Today's forecast "heavy snow" was a big let down.
Unless you were around Gloucester, in which case you're probably still stranded around the Birdlip Hill area.
Today I had a delivery to do. In Gloucester.
Access via Birdlip from the a436 side, delayed by all of 5 mins, those on the A417, hours and hours and hours....
All we had in duckville was 5 mins sleet....
Duckville? Aylesbury?

What happens if Cameron gets in in May? Who knows what sort of deal he's done to get Murdoch's backing?

In the 1995 semi Hanley spent the entire game running in front of the ball carrier and talking to the ref. In the last ten Molloy had finally had enough of this behaviour and hit Hanley. He was put on report. But if the ref won't sort out a problem what can the players do? I thought we had good value from Steve. But then I think we had good value from most of our "ex Leeds" crew at that time. Ikram, Steve, Carl Gibson, was Maloney playing for us then?

Nah , they wrapped him up in swaddling clothes , there was no mention of a nappy.
There is you know. "a nappy Christmas"

Christmas trees and decorations shouldn't come down until the 12th day of Christmas (6th January)
It brings bad luck if they come down before then ....... Jesus said so.
How could he, he was only 12 days old.

February 1983. I promised my lad to take him to watch Rovers v Batley in the CC 1 st round. It was called off because of snow, so we went to Whitwood Mere instead and saw Hooper Swans - only time I've ever seen one.
The game was played at Belle Vue, the following Wednesday or Thursday, the field may have been playable but the terraces were lethal. I remember a copper falling over and everyone laughing at him  Anyway we won and the rest as they say is history.

The met office forecast a "barbecue summer" and a mild winter. December was the coldest for 13 years, why do they bother?

The flip side to this unusually cold weather for us is that some parts of the World are being bathed in unusual warmth for the time of year.
In Yakutsk they're all pleased because the temperature hasn't once dropped below -35 degrees, which is 10 degrees hotter than normal. Or should that be "less cold" than normal?
From what I've read, the normal British January Atlantic weather systems have slipped southwards, meaning that it's p!ssing it down in the Med, and we get what Norway normally get. I believe it's controlled by the position of the jet stream. It was the movement of the jet stream that caused the wet summer in 2007 apparently.
There was something on TV last year about the winter of 1963. Due to some climate anomoly the normal Atlantic weather systems were blocked from the UK to the west of Ireland and we were locked into the Scandinavian system then too. The freeze lasted from Christmas to March.
I was playing U17 RL and didn't play for nearly three months. Our first game after the freeze was a Dewsbury and Batley U17 Cup game at Staincliffe. Because the frost had broken up the soil the pitch was incredibly muddy. A little kid walked into the centre at half time and got stuck. He had to be lifted out of his wellies

NO adverts, no floodlight towers. Sometime in the sixties -fifties?

Ex Batley and Dewsbury stand-off Danny Thomas????
Did Roger Simpson ever play half back? Big lad though.

What puzzles me about this is why they want to get into bed with us? Newmarket is much nearer Cas than Fev. In fact I would judge it's about equidistant from Wakey and Cas, so why aren't they talking to Cas about a groundshare? At a guess because Cas would give them a two word answer and the second word would be "off" I suggest we should do the same.

"We're in discussions with Featherstone and we would be delighted if they choose to play some of their bigger fixtures at the new stadium.""
Why would we want to do that?

Let's face it, any person whether Black, White Orane or purple can play in any position if he has the talent. Even Jason Robinson turned out a couple of times for Wigan at half back, it doesn't matter what is on the outside it's what's in the inside that matters and that is how I judge a player. So long as he has heart, skill and always does his best, he'll do for me .
TBH I would have said halfback was Jason Robinson's natural position, given his jinking running style.

I must admit I don't remember Carl every playing 6 for us - only for Batley, however Pryce when he can be bothered is an excellent no 6. In September 1984 Fev played Bradford at Odsal in a midweek evening game. Hanley played 6 for Bradford, they won 27-10 - Hanley scored 17 points - effectively winning the game for them. Does that answer the question?
-
Carl Gibson was never a 6 in a million years, all the people mentioned in my opinion are just filler iners at half back. Im not racist or homophobic i couldnt care less who anyone sleeps with or what colour there skin is, and both threads were tounge in cheek to grinde Robin away from his interview revision, although i do reckon my m8 has a point
Carl played 6 for Batley in a Yorkshire cup tie at P O Road in the eighties. Batley were extremely unlucky to lose. Foxy scored the winning try at the P O Road end after what looked like a Union rolling maul, I wouldn't have given it anyway. It was a shame for Batley, Carl ran the game for them.
-
Carl Gibson was brilliant at 6 for Batley. When he moved to Leeds they played him on the wing, presumably they believed the myth. He was brilliant for us at fullback for a season.

After sneering at our railways with "the wrong kind of snow" the French Eurostar trains couldn't cope with the temperature differences outside and inside the Channel Tunnel and broke down!

Agreed. Have you heard her interpretations of Methodist hymns? -I was brought up with them so they do make me feel a little nostalgic.
At the moment I'm listening to the Temperance Seven. I can't explain what it is, whether it's their expert musicianship or just the corn feel of their music but I've got a bit of a fad for them just now.
