  1. Absolutely bizarre, wasn't there a anti-vax letter printed last year also? I'm a hypocrite though, I've been getting nonsense printed in the paper for years under my pen name G. Schofield.

  2. I think Shropshire really means build it up and have Elite 1 equal as the Championship. Rather than the other way round. Question is how then? It goes without saying that forcing Toulouse to pay for competitors to travel is scandalous. It is small minded and insular. It is deeply noncompetitive to the point of being rigged. It is prejudiced against French clubs and clearly a huge deterrent to any further continental team joining SL/Championship

  3. Cramlington Rockets get a £175,000 World Cup grant to refurbish and get ownership of their own pavilion. It's great to see World Cup funding being used to provide infrastructure and proper roots like this: The tournament’s CreatedBy grant funding has been the catalyst for projects to secure additional funding leading to an overall financial investment of over £21 million, delivered in partnership with the RFL. Cramlington Rockets have received £175,000 from RLWC2021 and the funding will help the club refurbish the Eastfield Community Pavilion, which has been transferred to the club by the local authority. When completed, the developments will provide young rugby league players with a fully functioning clubhouse, giving the club a proper home, creating more opportunities for local people to get involved in rugby league and enabling Cramlington Rockets to host events that benefit the wider community. https://www.rlwc2021.com/article/423/cramlington-rockets-receive-£175,000-rugby-league-world-cup-grant

  4. When it’s clearly bigoted, unwelcome in this age and offensive, it’s not something that should be published. Demeaning the achievements of others based upon their sex is pretty disgraceful and has nothing to do with “cancel culture”.

  5. Firstly, an utterly outdated and ridiculous letter but why would you put that to print?

  6. Letting Toulouse get relegated and replaced by a suburb of Wakefield or Wigan would be an extra of pure lunacy

  9. Are you going to form the LDL to rival the WDL? I would have been perfectly happy for Leeds to win the game without controversy, the game was a terrific contest and deserved an uncontroversial finish. But sadly, we didn't get that, Myler cheated, Jack Smith fell for it, and Leeds end up winning. That's not how I want to see a RL game finish.

  10. Freedom of Speech. People should be allowed to express views that others disagree with. Counter it with well constructed and logical arguments. A refusal to allow such views is Communism/Fascism. Co-incidentaly, both of the left

  11. And that opinion is allowed to be rightly ridiculed for the nonsense that it is. Its ironic that you bemoan 'cancel culture', when that is literally what that dribble is advocating towards women in the game. LE have surely just printed it got get a few cheap clicks, and it seems to have worked.

  13. Yes, if there's one thing this forum is unanimously agreed on it is the quality and accuracy of the opinions of the Sky commentary teams.

  14. I watched the replay very carefully, Myler pushed his legs up intentionally to end up in the position he did, Hill did no lifting whatsoever.

  15. Of course the ironic thing in this whole conversation is that the first person wanting something cancelled was the guy writing the letter. He wanted women Rugby League players recognised in the Hero's section to be cancelled.
    5 points
  16. The writer doesn't follow women's rugby league. He has no idea who the female player is. Do you? Do you know the level of ability of the player? Do you only judge hero's by their ability? Not their guts, or attitude, leadership, courage, conviction, determination, perseverance? Based on your post I can confidently say that you are not a hero.

  17. The old chap is just entitled to have his opinion published as you or i. Just because it differs to your view doesnt mean it shouldn't be published. I hope cancel culture hasnt spread to these forums now

  18. It's the bit that appeals to me. North West Yorks London France Wales Cumbria South (non-London, maybe Cornwall) Scotland If they don't work, move them. Far easier than re-launchibg 100 year old clubs.

  21. My answers: 1. Changing structure isn’t going to solve any problems or drive up interest. 2. Game rife with self interest and a lack of accountability at the governance level. 3. Change governance structure - independent commission. 4. Focus on internationals and developing France; exemption for any international club side from P&R (if retained). 5. Must look at redevelopment of scholarship system to reduce the impact on community rugby. 6. Interested in more women’s rugby and the possibility of 9s. 7. Scrap loop fixtures, no to Origin and no to 10x2s.

  22. There will obviously be discussion around the Myler incident but it shouldn't distract from what was an absorbing game, brilliant atmosphere (on TV anyway) and good presentation by Sky. Watching tonight felt like the product that the sport aspires to be consistently. FWIW, I thought Huddersfield had enough territory and numerical superiority to win the game without any excuses and Leeds deserved it in the end for how game they were when Huddersfield were dominant.

  23. nah, not having that. Last thing we want is the sport turning into football with players play acting for penalties. It needs stamping out ASAP.
    4 points
  24. Difficult one that. Yes, Myler put his arsenal up and head down but he didn't force Hill to pick him up and drop him. A penalty to Leeds amd get on with the game would have been my call.

  26. It's lost £40m, crowds are down, has not increased participation or attendance at other matches, and halved its TV audience in a season. Other than that - chief - you're spot on.

