Hull FC back on top after edging Saints

Hull FC reclaimed their position at the summit of Super League following a 32-24 victory over St Helens.

Lee Radford’s side went 12-0 ahead early on as Gareth Ellis and Mahe Fonua scored, but Adam Swift and Jonny Lomax replied for Saints to make the score 12-12 at half-time.

An Atelea Vea try put Saints ahead for the first time, but a Marc Sneyd penalty and Carlos Tuimavave score gave Hull the lead once more. A Scott Taylor try followed to put a cushion between the teams, but when Jack Ashworth scored for Saints to make it 26-24, the Airlie Birds were worried.

But they stayed on top and secured victory in the final minutes through Danny Washbrook.

A full-page report and reaction will be in Monday’s League Express.
