A rich university is going to bring more prosperity to the people who live in and around Huddersfield than a rugby team. No idea why you would be angry at a thriving uni.

Six Leeds players does suggest a level of domination that I can't quite see reflected in the final league table. But all of the players selected have had a good years and a big impact so I'm not sure why some Wigan fans are throwing a wobbler.

The OP had it right really. I'd also agree Toulouse have just been a nose ahead of York, although both have played excellent refreshing rugby. Their points difference is more than 100 points better than York: they haven't conceded 50+ in any game and have been in a lot of games they ultimately lost, including of course that golden point game v Leigh. I think best of the rest would have to be Arthur, Powell, and Burgess, who have all meaningfully achieved improvement v 2025.

I have been thinking about this a fair bit recently as I help coach an u8s team which currently plays tag rugby but should start some form of contact next year. I have phrased it like that because the communications from the RFL about what is due to happen next year are utterly dire and every coach I speak to has a different understanding of what will happen. Anyway, the kids that I coach (and that they play against) are not going to stick around playing tag/touch until they are 14. They will be lost to the game as they want to be playing 'proper rugby' now. Secondly, I don't believe that banning them from playing contact rugby will reduce to zero their chances of repetitive collisions or brain injuries: these are young kids (mostly boys but some girls) who like rough games and making the odd daft choice. So I don't think there is a zero-risk option, or if there is it will have other health costs if kids end up playing computer games or staring at screens instead. I agree with a graduated approach: in RL it seems like the generation of kids I deal with will go from 0 to 60 over one winter.

Good luck to him. I thought he was on a two-year deal and that was part of his reasoning for joining York. He has certainly been a great addition to Super League and hasn't looked like time is catching up with him on the field.

I don't put the failure of the 8s down to loop fixtures. I put it down to the same reason we have poor crowds for playoff games up to the Grand Final, and for Challenge Cup matches. People travel further to attend games than they did 30 years ago, and even further still than they did 50+ years ago. And there is rightly more pressure on men to spend time with their families or doing domestic stuff than there was 30 or 50 years ago. And kick off times are much less predictable. All this and a few other factors add up to any games that are organised at a few days' or weeks' notice are either a faff to attend or impossible, and the 8s created a scenario where a third of the season was planned out with two weeks' notice. Complete mess. Anyway have we got a broadcast deal yet?
