I agree that's the NRL's thinking but I feel a second team in NZ has tangible benefits for the NRL. The NRL could possibly become the dominant media sport in NZ and through greater popularity create an even larger player pool of young talent. So ignoring a second NRL team in NZ for the lack of a sufficient financial sweetener would be in my opinion a short sighted view of growing the influence of the NRL in NZ.

When my landlord did up the building I live in, he installed ceiling halogens in place of the old hanging tungsten filament bulb for the main room light. As those halogens failed one by one over the years, I replaced them with LED equivalents which have lasted ever since, but I used "daylight" bulbs instead of the more yellow tint of the regular ones that ape traditional lightbulbs. I also have an uplighter with a 150w-equivalent daylight bulb and it all makes the indoors light feel much more natural, especially during Winter. These can be good for S.A.D. sufferers.

The NRL has stated their goal is to expand to 20 teams, have them play in a 19-round NRL season, and fill the extra space in the season it has created with more test football. This clearly isn't empty lip service - it is now backed by massive investment in the game for the whole of the Pacific Islands, not just PNG. That being the case, you'd have to assume a 2nd team in NZ is well and truly on the way - set to be stocked not only by Kiwi talent, but also players from Fiji, Samoa and Tonga, once the development programs in the islands are up and running. My guess is we'll have PNG, Perth and NZ all with new franchises by 2028, as part of a new broadcast deal that will feature a significant program of Test football.

I'm impressed with the headline sponsor, that isn't a problem. Leigh have a track record though in this department. giving O2 major shirt sponsorship when it was the local shop giving them a tenner. That was selling a major brand on the dirt cheap. Hence I am interested in is this what it seems, and what is its true value.

Christmas where to begin.. For me the end of September is when the dread kicks in, I panic that me and my partner won't have Christmas sorted and the kids will be disappointed, we never fail and they are never disappointed but I can't get that in my head until we are over the line. I withdraw from any outings I may have planned, I haven't allowed myself go on a Christmas do with work in 8 years, I make up excuses why I can't attend any spontaneous get togethers, my psoriasis flares up and I become very short and snappy with people.. the Christmas dread genuinely puts my relationships with my partner, family and friends in turmoil. My partner thinks I have Seasonally Adjusted Depression and I may have.. I feel foolish talking to people about how this time of year makes me feel when you have so many people getting through Christmas without loved ones and I assume for the majority of people it's the best time anyone could spend with thier families. I do feel that too myself once my anxiety has settled but the run up to it is awful and I'm aware it is something I'm putting on myself. I have only ever told my partner and mum about my Christmas dread until now.. never thought I'd publicly sharing it on internet forum so if there is another poster on here who tortures themselves in a similar manner each Christmas your not alone.. hang in there

When I first heard about this I was abit "meh" about it but then I watched the last boundary line on youtube and realised it was going to be bit more of a family fun day with music food and drinks before the game "think Silverstone Festival" my attitude quickly changed, I'm sure it was mentioned that they are targeting 10k for the attendance which may seem abit of a reach but when you consider that if each of those 2500 children bring just one family member with them then that is half of that attendance already it seems a very achievable target hopefully the town gets behind this day as it could be a cracker.

I think sometimes people would maybe be surprised by how loose some of the business cases are on these things. Particularly when we are talking relatively modest amounts from a huge P&L. Clearly a £10m sponsorship deal will need plenty of governance and will receive scrutiny, but a £150-250k one less so, and could relatively easily be 'lost' in a marketing budget under awareness.

Seems there's a predicted 700k operating loss for the year, a new rental agreement will reduce that but seems unlikely it will eradicate it. So that means there will come a point when costs can't be paid unless something changes. Carter will be the least of your worries in this scenario, if there's a business restructuring specialists also involved, they will be all over it.

Agreed. Once pathways are demonstrably working, a professional league of the NRLs size on their own doorstep is surely a better pull than European rugby.

It is the incumbent, dominant sport. That can change quickly with a dominant NRL, this investment into development and pathways as well as increased opportunities to play RL internationally.

For lunch today, I treated myself to a six pack of Morrison's Bakery Shortcrust mince pies and I have to say I really enjoyed them. The pastry was really crumbly and soft and just the right level of moisture, not too moist that it turns to paste in your mouth but not too dry that it absorbs what moisture you have in your mouth. They were very deep but this didn't matter because they were stuffed full of filling, not an empty space to be found and the filling was not too strong or overpowering, just the right sort of level. Definitely some of the better ones I've had, could even have been top if they'd just been a little deeper but that is the only fault I have with them and like I said, it wasn't a big problem. ------------ 1. Yeah I think so. I've read numerous posts on Facebook etc saying things like "sure, you're enjoying your Christmas but what about (insert terrible case)". It can only take away from what little enjoyment we can get in our lives. I'm definitely not saying I don't care, I do and strongly. But I feel the way to improve things is not to make others feel bad too.

