Catalans duo join Sheffield Eagles

Sheffield Eagles have signed Stan Robin and Thibaut Margalet from Catalans Dragons  until the end of the 2016 season.

Both players have struggled to establish themselves in the Dragons team this year and have been playing for the club’s reserve grade.

Robin has made one appearance for the Dragons this season, playing in the club’s 40-0 victory over Hull KR in April. The halfback, 25, made nine appearances in 2015.

23-year-old prop Margalet played in last weekend’s top of the table clash against Warrington, but that was his first appearance of the year.

Neither player will be available for Friday’s clash with Featherstone as the pair will arrive in the country on the same day.

“It’s great to secure the services of Stan and Thibaut until the end of the season,” said Mark Aston

“Stan is a well-developed and experienced halfback but he’s struggled to gain a place in the Dragons side with the likes of Richie Myler, Todd Carney and Thomas Bosc ahead of him.”

“Thibaut is great, young prop, huge and physical and has a bright future in the sport but again, with Catalan performing so well in the Super League, he has struggled to get a place in the starting squad.”

“I’d like to thank Catalan for their assistance with these signings and we look forward to welcoming them to the club later this week.”

It takes Sheffield’s tally of signings to three in the space of a week, having signed Nathan Chappell ahead of Friday’s fixture against top-four chasing Featherstone. It follows the departure of long-serving forward and former captain Mitch Stringer, who was allowed to leave the club to join Dewsbury.
