  1. I've just seen on the club website we are currently the 3rd placed team. Battling Bulldogs Into Final Four - Batley Bulldogs
  2. Does anyone know what the central funding is for next season yet? I had seen an announcement was due shortly, but since then, it has gone very quiet. Also, does yesterday's win mean the lowest we can finish is 3rd, in terms of prize money, regardless of next week's result at Fev, providing York do not beat Leigh?
  3. What do you reckon those clubs have spent this season?
  4. Really tough call this week with so many strong performances it is hard to pick 3 stand outs 1. Leak - he gave us a tremendous lift and spark when he came on 2. Manning - a defensive masterclass 3. Brown - took the game to Barrow and lead from the front.
  5. To be honest, I think it has helped the overall look of the ground. Although, I was glad I was undercover when the rain showers hit prior to kick off.
  6. So good to see so many kids watching the game. It's been a long time since I have been up to Barrow, the ground has improved significantly and the atmosphere was tremendous. Most teams should take a look at what is going on up there and take note.
  7. Fantastic performance today 1-17, not many errors and defended like demons
  8. Failure is the opportunity to begin again more intelligently. - Henry Ford From the bar scene in the first Rocky film Andy: Will you take a look at that guy? I mean, where are the real fighters gonna come from, the pros? What we got today are Canadian jig clowns. Rocky: Clown? Andy: That's right, clown. Rocky: Ya callin' Apollo Creed a clown? Andy: Well, what else, look at him. Rocky: Hey, Andy, are you crazy? This man is champion of the world. He took his best shot and become champ. Huh? What shot did you ever take?
  9. I don't think anyone is missing the point. Have a read of this RFL This will tell you all you need to know on the matter.
  10. As has been pointed out every season since Kevin took charge. It is a club decision not announce anything until the current season is over. Nothing more, nothing less.
  11. 1970s Gibson SG 1978 Ibanez Artist Super Edition But my weapon of choice is a JHS Vintage brand Jackson/Charvel-esque copy, I picked up really cheap on ebay, it plays so well. Laney GC 120C with a few different Boss pedals (Distortion, Chorus, delay, Phaser, flanger) but I tend to play through POD farm and Guitar Rig on my laptop since the kids were born, as it is a little easier to keep the noise levels down.
  12. Are Kheirallah and Pickersgill not contracted to Fev for next season? If so, why would you need Hooley on DR? When I heard Hooley was talking to Leeds, I assumed he would be farmed out to Bradford or York on season long loan, if he was to sign for them. As I can't see him getting a game in front of Myler or Hardaker. For his sake, if he does go, I am hoping he will sign for a SL team where he will be given the chance to test himself in a higher division on a regular basis. However, it is a short career and money talks...
  13. Maybe the press got it wrong, perhaps Nigel Wood went as conditioner and nutritionist rather than CEO? I don't think I have seen a more unfit side than Bradford.
  14. I wouldn't be too sure that is the case. The years of watching this sport have left me very sceptical. The article strikes me as click bait, sensationalised journalistic nonsense. Bradford Bulls are to receive a lower-than-planned central distribution share from the Rugby Football League in 2023 due to the start of a loan repayment issued to the club by the governing body several years ago. It makes no reference to the exact amount borrowed, just 6 figure sum, or the amount that will be withheld from central funding each season. If the loan will be paid back at £5 a season, I think they might cover that relatively comfortably without issue, regardless of whether they borrowed £100k or £999k. It doesn't give any useful information to allow the reader to make any sort of judgement either way.
  15. Quite agree, and I'm not saying everyone isn't entitled to a moan. What I find difficult with a club like Batley, is when some fans seem to think even though we have probably spent around 10% of what Leigh and Fev have, we should be on a par with them, and have cover in every position, and a squad of 40 first team regulars. What the club has done this season is amazing, regardless of the final few results. If someone had said at the start of the season we'd have taken 3 points from Fev, and finished in a playoff place, I'd have thought they had found Roger's secret stash of home-brewed happy sauce. The club has produced another miracle season, yet some cannot see what an achievement that is! Budget wise, we should have been in a relegation battle, and although extremely unlikely, we could find ourselves in SL next year!
