You sure it was Stella. I'm pretty sure it's the same stuff everywhere.
Maybe it's like Guinness. People will swear blind that the Guinness in Dublin tastes different but Guinness spend millions of pounds making sure that Guinness is the same everywhere.
No I had Pression Stella in France and it tasted nothing like the stuff you get here. Having said that the Pelforth was streets ahead of either the Stella or the 1664
-
Everyone realised it was horrible, and they stopped selling it.
Why haven't they stopped selling Stella, Heineken, Carlsberg, Black Label and Fosters then? It all tastes like p!ss to me. Funnily enough I was drinking Stella in France last week - it doesn't taste anything like the stuff they sell here.

That Wigan hooker was evil. I dont think it was Colin Clarke, who was he?
The commentary says Nicky Kiss
-
Was it within the rules to hit black players at that time?
Seriously, were they targeting Johnson because he was black or because he was good?
Bit of both I suppose. This would be just before the Hanley era, but Clive Sullivan had already captained GB to a World Cup win, and the following year played for Hull in the CC final replay at Elland Road.

Keith Macklin and David Watkins. Went to the old Fartown few times.
I thought it was Keith Macklin, but did realise it was David Watkins. It must have been YTV. Watkins used to co commentate with John Helm on Scrumdown. I reckon Helme is one of the best RL commentators I've heard.
Ian Slater who scored Huddersfield's try is now a financial advisor with the Leeds Building Society.

and my brothers bigger than yours.........
It doesn't make it any less true. Rubbing the tackled player's face in the muck was standard practice for Wigan players in the eighties and nineties. Edwards standing offside deliberately and getting away with it. The great Wigan side were pastmasters of cheating and gamesmanship.
Having said that so were the Leeds side of the same era.
-
Nowhere have I said my clubs fans are angels - I am asking for opinions on how the HKR Club should be punished for the actions of one or two of their fans.
Do you think seeing Wigan players not standing under the sticks is a good image for our great game - unfortunately these scenes were rescreened on the BBC yesterday and a couple of colleagues from work mentioned it.
Do you think the fine should be equal to or more than the one Cas got?
But what about the fact that this happened at Wigan not at Hull? What can the Hull KR club do about something that happens on another club's ground?
-
i really think and hope that wigan will win this game by a decent margin, reading peacocks comments it's like reading the thoughts of a man looking in the mirror. leeds are past masters in the art of blatant cheating and cheap shots.
As Wigan used to be but no one said so.
-
In what way - do you think there should be no action taken?
I've posted on the Union site on a similar topic about Hull KR's crowd problems. Craven Park is the only ground where I've been physically threatened. I shouted for Fev in the old Threepenny Stand at the Boulevard, with some banter but no problem. I've even shouted for Fev at Wheldon Road and not had a problem. After their action against Cas surely the RFL should take some action should be taken against Hull KR. I suppose there is an argument that it didn't happen at Craven Park whereas the Cas incident did happen at Wheldon Road, nevertheless I believe there is a long standing problem at Hull KR.

Plenty of room for fat lads in RL. Watch any amateur and semi-pro team and there are quite a few. The honed bodies in superleague are a reflec tion of: -
- full time training and dietary control
- the nature of the game doesnt require a bit of padding which is necessary for players in the RU forwards ... the full-time-RU pros aren't as fat as they were but still carry far more timber than their RL equivalents.
- the continual-interchange system means they only have to play in 20-minute bursts ... bodies can be honed for impact at the expense of endurance.
- the perfunctory scrum and playing in a summer season means no one gets heavily fatigued by playing in heavy mud and prolonged pushing and pulling in scrums and mauls.
Take no notice of the people on this board who disparage the RU scrum; they've never packed down in one and don't understand the value of wearing the opposition down, wearying both sets of forwards to allow the backs to flourish and the raising of morale that a strong pack can engender.
The RU scrum is fantastic to play in, but not so good for spectators ... that's why RL, which had to survive on its gates, reduced it to a mere restart. Most teams now put backs in the scrum to allow harder tackling/running forwards to either reinforce the defence and/or provide a battering ram for the first reception.
Both RU and RL scrums fulfill the separate purposes for which they are intended. I really enjoyed playing in both.
It's just that some posters on this board think that, because RL is great, RU must be rubbish. Perhaps one day they'll grow up.
I have. In fact I've packed down in the scrum at both games, granted in the contested scrum RL days. The argument for RL is that with contested scrums there'd be no wide running back rowers, because they'd be too knackered by the end of the game and more room for the half backs to work in. David Hobbs and the Fev pack combined to score Fev's winning try in the '83 final after a 75 minutes of contested scrums. Having said that the Hull pack were out on their feet. The problem with the contested scrum (again as can be seen in the '83 final) is that they had to be constantly set and re-set, with every other one resulting in a penalty. I don't know which I prefer. The open play in the contested scrum era seems just as fast as it is today. But the game was slower because of all the stoppages at scrums. The scrummage laws at RL haven't changed. There's nothing to stop a side putting out an old fashioned scrummaging six and trying to win by outscrummaging a lighter six. Who knows it could be the start of a whole new era for RL? Or would it force the RFL to update the rules, given what a dangerous place a contested scrum can be?