  27. This totally sucks and makes my blood boil, Toulouse should be paying ZERO if clubs cannot afford a simple 2 trips to France every year they really should not be in business. Paul

  28. I increasingly believe the SL should be separated from the Champs/L1 on a straight pro/semi-pro split. Hand out licences if you must. Dabble with expansion if you must. But don't neglect the semi-pro clubs who need an independent, and above all, fair competition with a tangible reward. Why can't the Champs/L1 emulate the NCL - six different winners in the last six completed seasons, and I don't see anyone from West Hull bemoaning that the fact that their imminent title victory is tarnished by not being able to earn promotion to mix with the might of Cornwall and West Wales next season. Develop and brand the semi-pro second-tier as a stand-alone entity, and let the SL, and any aspirations thereof, look after itself.

  29. the RFL used to pay League 1 central funding AND travel expenses. Not only have they slashed central funding but have also stopped travel expenses which clubs now have to find from elsewhere. I'm amazed that a League 1 team hasn't folded this year.

  30. Would you also kick Castleford out and put London Broncos in?

  31. 2x10 would be the end of the sport. Totally meaninglesd serving a few rich clubs only

  32. The biggest affect to L1 clubs finances was the whopping great 65% cut to central funding!

  33. Done mine. My answers to the questions above were - 1) No - not enough variety in the fixtures. 2) 7s - I've seen enough 9s and didn't find it differed sufficiently from 13 aside to make it a different game. 3) No. I also emphasised that I would like to be a fairer share of income throughout the 3 tiers and that cutting off the lower league would reduce my interest. And also that maintaining promotion and relegation is essential for lower league fanbases. We've all got to dream haven't we!

  34. Whatever structure is landed on, there'll be a valid argument against it, because there is no such thing as the perfect structure. If the sport could identify what problems it was trying to solve, or what it was trying to achieve, they'd have a better chance.

  35. Absolutely no to 10x10 I seriously would just consider walking away from the game if this happened. I want 14 team home away. Franchise’s for 4 years. I also want and end to constantly tinkering with the rules gimmicks type rules, any changes should be considered and agreed across the board and trialled in reserve grade games. No one that i know wants 10x10 or loop fixtures. I suspect IMG know this and want to hammer home to Super league RFL that your audience doesn’t want this.

  36. Fairly apparent they have no interest in clubs outside SL or the two tens. Not one question about those clubs who are unlikely to be part of that top level and what structure people want to see at that level.

  37. Really great to here you enjoyed the trip so much. Cornwall RL have done a fantastic job in such a short period of time. Yesterday there was a number of local businesses and Cornish corporate people around. Just as important as the very vocal crowd of 1200. There is so much potential in Cornwall for RL. Especially with so little other competition on the live sporting front. We have taken a few drubbings, but that is absolutely true of any new team with very little time to prep, not forgetting the lack of pre-season. Relationships are being built with local communities and other RU clubs too. At half-time, seeing Penryn RU juniors playing a game of tag rugby league was really great to see. From a fan perspective, Penryn RU have been fantastic this year. The world-cup trophy tour in just topped off a really successful debut year off. Never did I think I would ever see RLWC trophies in a very busy farmers market in Truro city centre. Moreover, it was actively engaging with by a steady stream of really interested people actively seeking out more information. Initiatives like this are engaging people and will only help to grow the awareness of RL and sell tickets at Cornwall RL. BBC Cornwall covering the games, with nothing other than amateur cricket to compete with has been superb too. The beginnings of something really special are starting to take shape. It's rightly being done slowly and carefully, trying to balance risk vs. reward. Yes, other things will need to develop and building the pyramid to support the professional game in Cornwall is essential in the med-longer term. But for the moment, let's take a moment to just say a bloody good job for year one!

  38. It's not Myler's responsibility to not trick the referee. It's the responsibility of the referee to not be tricked, and the governing body to have enough sensibility in place to prevent that outcome too. Overly harsh penalties for nothing incidents unsurprisingly lead to events like this. There's no room for nuance, and that's been the case all year whether tip tackles, late hits or contact with the head. Players strip the ball and pretend not to have done, move off the mark to PTB, lay down for minimal contact or take a dive for obstruction in every single game. We can pretend this is all about Myler or we can acknowledge the governing body have created this to an extent by rewarding the players for doing it.

  42. True. But Leigh being at the top table goes a long way towards explaining and understanding RL's issues in 2022 and beyond. The rest of the sporting world is expanding, yet many in our sport are happy for RL to be a suburb of Wigan.

  43. I'd like to see a "f.U.#% It" attitude in this game... Just have a right go and the devil be damned As long as we don't conseed 100 like those overpaid clowns of North Yorkshire... Utter embarrassment Let's put a show on for premier sports... As we're not gonna be on for a very long time

  44. Does it really matter how many free tickets were given out, they could all have been free for me. What is more important is getting the people of Cornwall interested in the game and they will turn out more and more.

  45. If they dis 1st vs 2nd, 3rd vs 4th etc. They'd have meaningful tight games that contributed to the league
