Yes, it was vital we solved the Salford situation quickly and had a rapid strategic review into the wider game.
Thank goodness those things happened, we’d be in a right old mess if it had been just left to drag on with no conclusion on either front.
Meanwhile we've made a pretty long list of random individual decisions that seem to cause as many issues than they solve:
- Scrapping DR for 1-week loans
- 14 team Super League, with diversion of Ashes profits apparently paying the bill
- 21 team Champo, with the scrapping of the League 1 playoffs as a Brucie Bonus
- No internationals until October 2026
- Massive increase in overseas quota
- Complete overhaul of NCL that few people seem to want

Thanks.
Whilst I understand its importance, that’s absolutely the wrong place for a museum.
Whats the right place?

The RFL has done anything but nothing, which doesn't necessarily mean that doing nothing would have been the right thing.
Is this from Nigel's forthcoming letter to Sport England?

This keeps being quoted lucky, who have you got in mind that devalues the SL team they play for, an honest question.

Brighouse Spoons, a month or so back. He was telling anyone who'd listen.

I think this strategic review might need to cover transparency and external communications.

I'm not arguing for or against it here but it got me interested and i asked Mr GPT to come up with 2 teams. I would definitely pay to watch this game (And i know it needs abit of fine tuning - ChatGPT isn't the best at picking on form - abit like someone else we know...)
Position
Yorkshire XIII
Lancashire XIII
Fullback
Will Pryce (Huddersfield)
Jack Welsby (Wigan)
Wing 1
Tom Johnstone (Wakefield)
Liam Marshall (Wigan)
Centre 1
Harry Newman (Huddersfield)
Mark Percival (Widnes)
Centre 2
Ash Handley (Leeds)
Toby King (Warrington)
Wing 2
Lewis Martin (Hull)
Josh Charnley (Warrington)
Stand-off
Jake Connor (Huddersfield)
George Williams (Wigan)
Scrum-half
Mikey Lewis (Hull)
Harry Smith (Wigan)
Prop 1
Mikolaj Oledzki (Leeds)
Luke Thompson (St Helens)
Hooker
Kruise Leeming (Halifax)
Daryl Clark (Warrington)
Prop 2
George King (Huddersfield)
Matty Lees (St Helens)
Second Row 1
Cameron Smith (Leeds)
Junior Nsemba (Wigan)
Second Row 2
Liam Sutcliffe (Leeds)
Ben Currie (Warrington)
Loose Forward
Morgan Gannon (Leeds)
James Harrison (Warrington)
Toby King, Daryl Clark and James Harrison would all be Yorkshire players, not Lancashire.
Replace with Hanley, Walker and Halton respectively, move Currie to 13. Replace Charnley with Ashton. I'd have Thewlis over Marshall but that's a taste-and-fancy choice.

The new club should be up and running now. Be prepared to play out of a shed until access to the ground they want is sorted. Even run in competition.
Not every phoenix club in (ahem) other sports has waited until the formal death of the previous.
They've actually got a nice drafty shed at Salford City Roosters (5 mins from Salford's current ground), where I did my coaching training. Get it going.

You just never know what the future holds no matter how bleak things look. I came across this again the other day, a classic example of how things can improve…
This is a silly input but the preview pic reminded me of this video. Which in itself reflects the handling of the Salford situation over the past 12 months.

We have to take Wood at his word that England won't play again until October.
Then again, it is ever so good of him to once again pre-empt a review which in this case might well recommend that England play someone in-season in 2026. It's clownish.
Anyway, I am a supporter of the idea that we fit some rep rugby in somehow and if we are scared of small crowds in big stadiums, let's put small crowds in small stadiums and make it a feature not a bug.
I'm actually still furious at how nonchalantly he revealed that yesterday.

As an English Rugby League fan, I am so glad we beat New Zealand, Samoa and Tonga the last time we played each of them in a series. It really takes the edge off the fact they are better than us.
They were all playing in first gear I think.

In the past David, when I can be bothered I will list the Samoa team that played on Sunday and the English team that played on Saturday and we can do a comparison player by player.
Were Saturday and Sunday not in the past? What about today, Wednesday?

Apparently* HMRC asked: "Have you got any money? Are you going to pay your tax bill?"
Only for Salford's lawyers to reply: "Why do you need to know NOW? We will tell you when we are good and ready."
This was good enough for the tribunal.
*might not have happened

Well that didn't even last as long as I thought. Financially it does make sense and is a bit of a windfall for the RFL:
Exclusive: Talks are underway to ensure the Ashes is hosted by the UK again in 2028, not by Australia.
Originally, International Rugby League (IRL) had planned for the Ashes to be staged in Australia in three years.
But the success of the 2025 Ashes in England, which included more than 130,000 tickets sold and TV ratings close to three million on the BBC, has led powerbrokers to consider an Ashes return to Britain in 2028.
With the Kangaroos dominating England 3-0 this year, there are also fears Australia would struggle to fill stadiums at home for a tour by the English.
But the Kangaroos have been a hit on British shores and have won plaudits for their community engagement with English fans.
rugbyleaguehub.com Long Reads understands RFL figures are interested in having the green and gold back to tour in 2028.
New Zealand is expected to tour and play England in England in 2027, a year after the World Cup.
IRL chairman Grant told rugbyleaguehub.com Long Reads that it was down to the RFL and the ARLC to determine who hosts the Ashes.
"As a Bi-Lateral series and not a tournament it’s a matter for both nations, not the IRL," he said.
We would sanction the internationals no matter the location, whatever is best for the game if both countries agreed.
"The yearning is growing here for England to play here, especially in Sydney, but we will see."

Well at least we have got to the part where Australia make excuses for not making an effort much quicker this time.

Yes and he says as much. No rush, who gives a toss really.
In fact in the unedited version of the video he says: "Why do you need to know NOW? How does it affect you if you don't know NOW?"

This may seem mean spirited, but this group.seem a bit weird. They seem far better at holding others to account than the fans themselves who were meant to own the club.
You can't fault their energy but that letter is going straight in the bin.
As you say, they'd be better getting some advice on whether the sale of the club was legal in the first place.

Do we have a calendar for when the new calendars will be announced?
No but we have a timeline for a first draft of the terms of reference.

Hmm. I've seen more discarded cycles than Amsterdam central station, so I will let others get excited.
The fact that we are instituting a new 4 year cycle for the Ashes, with the next one in three years, is so rugby league it hurts.
