For me I'd quite happily take a couple more seasons in the Championship battling at the top end, securing the base for the club regarding its foundation, pathways, junior & girls teams, increasing crowd numbers, sponsorship and so on. Mixed in their a couple more signing of the Josh Drinkwater ilk. Really get the club on a stable footing but still mixing it with the big boys with the continued support of BQ's finances in a sensible fashion. What I'd hate for us to do is for BQ as passionate as he is (thank god we've got him at Oldham!!!!) to blow his lot on an ill fated attempt to get us into Super League when we are not ready and the foundations are not there. Leigh tried it a few years ago and were just not prepared hence for a few season's they were a yoyo club between SL and the Championship. What has been achieved by the current ownership has been nothing short of miraculous and I cannot thank them enough for putting Oldham RL back on the map big style and the pride back in the fans. The caveat to this is I do not want us to run before we can walk. BQ is a smart businessman and has not got where he is without being savvy. I'd just hope emotion and wanting the best for Oldham does not cloud the practicalities of turning a dying Oldham RL (which it was) into a successful sustainable club ready to compete in Super League for many years to come. I'm happy to go along for the ride as it is as the only way forward at the moment is up but lets do it in a measured and sensible way. If BQ spaffs all his money straight away is there someone else to replace him? I'm not sure there may be but i dont know. I'd hate for things to go that way so the not so slowly approach to building the club up from its foundations works for me. Its a great time to be an Oldham fan but lets not rush things too much!!!!

It was a bit bizarre I thought, it came in the immediate moments after Leeds' last try which was absolutely faultless as regards any possible rule infringements. The Lewis incident is in the following video with the replay around 1 minute 24 of the actual video time. I've watched it several times and, at the risk of incurring Worzel's wrath, I'm trying to work out what caused the HIA failure. Yes, Newman caught him high but it wasn't much more than a grab. He didn't make a direct hit on his jaw that normally is the reason a concussion occurs and his head didn't hit the ground either. It was a high tackle, that is obvious, and more than worthy of the penalty, but Lewis was losing the ball before any contact was made. I must admit, along with Jon Wells, I thought he was milking it a bit and was amazed when he failed his HIA. Perhaps the RFL Disciplinary will have a look and then we'll get their insight. Whatever, it was a high shot and Newman can probably consider himself fortunate that he didn't also have a sit down for at least ten minutes.

5 years ago Hull KR and Leigh wouldn’t have dreamed of 10k+ crowds, what those two clubs have done is phenomenal.

I was at the game and watched the match on YouTube last night. Up to the 50 minute mark it was anyone’s game. A bit of indiscipline cost you and we took advantage then your heads seemed to drop and we scored a couple of tries that perhaps you should have stopped which gave the final score a lopsided look. Anyway I had a natter with a few of your fans and they were a pleasure to talk to. Good luck for the rest of the season.

A good weekend for us in terms of the table, not only did Barrow, Halifax, Doncaster and Widnes all lose, but the first three mentioned all had better points difference than us beforehand, but don't now. Think we saw once again the inconsistency of Championship teams and how hard it is to back up from a tough game, Barrow were pretty weak in contact after the first 20 minutes despite (or perhaps because of) having beaten Bradford last week. Hunslet almost beat us a week after we had a gruelling cup final but shipped 130 points at home against Barrow and London in their next two games, the form book is completely out of the window in the Championship this year as a tough game or a couple of injuries seem to make a huge impact. For that reason it's a bit tricky to judge our performance because I don't think that was anywhere near the best version of Barrow, but we got the job done without too many worries and scored some good tries. Perhaps the biggest bonus yesterday was we got a significant performance out of Siti Akauola, obviously he's been hampered by injuries/fitness earlier this year and it remains to be seen if he can continue with the form he showed yesterday but that was way better than anything he's shown previously this year. For me King V stands out almost every week in terms of contact, we still struggle to win the collision at times but defensively in particular he's like a brick wall, I really hope we can get him back next year.

What I find laughable is the description from 2 KR posters of the Newman tackle on Lewis as being a 'close line' tackle. I would say those who made that claim have never inflicted, recieved or even observed a 'clothes line' tackle. A 'clothes line tackle' is delivered with a swinging stiff arm, it hits the head area with such force that the head remains still at the point of impact in relation to the travel of the body, then the lower limbs will swing up until all the body is virtually horizontal to the ground. This tackle was prominent in the fifties, sixties and early seventies from some of the 'enforcers' of those times which I'm sure some of our older posters could testify to, but I have never witnessed one on a professional field for years and years and years, thank goodness that has been eradicated from the game. The tackle from Newman was no more than a grab on the opposite shoulder with a bent arm and the forearm connects with the neck/chin area, BUT with enough force to knock out Lewis?

As has been the case for a long time, short term thinking and self interest seem to be the guiding mantras at so many clubs.

I was recently told by a Doctor who conducts those tests at games that they give you a few words to remember then repeat later during the test procedures - maybe Lewis was asked some words of more than 1 syllable ?

