McDermott pours cold water on Aiton rumours

Leeds Rhinos coach Brian McDermott has categorically ruled out the chance of Paul Aiton making a shock return for Leeds in Saturday’s Grand Final.

Rumours had been growing that Aiton, who hasn’t played since the start of August following a broken arm, could be fit to feature for Leeds in their match against Wigan at Old Trafford on Saturday.

McDermott has named youngster Jordan Lilley on the bench for Rhinos’ last two games but not used him, but he quickly confirmed that Aiton will not be available.

When asked if the Catalans-bound Aiton could feature, McDermott said: “No. It’s a good rumour that one, but no.”

McDermott said that there were “no real dramas” in camp about fresh injuries too, saying he has nothing new to worry about ahead of Saturday.

Questioned on how his side pulled up after the semi-final, he said: “Good. We’re ready for it, there’s no real dramas.”
