Workington hooker facing lengthy ban from RFL

Workington hooker Karl Olstrom is facing the possibility of a lengthy ban after being accused of physically assaulting a referee.

The 24-year-old has been charged with a grade F offence, which carries a suspension of at least eight matches, the Rugby Football League announced.

He will appear in front of a Rugby Football League independent disciplinary tribunal next Tuesday.

The offence is alleged to have taken place in the 27th minute of Workington’s 62-0 defeat at Sheffield Eagles on Sunday which condemned Workington to relegation from the Kingstone Press Championship.

Olstrom, who is accused of running into referee Jon Roberts and pushing him over, missed his club’s opening two matches of the Super 8s after being sent off for striking in the derby against Whitehaven in July.
