Hardaker humbled by McNamara text message

Leeds Rhinos star Zak Hardaker admits he was “humbled” to receive a text message from the England coach Steve McNamara congratulating him on his recent form.

Hardaker has been in sensational form for the Rhinos in 2015, with a debate raging over whether Hardaker should overtake Sam Tomkins as the country’s first choice full-back for the New Zealand series later this year.

And Hardaker admitted it was great to hear from the England coach, and says he’s keen to keep on improving as the weeks go on.

“It’s nice to know he’s watching,” the full-back told BBC Radio Leeds.

“To get a message from him last week was really nice and quite humbling. I’ll have to keep pulling my finger out and performing.

“Apart from that, he doesn’t send texts out or get in touch, which is good because he just lets you play your game and it’s about club rugby.”
