Thanks to a radio archive website, I'm working my way through all of David Quantick's 'Blaggers Guide' programmes. Very funny.

Unfortunately, that's not an uncommon mindset. There are those who think that only born-and-bred Northerners deserve Rugby League and that nobody else can possibly be a 'true' fan or hold a valid opinion on the sport. The whole wording of this petition could not be better designed to be ignored by the RFL. It comes across as paranoid, backward-looking and entirely negative.

I listened to this match on Radio 5 and reckoned Warrington were going to win after Wigan didn't make enough of their opponents' appalling ball retention in the first half. I suppose it keeps the top of the table close, but still a bit disappointing.

Although he seems to have already returned to RU, signing for the new Melbourne Rebels franchise.

Reason enough, in that one post, why a time machine absolutely must be invented. That'd be one hell of a team to watch if you assembled them in their prime. Interesting that none of the Wigan selections so far have included Brett Kenny. I remember 2GB had a phone-in on all-time best selections. One guy rang in with his selection for the Hunter Mariners.

Plenty of good points there. I remember watching the last Yorks v Lancs/Cheshire/Greater Manchester and it was terrible, with a poor turnout and a mediocre spectacle on the field. Remember, also, that when State of Origin was first suggested, it was derided by just about everyone as a gimmicky concept that would never work. And maybe if that first match hadn't been such a classic, it might have withered away like the War of the Roses. So there's a bit of luck involved, because you can't guarantee a classic match ahead of the event. Failing everything else, get the whole England squad together, appoint two captains and let 'em pick the teams, school playground style. Winner of the coin toss gets first pick, then they alternate.

A little from column 'A', a little from column 'B'. Recent events have shown there is some problem, at whatever level, but he's got a massive chip on his shoulder about not getting to play for the Kangaroos. And he's a rentagob, who can't help shooting his mouth off, whether he has something worth saying or not.

This book might interest you (and others). It covers Spain by region, with stunning photography, interesting stuff about Spanish food and culture, as well as recipes. Borders had some of the 'Culinaria' collection on sale, before they closed down, and I still regret not buying more volumes in the series while they were cheap.