Saw that Finlay Walker was in the U19s side. To be playing U19s whilst U16 and at an international level, is pretty incredible stuff. I’m sure he is a great player, good to hear he’s signed with Salford. Wish him all the best. Good to hear about all the Welsh players signing with SL clubs. I hope some of the will make it because, the welsh talent from the old crusaders side are beginning to retire. I don’t think there will be a single Welsh raised player in SL next year with Dudson going to Oldham. Let’s hope Billy Walkley is picked up by an SL club, he is a special talent.

I think it's a case of when not if as regards another Queensland team. It could be either Brisbane 3 or Cairns. We already know the next 2 NRL teams and then in my opinion it's toss up between NZ 2 and another Queensland team after that.

This would be my preference but I wouldn’t count out another Queensland team and more specifically one from south east Queensland region. Queensland currently has a population equal to that of New Zealand and it’s growing all the time easily outpacing that of New Zealand and is expected to reach 6.5 million by 2040 the majority of which will be in south east Queensland. 5 NRL teams representing a population of 6.5 million is certainly workable especially in a RL mad state like Queensland.

Precisely this. You can honour the number by making it something that other players aspire to hold, as the #7 is at Man United for example. Roy Keane refused it because he didn’t think he was worthy. Now that’s a tribute. But, having retired it, then it needs to stay retired otherwise you’re saying you never really meant it in the first place. Which is awful.

Another Xmas food I enjoy is Stollen , Lidl and Aldi of course have the best and they are pretty equal in variety and taste. And they have 'All butter ' mini Stollen if you prefer no fruit or Marzipan.

I think the Taiwan people get to decide whether they're part of China or not. Lines drawn on maps in the past don't trump the self-determination of a region's people today. If war broke out between the US and China then Australia would be at war, they're integrated with the US defence framework. Maybe bombs wouldn't drop in Australia. But then maybe my house will never catch fire either. Like I said, you don't insure against certainty or even a likelihood, you insure against possibilities.

Those cuckoo's are the ones that have actually paid their rent though and have kept the whole thing remotely viable. I'm all for knocking Sale as much as anyone but there's an awful sense of entitlement from Salford fans in all this and it's built on pretty much nothing. They have had way more support from a local council than what would normally be expected.

A friend of mine posted this earlier on Facebook, people are willing to listen, talk if you reach out. When I was a cllr I used to get people calling me on Christmas day to complain about a streetlight. After the first year I realised that wasn't why they called. They just wanted to speak to someone on Christmas Day. I welcomed the calls after that. Always made sure we had a conversation. Always ended on a nice note. If you're feeling low, lonely or sad, give me a shout this Christmas period. I don't mind. Dunno if I can do much but I'll have a chat. Give me a shout. It's good for both of us.

Worst possible draw if the Navy win. Cost wise . Portsmouth away will cost £1000s We've also got Cornwall in the league .. . I just hope that the clubs supporters get behind the club this season and we get better attendances .

As pre-season is underway and squads start to be finalised, Championship 2025 looks intriguing. Normally you'd expect the side coming down to be a strong frontrunner for the title, if not nailed on. That appears not to be the case with London, who could be pretty good, or may tank. Likewise, teams coming up often struggle. many will tip Hunslet to go down, but Oldham look different gravy and definitely have Top Six ambitions, if not higher. Bradford, Featherstone and York all look at least as good as last year. I think Toulouse will be too. Widnes have made changes upstairs and will hope to make the six. Not sure about Halifax. Sheffield have had problems with Aston, but when that's finally put to bed, they'll be competitive once again. Batley are never easy beats. Doncaster had a solid first year back in the Championship. Barrow go about their business in a tidy fashion. The Top Six play off for the title after 24 matches in 26 rounds. 7th, 8th and 9th finish for the year. 10th, 11th, 12th and 13th will be involved in a protracted playoff system with the Top four of League 1 to see which 3 clubs out of those 8 will be in Championship 2026.

Villefranche were promoted to Elite 1 and Entraigues volunteered to return to National 1. Realmont, just down the road is a real RL club. The town doesn’t have a RU club which guarantees a decent turnout. The brutal slope in one corner, which makes Mount Pleasant look like a putting green , is often the downfall of many a visiting team ! Looking forward to a home victory at RCLA later who host Carpentras.
