  1. Finished this - a very good read. Now dipping into Victor Lewis-Smith's entertainingly poisonous compilation 'TV Reviews'. Included is this gag: "As part of the overall settlement, Paul McCartney bought Heather a plane. Although I think she still uses a razor for the other leg."
  2. Possibly the apogee of MTV-era hubris, topping even Duran Duran's Wild Boys? . Crikey, he's the black Vanilla Ice! Cameos up the wazoo, from James Belushi to (via Milli Vanilli) James Brown... none of them could save this.
  3. At 10pm tonight on ITV4, 'Road', a documentary about road-racing legend Joey Dunlop and his family.
  4. Eegah, a truly dreadful mashup between the teen and caveman genres. Richard 'Jaws' Kiel plays the title role, but the biscuit is taken by the two teen leads, who stink the celluloid up something rotten.
  5. A history of the Rainbow Theatre I may have certain qualms about the religious beliefs of the Universal Church of the Kingdom of God, but if I had a theatre that needed restoration, I'd be on the blower to them right away!
  6. Don't forget to download the Rugby Union Calculator app.
  7. From the vaults, Kenny Everett's first television series Nice Time, co-presented by Germain Greer and Jonathan 'Candid Camera' Routh. Odd, but quite fun in its own way.
  8. The real trouble is the bootlegs and other unofficial bits'n'pieces. Those, and the compilations, can be real devils to track down.
  9. Autotagging still creates work, as the online databases are made up of data submitted by the lazy or semi-literate. I do sometimes use cddb, musicbrainz etc., but then I have to go through and correct plenty of it before it is usable. So a bit of automatic looking up and a bit more manual work. There weren't any tracks without artist, track or album tags, but a lot was missing release dates and/or correct cover art. Foobar allows you to write metadata to filenames and vice versa, so once it is all correct, I rename the files, then do a dynamic range scan and apply replaygain. The Discogs site is useful for getting information on most titles.
  10. Uninteresting and trivial: I just edited the metadata on about 350 albums on my hard drive.
  11. He might well have hooked up with Difford & Tilbrook from them doing the music for a forthcoming comedy drama that Peter Kay is in, playing Danny Baker's dad. And I will watch at least one episode of that, good or bad, just to see what Peter's Sarf Lahndan accent is like. He is supposed to be a bit of a perfectionist - check out the little details of 'Car Share' like the throwaway comment from Forever FM. Or the poster seen at the roadside in one episode.
  12. 1945: The Savage Peace. Worth watching on iPlayer. Grim stuff, but fascinating.
  13. The couple from the cover of the 'Woodstock', still together after all these years.
  14. I suppose it would have been a downer on the city's mood for Magic Weekend if Newcastle had been relegated.
  15. Is that Hull Tigers I see going down?
  16. Oh, excellent! There's a documentary about the making of 'Manos: the Hands of Fate'. Possibly the very worst film ever made.
  17. Isn't it annoying when someone you don't like does something that you do like?
  18. I've never even heard of that film. Must give it a try. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7llb8mTynzU
  19. ABC - The Lexicon of Love, plus 'When Smokey sings' from the Alphabet City album. Some wonderful pop/soul tracks.
  20. If you haven't got these TD albums already, try 'Force majeure' or the 'Thief' soundtrack.
  21. I'm not always in the mood for it, but sometimes, when you have the time, a bit of TD just lets you swim in the sounds.
