  1. Looks like the final will KO at 17:45 following the main event.  So everyone will have left the stadium by then and going out revelling around Wembley.

The Women's final around 12:45 so a lot of the crowd will be in to catch the latter parts and cheer them on.  Why couldn't they have witched the start times around as I would have thought that there would be more interest from fans in the Sundeck Cup? Or am I wrong?

Ah well, it is what it is.

A new website is on the way — so I'm told — however I'm not involved.

The current site morphed out of the Dare to be Wise fan site I did a while back.  I'd designed that as a "What I'd do if I built a website for the club".  It's the only website in any division that uses its current software platform and literally every byte of code came from my keyboard.  It's super fast and I literally can't remember the last time it was down — I don't think it has been for years.  I monitor it like a hawk with various bits of automation.

Prior to the new owners coming on board I was at the planning stage of a new design.  The new site was going to take on board what I think works, change/ditch what I think doesn't and add some more fun bits.   I've now got lots of experience at running an RL website (I actually also manage several other websites both connected and unconnected with RL).  Oh yeah and we smashed the IMG figures by almost double.

Anyway, I've lovingly kept the current site updated to the best of my ability — as a labour of love — for the past six or seven years.  I've updated it from halfway up a mountain in Greece, sat cross-legged in front of the Pyramid Stage at Glastonbury, from my hotel room in Manhattan, NYC, lying on the beach at Marbella and most recently from Waterstones Cafe at Bentalls Dept store in Kingston-on-Thames.

After one game, I was sat on the runway in an aircraft waiting to come home from a holiday.  I was able to download Murgy's images after a game just before we took off.  I processed the photos during the flight and prepared the match report.  As soon as we landed I pushed the update and it all appeared on the site before I got home.

It works in such a way that it's easy for me to run a copy of it on my mobile devices and post news articles with images pretty darned quickly.  It's also super nerdy but hey-ho.

I hope the new website delivers something good for the club and fans.  It's going to be strange being on the outside.  I can't wait to critique it.

Hey Dave, I think you have done a wonderful job on the website over a number of years and always kept it relevant and up to date.

The website was always up to date and that's down to your dedication to the club. I know the club are looking to be at the forefront of media and they will have their own ideas of what that entails but, would involving you in setting up the new website spoilt any vast eternal plan?

Hopefully, the club will reach out to you soon and look for your valuable input and not just rely on consultants.

Thanks for all you've done over the years.

    Anita,

Do you ever hear of my late father inlaw who used to play for the hornets,he was called Tommy Turner a prop who played in the 60's and was there when the first fijians came, they came to see one time when he had the Manor pub, great lad's, and then a lot later on my nephew barrie mac signed for owdam.

    Hi Wozzeryedhead

Following this post I have a feeling I know who you are and, if I'm right, you worked at Park Cake Bakeries at the Borough Mill site.

It's at the back of the main stand, where you go into the car park.

Thanks Wozzeryedhead, hopefully be able to get there on Sunday.

  5. If they sell out in the main stand will they open another stand to still allow pay at the gate or will it be classed as a sell out?

I won't know if I can make it until on the day so don't want to go over to the game to be told I can't get in.

Any information would be really appreciated.

  6. As many people are saying here, it is so difficult to decide, but here are a few for me that haven't already been mentioned

David Liddiard, Paul "Knocker" Norton, Paul Round, Tommy Martin, Shane McMenemy, Steve Molloy & Chris Joynt

Recently we've had Kruise Leeming and Tyler Dupree who went on to greater things too.

Apologies in advance for all the other greats I've missed off.

Great signing as a player. Oldham lad as well. Straight in as head coach though?

If it's true about Turner then going in to this as a first time coach won't be too harsh as he will have the full assistance of a very good mentor in Ford.  So he won't be in too much at the deep end and this could well end up making him into a very good coach going forward.

Whether it's Turner, an established coach in their own right or a complete newcomer I firmly believe that the new board will do all they can to make the right decision for the club.

That's my Good Friday sorted for me and my grandson. Standard cup final, up into Oldham for lunch and a beer at the Fox and Pine.

Then on to Latics and eventually down to Whitebank for the Roughyeds. Looking forward to a great day out..... and all tickets purchased

Hi TBF, what is kick off time for the Standard Cup and is it still at Oldham Rugby Union's club at Bardsley?

  9. This is terrific news and I'm sure it has been a long time in the making. This will I'm sure create a big buzz of excitement around the town and will hopefully attract some of the fans who have a drifted away for whatever reasons they had and make it a huge turnout against the "old Enemy" on Good Friday.

I am not expecting any dramatic changes in the near future as I believe there will be a long term plan in place, and so there should be, I am just so pleased that we have some really great news to celebrate now.

On another important note I would like to take this opportunity to say a big, big thank you to Chris Hamilton for all his hard work and passion over the last 25 years in keeping professional Rugby League alive in the town. I know he's had his detractors but, I can honestly say that all my dealings with him over the years have been good ones. I wish him all the best for the future and hope we see him at the games cheering on his and our Oldham Roughyeds.

What a real shame if that's the case Tony - particularly after Frank Rothwell's positive comments in the press. Let's hope that's not yet another bridge that's been burned.

    With you on that RR

That's there because I put it there.  Each club in the league has an entry for their home ground and the site just pulls out whatever it finds.  Of course if things change, I just change the entry.

    Thanks for clarifying Dave