Totally lost my voice at Eirias Park. What a great atmosphere and a performance to match from Crusaders. Some great tries scored and celebrated by the Cru fans. Nice to see Workington well supported too, and thanks to all their fans for making the long journey. Top of the League with 10 wins from 11 games and a game in hand on the rest of the top 4, with another home game next Sunday.

I wasn’t happy with the amount if haven players Jonty brought with him, at the end of the day they struggled last year in a higher division, I was hoping they would stand out in a lower league but they haven’t. Only Carter, Doran and Graham look up to it IMO, the rest have been disappointing. We need a massive improvement if we are looking to win our next couple of games.

Here's a breakdown of the HIA protocol: 1. Identification & Removal: Match officials, team doctors, or independent match-day doctors identify potential head injuries through on-field observation or video review. Players displaying obvious concussion symptoms are immediately and permanently removed from the game. Players without clear symptoms undergo an off-field assessment. I think the second point covers this, in that if you have been knocked out (I.e immobile on the floor) the this is classed as obvious concussion.

Maybe Mikey Lewis failed his HIA as he couldn't count to 'VI'....

I didn't go yesterday, but my lad did. His reflection of the game echo's that of others and what we keep seeing this season I've only been to a handful of games this time but from what I've seen we have a half decent set of lads willing to try and can play well at this level, just not for the full 80 We seem to lack the ability to be smart when it counts quite often. IMO with better coaching we have a side that is easily capable of being real contenders in this league, or a strong mid table in a combined Championship of 18 or so (if that's they way it goes)

Correct. The only Belgium team that ever existed. Saluzzo Roosters were the only legit Italian team that ever existed. They spent 2-3 years playing in a French regional division (averaging a six-hour drive each way for every away match) before eventually returning to RU. Every other Italian "club" to exist only ever made a brief appearance in that one month summer window when there was no union.

Its unbelievable and its been a pleasure to see how those two clubs have grown. I look forward to Wakefield joining them too as they continue to grow.

So a bad day at the Office in Wales and not what we wanted but lets draw a line under that game and move on to the Midlands game which should be a cracker and hopefully we get Guy and Levi back for this one. These are the games where the team really need our support and lets not forget this is our Charity game so lets raise plenty of money for Wasdale Mountain Rescue and with early bird tickets at just £14 not sure what more the Club can do to try and get supporters through the gate. Yeah, agree a few years ago Mark Calderwood had two good games on the trot at the close of the season and he got selected just on those games, he was never of international quality, so as you and @WN83 say there has to be other Criteria taken into consideration, but conversely it shouldn't happen as Mr Macnamara did for the '13 World Cup when he picked his half backs fully 10 months prior to the comp starting, he may have had the idea who he wanted in, but that should have been a private thought and not made public in case a better candidate came along that season which it did in the form of Danny Brough.

That is exactly right. Those great old historical clubs and their potential are exactly why the Championship is such an important division to the growth of the professional game in the UK.

If you look back at what I said re Marshall and selecting him for the Ashes, it is his frame or lack of height that would worry me, the Aussie wingers are not just a bit taller than Marshall but appreciably taller and they have perfected getting under the high ball kick and chase with aplomb in how they time the catch arms outstretched above their heads and fully 3' - 00" of the floor, couple that with those who will deliver the kicks can land them on a sixpence. I agree with you re Liam's attributes that you mention, but there are times when 'horses for courses' should be the order of the day and I strongly believe that the selection of the wingers should reflect this. And your last sentance, was Friday not a big game 2nd v 4th and local bragging rights.

When will we manage to play for a full 80 minutes? I don’t think we woke up until they had scored their points. We are still trying to barge through defences, but all to no avail. When Keighley did the same they were able to break through and get passes away and tries were scored. Only Craig McShane managed to score in that first period to Keighley’s three converted tries and a penalty goal. We managed to get close to their try line four or five times without success until McShane’s touchdown, sadly not converted. Playing downhill in the second half should have brought success; we got close at 20-16, but instead of having the impetus to go and score more, we seemed to lose concentration and drifted into losing our heads and finished seeing Coates taking a break for ten minutes, which ironically, brought out some great defensive work, surviving three penalties on our line and once knocking the ball down from their passing movement. Hookem’s try was for once, from keeping the ball alive on the last tackle with some good passing and running. The best try of the match came from Caelum Jordan, who outpaced everyone to run some 80 metres to score in the rich corner. That try was immaculately converted by Jacob Hookem, but from that point we dropped off and did nothing else on attack. Late in the game there was a chance; we got the ball on our 20 and if someone had had the nous to kick over the Cougars’ heads because there was no full back and chase, we may gone in for a possible winning try. Hookem had gone off the field by then for a head injury assessment. Have we no other kicker in the side? Our indiscipline showed today with penalty count of 11-5 against us.