As a starting point do Featherstone meet the 5 minimum criteria st out on the RFL's website? If they don't they won't be able to apply for a Super League licence. As you say sentiment doesn't make a good bid. If Fev aren't able to make an application this time around the way they are going they should stand a good chance next time.
To misquote "1066 and All That" Every time Fev get near the qualifying criteria, the RFL change the criteria.
-
I don't like the Fev one. For starters Bluebeard wasn't a pirate - it was Blackbeard, Bluebeard was a serial wife killer. Is the Saints one still the Simon Templar stick man - I've always thought that looks particularly tacky. The best of the old style ones for me was Wakey's fleur de lys.
I've got a Fev baseball cap and a woolly hat, both with the Fev coat of arms with a miners lamp on it.
-
I'm not much of a poet or a musician, but I've aways thought that Featherstone Rovers would fit very nicely into the "Flower of Scotland" tune -
Oh Featherstone Rovers
When will we see your like again?
that's where I get stuck

If they choose Wigan, they won't have to worry about having a game the week after.
I, for one, really want Saints to choose Wigan. It's not often that teams get the chance to choose to do the right thing for the sake of history, but Saints could do the right thing here.
Last game at KR, against their greatest ever rivals. No-one could have scripted that more appropriately.
C'mon Saints, do the right thing.
Dunno. Would the Pies bottle it like they did against Leeds. I don't normally see much SL but I saw both Saints - Wire and Wigan - Leeds last week and Richards had three chances to win the game for them and fluffed them all. Could it be that it really is a mental thing?
-
Just goes to prove Wire are not the deal there fans think they are. Its a lot easier to reach a challenge cup final if you are not drawn against the two top teams in the comp and Wire have done this two years on the trot beating two teams that under performed in the final. With due repect they were impressive against Leeds in the final but there record against the top teams is not that of a champion team. Saints and Leeds have been decimated by injurys this year and Wire and Wigan have had a generally injury free year but have retained more consitancy than previous years. When Wire beat the top sides on a regular basis I will be convinced. As for Wigan I think they will beat Leeds next week as it will be a game too far for Leeds and they wil meet Saints in the final. If they do I would love too see Saints give them a kicking in the final and win it for Cunningham.
They struggled to beat Fev in their first game in the CC.
Have Saints definitely decdide to play Giants? I'd have thought a capacity crowd against the Pies for the last game at KR would be irresistable for them and their fans.

I'll be in France ( or Spain)

The Poacher - Paul Weller version - i can't seem to find the original by Ronnie Lane.

The religion of the residents has nothing to do with anything does it?
Not really, I just thought that parking in an area populated by pious observant orthodox jews would be fairly safe from vandalism.

I looked up the Wales lineup that day. Here it is:
1. Iestyn Harris (capt.)
2. Chris Smith
3. Jason Critchley
4. Kris Tassell
5. Anthony Sullivan
6. Lee Briers
7. Ian Watson
8. Anthony Farrell
9. Keiron Cunningham
10. Paul Moriarty
11. Justin Morgan
12. Paul Highton
13. Chris Morley
14. Wes Davies
15. Paul Atcheson
16. John Devereux
17. David Luckwell
My god was he still playing in 2000? I remember him playing at Fev for Widnes and coming to the bottom end for the ko all the Fev fans shouting "watch your pockets Devereux's here" I think he twisted his ankle in that game and never played again for Widnes.
He used to work in the office at S Evans and Son in Widnes, and I went in one day and he'd disappeared "back to the valleys" I was told.

, and winning twice at Wembley is up there.
Mickey Mouse Cup.

At the start of the game, I thought the stadium looked stunning, it was packed, apart from Club Wembley. Sure there may have been the odd little block, but you may have been talking blocks of 30-40 seats from clubs who hadn't sold their allocation for example.
Also, one point about blocks of red seats, there were a couple of sections at the Leeds end where there were fans of a club in all red shirts, and on TV i thought they looked like empty seats!!!
Unfortunately, due to the fact that people are drinking themselves silly, people are up and down queuing at the bar and toilet, meaning that the actual stadium doesn't stay full for long!
There were two empty seats next to us. And quite a few more around us.
-
Alternatively, you could get a lift with the Petersham RSL courtesy bus via Ashfield!!
Unfortunately I'm not very familiar with London at all. We put Stanmore in the sat nav, intending to park at Stanmore underground - where I parked the last time I went to Wembley (1983 )
We ran into the jam and subsequently discovered that the car park was full anyway, turned around, turned right at the first roundabout and parked on the street down there. Judging from the people hanging about it's obviously a Jewish area.
It took us about 15 mins to walk back to the underground.
Another annoying factor was that we needn't have bought return tickets. You didn't need a ticket on the return journey.

Now before you all start this is not a dig at anyone on here but the RL media in general.
Having watched the replay of the final and read various articles in the press I feel that there is not enough praise for what Wire have achieved in beating Leeds in the final and doing a double of challenege cup wins.
To come from near the foot of SL when Smith took over from Lowes at Wire in 2009 is a remarkable achievement to be winning back to back at Wembley and sitting joint 2nd in SL.
I just feel that there is an anti Wire bias in the RL media, only Eddie Hemmings in general seems to big us up, the likes of Clarke, Stevo and Woods (on BBC) seem to think Leeds blew it more than Wire won it! If it was Saints or Wigan that had won two Wembley's on the trot people would be shouting for them to be BBC team of the year!!
And Tony Smith, this guy has done a remarkable job and should be coach of the year over McGuire. I am so glad he's at Wire till 2013. But after that I expect an NRL club to pick him up, he deserves the biggest jobs and a chance to prove his worth.
Do you like sex and travel Wendall?

I remember Briers playing for Wales against Australia at Huddersfield in the 2000 WC. He was brilliant, but he did have Iestyn outside him. They played Australia off the park for an hour and then ran out of steam. Can't remember the rest of the team though. I presume Anthony Sullivan was one. It was a brilliant night and I've been a Briers fan every since, he never seems to have fulfilled the potential of that night. Whether it's (up to pres) poor coaching at Warrington or some other reason I couldn't say.

It said Stella on the tap, didn't have to be Stella in the glass I suppose. I must admit I stuck mainly to Pelforth and Leffe whist in France - Estrella in Spain.
