Already getting ugly. Club has pointed the finger at IMG and some fans seem to be buying it:

"With the new IMG grading criteria, clubs are not directly rewarded for running an ‘Elite Academy’, so we will focus on other areas to improve with the long term aim of becoming a Category A."

This is still on the RFL. IMG couldn't put Academy setups in their grading criteria because the RFL won't let everyone run one.

One of my biggest frustrations around the recent series was that the series was run just like an Ashes but just a bit, well, crapper.

Whatever comes in future, we need to create some kind of identity around them. There was nothibg unique about the Tonga tour, it was just a case of fly a team in and play some rugby in regular grounds.

France does give us a bit of an opportunity here. I do like Gavs suggestion of the triple headers, and I think a takeover of a city for a weekend for a men's test, a women's test and a wheelchair test plus some cultural events, markets, festivals, entertainment etc- one weekend in England, one in France could be a unique offering. Maybe even do something to tie the matches together (a tally of wins for example).

We need to think about things differently, if we just stage a match at Warrington or Leigh, we know what we'll get, and we'll get what we deserve.

Leeds, Manchester, London, Liverpool, Newcastle etc are the cities that we should be thinking about and no SL grounds should be used under any circumstances. The premium SL grounds can have a place in a medium sized series, but not if you are trying to create a big event.

Thanks Dave, you perfectly explained and elaborated on the reasoning behind what I was thinking last night, very much appreciated! 😁👌🏼

Been away for a few days just catching up, must say that it does not surprise me one bit that IMG's criteria are being taken as a joke.

BUT I honestly believe under this system Leigh's position for starting 2025 in SL is very tenuous, IMG at the press of a computer button on a spreadsheet could overnight lose as many as 5000 spectators and a guy who puts quite a bit of money into the sport, if this does not matter in the slightest then all those in favourress carry on regardless, with my best wishes.

Oh good, you've come back after a few days away and said the exact same thing you've said on this thread (and others) dozens of times already.

    Solid input.

I don’t see what is wrong with the sponsor, they are a huge business who are paying money to go on the front of their shirt. No different to other clubs (except the fact they are actually a big business!)

It's not the actual sponsor per se for me (Home Bargains is ace, I go in all the time), more the fact that it is enormous and sticks out like a sore thumb on a supposed 'blackout' kit, from a design point of view.

Think Penrith would disagree with that

Funnily enough, St Helens Academy beat Penrith on their last tour in 2019.

One of the players on that tour - Taylor Pemberton - I'm hoping will have a big 2024 with York.

Hopefully Levi Edwards will get an injury free run for the Kneets next season, the kids a real gun. 👌🏼

Lol wouldn’t want Tyler the way he performed when he was loaned to us

I know you're joking, but he was a raw 19 year old when he came to us and played in an injury ravaged side against Fev. Now he's one of the most expensive players in Super League history, and is a Grand Final winner and England international... 😅