For the second time this season I don't think Fev saw the best version of Barrow, the inconsistency of most teams in the Championship this year is crazy (which is why I think York are probably the best team at the moment, they seem to be at least 7 or 8 out of 10 every week). Barrow were pretty moderate and after a shakey first 20 minutes Fev were not bad. From looking dead and buried in terms of the play-offs a few weeks ago, Fev have gained crucial wins against Widnes, Barrow (x2), and Halifax in the last couple of months that have enabled them to claw their way back into the top 6, having been one from the bottom after losing 6 of the first 8 games. Looks like the 5 teams in the current 5 to 9 slots are competing for the last 2 play-off spots. My gut feeling is that Fev and Doncaster are the two favourites for those last 2 spots on recent form, which makes the game at the Eco-Power Stadium on 17th August a big one.

We've all supported them for decades mate and the fact that we're still here shows we dont throw the towel in like some, but you shouldn't applaud or forgive shoddy performances. Yes nobody goes on the field to lose but when you've spent big and the directors have built a club to be proud of they deserve better. To be honest it'll be a miracle if any league 1 club gets promoted but we are in serious danger of not making the top 4 and you can call it chucking the towel but in the current form and with the upcoming fixtures I'd say it's being realistic. Our second row was our strength but we've struggled since they've been injured.

Was at the match and didn't expect that to be honest, we pulled it back to 20-16 and I thought we were back in it but not to be ,but what I will say I will continue to support the lads as I have I done for the last 50 odd years and not throw the towel in like some on here have already, some of the comments from so called Townies down there today was beyond belief and some need to give their heads a shake, players make mistakes it happens, we where up against a big fast team who have spent heavily, some won't like my comments that's fine I can take it , let's back the lads and the club and get back on the horse and go again next week. Wakefield Trinity forward Josh Griffin will continue his playing career in 2026 after agreeing a deal to sign for Championship side York Knights.

Reynolds came off late, hopefully a precaution in a game already won. Off the injury list, Day's shoulder was supposed to be one week. I'd be glad if he's fit. Wynne was touch and go for Barrow so let's assume he's fit. Olpherts put in a shift, so it's three wingers for two spots again, unless GG goes to centre. Robson Stevens was 18th man, so he's ready. Wilde had a niggle so he could be good for Friday too. Tuimavave, O'Connor, Williams and Turner im guessing won't feature. Looking at the minutes v Barrow, all the backs except Glover (60m) and Reynolds (73m) did the full 80. They experimented with that back when I was on the list, it didn’t work, the players “number off” against the attacking line and look to the play the ball to move up out of defence, they can’t do that and look at the tj. We discussed how it was going at half time and abandoned it, we reported our experience to the RFL who accepted our decision

We've (Emley) had 3 pre-season games so far, beating Huddersfield Town 3-1 in front of a record crowd since reforming of 1,977, this was followed by a 3-0 defeat to Barnsley in front of another impressive crowd of 1,546, 3,500 supporters in 5 days is a huge testament to the progress they're making on and off the field. The latest was a 3-1 victory at local Huddersfield rivals, Golcar United.

We all were, it killed the club off, thankfully it survived in the form of the reserve team which evolved into the club we have today, back at it's spiritual home in the village. Ironically the Wakefield club died, even the latest incarnation of a Wakefield football club play in Featherstone.

Apologies to those that seemed upset. I was just interested in if the Chance to be a Super League team in blue was more important than keeping the heritage of the club alive even if it meant never being able to reach the top. But I hear you NONE OF THE ABOVE wins

During the 90s and early 2000s, we had a delivery driver who was a volunteer for Emley, he'd deliver once a week and we always end up talking about Emley, even during the off season, he was absolutely gutted when they relocated to Wakefield.

LSVs capacity has been reduced to under 11k due to the concourse and the stage (which has already been mentioned). I watched the Widnes and Cas Semi and the North Stand that Day was 'booming' with over 12000 in attendance. I am absolutely positive that more can be done to hit 11k if need be as unreserved seating reduces capacity too. Irrespective, green shoots and all that, and as Long as Leigh can fill 3 sides to the stadium moving forward, plan B (improving home capacity) can only be questioned when the hardcore hits over 8k week in and week out. With the size of the Town, its some achievement and Wakefield too have done fantastically well. Who said relegation doesn't work ?

I agree and I have always said I wouldn't pick Marshall either. He is a solid SL winger but for me he's not top international level. I'd be picking the likes of Young and Johnstone over him any day of the week.

Ainley does nothing? Big minutes, runs with aggression and makes minimal mistakes.

Funding to clubs outside the chosen few will be cut, its almost inevitable, and as usual those underfunded clubs will cry foul and say "this isnt what we expected"

According to RL Project, Hull KR haven't averaged 5 figures since 1967/8, and have only averaged between 9k and 9999 twice in that period too (1980/1 and last year). They look set to break that barrier this year. Leigh haven't averaged 5 figures since 1959/60. Leigh's current average of over 8k is somewhere between double to quadruple what they were getting 10 years ago; whilst KR have added between 2 to 4k on their average attendances in that time too.

Absolutely not players need to learn not to touch injured players whether they are faking it or not. It only takes one player with a serious injury who could be paralysed because a player try’s to drag him up. That’s why the punishments are so high they are trying to change players mindsets. That won’t happen if we keep saying oh he wasn’t injured so we will let you off.