  16. Very true, but the further away the lower divisions are from SL standards, means development opportunities for younger players to get them SL ready decreases. Which long term equates to lower standards in the top division. The decrease in quality means less interest in the game as a whole, fewer spectators, and less money for future TV deals until there is so little interest, the game ends up back where it started, as a semi pro sport. It isn't rocket science!
  17. I had no idea it was you, but it was driving me crazy, and obviously by the reaction of the other fans, I was not alone. Everyone is entitled to an opinion, but sharing it is an option, not an obligation.
  18. I must admit I am more than a little disappointed. I was hoping we might be seeing him a dog's shirt next season. I was hoping we'd get him when he originally signed for you.
  19. Agreed, I didn't think we had fans that spend the entire match whining, moaning and complaining either, but one of our fans was doing nothing else, straight from the kickoff. It was absolutely incessant. One of highlights of the night for me, was when a couple of our fans, in front of him finally lost patience and asked him to stand elsewhere, fortunately he duly obliged and the 2nd half was much a more enjoyable experience, regardless of the uplift in performance.
  20. What makes my blood boil is, the lack of understanding by some posters on this forum, that expect Championship clubs to spend around a third of the central funding they receive for the season, travelling to France. SL teams with £2M a year should be able to absorb the cost of travel, and I quite agree with you, if they cannot find £50k out of £2M they have got problems. Last year, Batley travelled to Toulouse twice, once in the league and again in the playoffs, presumably the cost of travel in the playoffs was added to the costs before the gate was shared, which is fair enough, but again more lost revenue against playing an English based team in the playoffs. It is not just the cost of travel that impacts either. If the average away support is 500 at £20 (including bar and food revenue for ease of calculation), that is another £10k in lost revenue by incorporating an overseas team. Somehow, clubs in the Championship are expected to field a competitive side, market themselves to increase gates so they are not as reliant on away support, and find the money for ground upkeep and bills on circa £120k a season central funding, (they still do not know the exact figure for next year yet, it could be even less). Which is less than the going rate of a third rate, has been overseas player that is likely to have a questionable disciplinary record. If a CH club doesn't welcome an overseas team, or particularly like the thought of losing £50k+ a season of their already meagre budget, to incorporate a team that is able to outspend them 20:1, they are seen as small minded and parochial thinkers. Remember, it takes money to make money.
  21. I could not agree more. Everything in the game seems to be approached as a quick fix, short term endeavour. The game has to get in to the schools, and particularly in to the University's that have big teacher training faculties. The teachers of tomorrow are not likely to promote a sport they have had little to no exposure to themselves. Maybe even a scheme by the game to run school tag rugby teams as part of after school clubs etc. Without the game being played in schools very few kids will be exposed and the game with just wither away.
  22. I would wholeheartedly support SL moving to a franchise system, just as long as the RFL pull their fingers out and sort a good sponsorship and TV deal to ensure the traditional heartland clubs can continue as they are. I can see the logic to it, big catchment areas, huge potential etc etc. But in all my years of watching, it hasn't worked anywhere. London, Newcastle, Toronto, Sheffield and York, all have huge potential and absolutely nothing proven so far in terms of turning that potential into any semblance of turning it into reality. So I say "work away, you greedy, self interested clowns" franchise the lot, bring in a capital investment firm to finance the hell out of it. I just hope I, and all of the traditional clubs that are fighting for the good of the game as a whole are there to pee on the ashes, after if all burns to the ground.
  23. Surely the reason the female player was interviewed, is down to the level of existing interest and/or LE trying to tap in to new markets by enticing new readers to buy a copy of the paper? After all they are a commercial enterprise. If the readership was not interested in the said player, then the paper would be unlikely to have published an interview with her. The arguments raised in your post, could equally be made for boys under 11s, 13s, or 15's for example. Or indeed part time or amateur players They could have all of traits listed above, yet are unlikely to be portrayed as a hero's and as widely publicised. Why is that?
