  1. Listening to the album 'Comedy' by Paul Kelly & the Messengers, I'd completely forgotten there was a hidden track at the end. After the end of the last listed song, there's a longish gap, then the band kicks off a (possibly beer-fuelled) singalong of "One David Gower, there's only one David Gower", which starts off to the tune of 'Guantanamera' before sliding into 'I'll find my Way Home' by Jon & Vangelis. I'm assuming, as Paul Kelly is Australian, this is a tribute to the Tiger Moth incident, rather than Gower's batting skills.
  2. Woohoo! I've just read that the Jayhawks have reformed! :)
  3. I have a mental image of Ben Gunn from 'Treasure Island'.
  4. Saturday's trip to the second-hand record shop yielded the following: Edgar Winter - Entrance/White Trash Louis Jordan - Choo choo ch'Boogie (Compilation) Richie Havens - The Great Blind Degree The Brothers Johnson - Winners
  5. David Bowie & Dana Gillespie - Bowpromo1. Very odd to hear someone other than The Dame singing 'Andy Warhol'. Levon Helm - Dirt Farmer. Nat 'King' Cole - The very Thought of you. J.Geils Band - Full House Live. Sly & Robbie - A Dub Experience.
  6. Who says there are odd folk on the internet? Birds with Arms.
  7. I used to hate Kraftwerk with a passion when I was young - some half-baked notion of it not being 'real' because it was all keyboards, sequencers and computers. Embarrassing, when I look back on it. The live version of 'Radioactivity' on Minimum/Maximum is also fantastic.
  8. Gil Scott-Heron, Brian Jackson & the Midnight Band, live from Berkeley, 1978 (downloaded from the Dime a Dozen site). Decent quality, apart from some channel balance problems in the early tracks.

  11. Soft Machine - Volume 2. My first Soft Machine album, and I like it a lot. I bought it after reading Stephen Mejias' excellent description (scroll down to the paragraph starting with the words "side 1"). I reckon he's spot on - a good bit of writing.
  12. I've just discovered that I live about 5 bus stops from a good second-hand record shop. Quite embarrassing that I've only just found it, seeing as it's so close and had obviously been there for years. But it is on a street which I normally would have no reason or need to go along. Anyhoo, me being a fool, said boutique soon parted me from my money, in exchange for the following: Candi Staton - Chance LaBelle - Nightbirds Marilyn McCoo & Billy Davis Jr - Marilyn & Billy Mike Nesmith - Loose Salute Mike Nesmith - Magnetic South Mott the Hoople - Rock and Roll Queen Nuggets: Original Artyfacts from the first Psychedelic Era (can't believe it has taken me so long to get round to buying this) Ry Cooder - Showtime Sir Douglas Quintet - Mendocino Tangerine Dream - Thief The Brothers Johnson - Right on Time 'Til Tuesday - Everything's different now ZZ Top - Eliminator
  13. Led Zep II is a fine fine thing, although Robert Plant squealing about Gollum is a bit cringey and dated.
