  1. You forgot the new "Teachers team" ...seems to me that the RFL are developing "Social league" before the main game.
  2. The amateur scene (where most SL clubs get their talent from excluding the over the hill Aussie imports) is as strong as any in England (see a previous thread about how the young age groups are supplying championship winning sides) but as stated, the demise of both Town and Haven does not attract these youngsters into the local pro game. All they dream about is a SL contract and at the moment quite a few 18 & 19 year old's are at SL clubs. When I was 17 all I wanted to do was pull on a Town shirt ..now they want a Wigan or Bradford shirt. CARLA teams can mix it with the best its a crying shame that all the talent developed by these small village clubs are moving out of the county.
  3. Is that right Dave?? Maybe thats why we lag so behind the major team sports in the UK. RFU Profit before tax increased from a loss of
  4. Played for all three clubs Oh and Carlisle...all this talk of mergers and a Cumbrian SL team will only happen if 1.Town and Haven come to some realistic agreement. 2.Money is pumped into the area to stop all the top youth talent signing for out of county clubs. 3.Small minded fans (200 from each club) realise until they get their heads out of the sand the game at pro level is dead. 4.A neutral ground is developed 5.The RFL give West Cumbria the same development as Wales,France and London 6.Barrow realise they are still part fo Lancashire :D :D
  5. The accounts show that in 2009 the RFL recorded a profit before tax of
  6. Broughton Red Rose kid......Red Rose and Kells where the main clubs back when I was a boy to supply the local pro game. Good to see the local coaching once again bearing fruit.
  7. yep your right That is very very good scouting on Wire at the time (what are we talkign about..mid 80's).....now it sems Bulls and Rhinos have the scouts out in force in WC....
  8. Add Jon Roper to that group and Wire had three good West Cumbrians there. All Jameaters mind you
  9. Cumbrians at Super League clubs (of the top of my head there may be more?) 1.Dowes Hull 2.Purdham Quins 3.Lunt Giants 4 Olstrum Wakefield 5 Donaldson Bulls 6 Mossop Warriors Take out the two pro West Cumbrian sides and there is a lot of young talent in the area which should be developed more. West Cumbria are current Gilette National Youth League (under 18) champions and play off winners. Seven West Cumbrians where in the BARLA Young Lions (under 19) tour of South Africa out of a sqaud of 24.With Ross Gainford caotain. Eight West Cumbrians where selected to tour Russia with the BARLA under 21's. At least two went on the under 23 tour to the Ukraine. Two West cumbrian schools reached the National finals of the Carnegie Champion Schools Whitehaven at year 11,St Benedicts at year 9. The Haven scholarship teams at under 15 & under 16 are more than competing against the likes of Wigan and Warrington. All age groups seem to be producing some good talent in West Cumbria. West Cumbria does not include Barrow and these kids have come through the CARLA set up which only has 16 clubs.
  10. Paley my old mucker "League" is a new word in the dutch language and we have claimed it
  11. Musketiers LEAGUE Club Nootdorp was launched on saturday eveing. YES we have dropped the term rugby,we want no confusion here in Holland and want to let people know we are a LEAGUE club. Three other teams kick off the Grand Prix Nights (GPN's) season on may 1st. Gouda Bearcats LEAGUE club,Capelle Spartans LEAGUE club and Haagland Pacific Island Knights LEAGUE club As the game has a very short history over here we dont think this is a problem and not being associated with the after match pranks that union is known for in Holland, we hope we can attract a better quality of human being. Maybe in the future this will also convince the goverment sports councils (NOC NSF) that LEAGUE is a sport in its own right. Now we have to hope the bond change the only connection still left which is The Nederland RUGBY League Bond. England is different I agree, but over here we feel we can develop better by dropping the word rugby.

  15. Found a great way to keep the car windscreen from freezing over...just leave the snow on...great insulation
  16. Had it heavy in Holland on saturday and sunday.....eased off today but more snow expected this evening. 120 cm (5 inches) deep and with a temperature down to -1 and forcast -5 overnight its playing havoc with the transport and the roads. Im a wee bit worried because our less is due to give birth any time now and we could have trouble getting to the hospital. I have asked her to try and hold on for a few more days
  17. Just in from the pub and now have David Bowie doing a bit from Drive in saturday,All the young dudes,Alladin Sane,Rock and roll suicide etc etc ...TFF You Tube....a good mix of early Bowie with no need to change the record player/tape/DVD. NICE
