The Leigh club said.......................

"Following a lot of hard work building up our presence on social media in 2012 we have at last a brilliant platform to reengage with those Leigh supporters who have lost touch with the club and those also who have decided to pursue Super League games even it means following other clubs!

We saw from last seasons game with Leeds Rhinos that those dormant supporters are still there and we know from feedback we received at the time, that they thoroughly enjoyed the experience and were surprised with both the facilities and atmosphere of Leigh Sports Village.

Last Season, the 'Fetchbob' campaign worked for us - our supporters introduced friends and family to the club and many stayed for the full season and will be joining us again this year. The initiative assisted us during a difficult economic period and thankfully strengthened our core support.

'Fetchbob' will of course remain for the 2013 season, at the same time however, we will be be putting a great deal of effort into communicating with those past supporters (Who are still Leythers) to return to our games and to assist in helping us to grow the club further!"

How do people see this? The club have fluctuated between 1500 to 3000 speccies for 18 years now 2011 attracting 2248 roughly half way between, no great losses???

Are there fans who have switched in any great number? Are fans staying away (winning Rugby's been on the agenda for several years) why did the club drop by over 500 fans from last year to this (Ref: Gillette) etc.

It's an important thing for the club obviously revenue wise, but that IMHO stupid 2,500 criteria for SL entry was heavily short this last year. Any thoughts (apart from how to have a go at each other :( )??

Leigh took a few big decisions last year in moving some games away from the sunday 3pm slot to Friday nights after telling fans games would be on Sunday, putting up ST's by 30% and match day by 15%, we also lost our 'only' derby v Widnes. The big games v Fax, Fev were not played on the Sunday and IMO crowds suffered. Leigh also marketed a corporate club and I believe its numbers are not shown in the crowd figures.
The policy seemed to be focus on income and not gates, which in our situation at the time wasn't necessarily a bad one as we posted a profit and paid off debts by the rfl money going direct to HMRC. This season we have reverted back to Sunday 3pm when we have the choice and will be in receipt of the RFL funding.

Its a line worth taking, trying to bring back lapsed fans as well as trying to bring in new younger ones. The Sunday move sounds like a good one, too. It's a matter of how good the club is at selling the idea, getting the story out there. Looking forward to jmeasuring the effect of all this come season's end.

Think Leigh will see an increase this season especially playing on a Sunday allows away fans to get there. It took me three hours last year from Fev to get there due to traffic jams and bad weather

Good luck to them for changing it just hope more home fans like Sunday so they see the increase
