Just watching the Scotland v France union game and seen a billboard advert for "Rugby League's Wacky Magic Weekend".

What the flying **** is that all about? Surely the worst advert for our game ever that makes the Magic Weekend seem like a circus clown act. Absolutely pathetic and whoever came up with that as an advert deserves to be publicly flogged, never mind sacked.

(end of the stoppage 69 mins, 26 seconds or so in the game, if you're sad enough to watch the game)

We're all wacky we are!

It was very noticeable.

A+ for the advert and its location.

Z- for wacky.

Dear god....

With the best, thats a good bit of PR, though I would say the Bedford team, theres, like, you know, 13 blokes who can get together at the weekend to have a game together, which doesnt point to expansion of the game. Point, yeah go on!

Nothing to do wth me wink.gif

Good to see the RFL not being scared to promote our events at this event and hopefully they will continue the effort at the other events that are played at MUrryfield, however I hope the wacky part as it makes our sport a bit of a joke.

Wacky is one of the worst words that could possibly be used and i'm not joking when I say that whoever came up with it should be sacked.

According to google: Wacky:

1) cockamamie: ludicrous, foolish; "gave me a cockamamie reason for not going"; "wore a goofy hat"; "a silly idea"
balmy: informal or slang terms for mentally irregular; "it used to drive my husband balmy"
wackily - daftly: in a mildly insane manner; "the old lady is beginning to behave quite dottily"

Unless the RFL are intending to convey that the Murrayfield Magic weekend is ludicrous and foolish then I suggest the advertisement is changed. I can't emphasise just how stupid the wording is in that avert.

WTF are they playing at.

Great idea, great place to advertise, as for the execution, the excutioner should be excecuted.

I can't think of any excuse for the advert that makes any sense. I was wondering whether it was provided by free the Scottish RU as a "favour".

Could it not be that the owners of Murryfield are in charge of the local adverts.I seem to remember thats one of the reasons they left MS because promises where broken on selling the game locally.

I'll give the Scottish RU credit there, they've shown that they're very good at selling tickets and promoting the game. Murrayfield is owned by the Scottish RU.

maybe it's a colloquial scottish term and "wacky" just means "off your face on pills and special brew", in a quirky attempt to get the locals to buy a ticket

Looking at the advert in the League Express this morning, it seems to be the theme for this year, with the picture of the club mascots in a wacky races style car race.

Not particularly my cup of tea, but at least there seems to be a little effort with the promotion at the moment, rather than just photos of the players looking menacing which have been used for the past few years.

The fact that we had an advert at the Six Nations game is very positive, and the fact that they are using TV adverts for the WCC is great. Some of the ideas will be a hit and some will be poor, unfortunately that is marketing.

Oh FFS... just looked at it myself. Even the "menacing player" look was substantially better than that. It looks like an advert for "It's a Knock-out"

I think this kind of campaign may have been good for things like youth clubs, schools, junior teams etc, but not to cover all the promotion for the event.

'Wacky' is the kind of word that unfunny people use to describe themselves. See also 'zany'.

"Journalists are meant to be neutral, for God's sake." - Stephen 'Wiggy' Jones

"Perhaps it would be better that future criticism of sports be made on the narrow basis of what is being discussed, without reference to other sports, unless those sports offer a solution to the problem in hand." - Brian 'Pigface' Moore

"What happens in rugby union? A player takes the ball, moves forward a little and gets tackled. A whole load of players then roll about on the ground. Pheep! The referee gives a penalty." - Simon Barnes
