on the leadership. I thought 18 was out of his depth though and looked RL naive at this level, we missed Marshall in that jersey. At the end of it all, Batley had a lot more to gain (£200k+) with the win than us, and alot more to lose. That alone was motivation for them. Regardless of result we were always going to be in the Shield. They needed that win, and other results, to hit the middle 8s and big money. Wouldn't surprise me if Batley players were offered a special bonus to beat us. That said I am confident of going well in the Shield with the draw of fixtures and feeling upbeat about remaining in the Championship.

Barlow and discipline mmmmm tricky one.

Sam eventually calmed down. Josh possibly when he grows up.

3rd man in grabs and reaching over tackles is never pretty
