  1. Cliff I fell in love with the French game through your words on here and in Treiziste Diary, absolutely brilliant coverage and colour. When I visited Treiziste France for the first time this summer, the places I visited were enlivened by the stories and information you have provided over many years. The column will be sadly missed but I look forward to reading your contributions on here for a long time to come. All the best Mark
  2. Bitofaboogie, is that you? Go on, tell us something about the special relationship. There are a number of choices. Wingers should never be MOS though.
  3. Hall and Dobson are bizarre choices and you get the feeling they were thrown in desperately to cover up the dearth of talent in Yorkshire. However, Danny McGuire would have been a fair pick. I see Roby's still the darling of whoever it is who makes these decisions. MOS?
  4. Maybe it was, maybe it wasn't, but Hull had put themselves in a position to win the game in spite of it. If they had held their nerve in midfield and got a few safe kicks downfield they'd have won. Radford is pretty useless in any event.
  5. Nah. He probably made a wrong call on Radford, but when you punch someone three times and split their eye open you're giving the ref a reason to send you off. Hull played well, but got away with a number of knock-ons where Smith said it went backwards (the first play of the game, for one). It was a difficult game to referee. Hull didn't lose because of the extra man, but because of the poor quality of their passing - Horne and Long threw some shockers.
  6. Truly pathetic stuff, wholly typical of your crew.
  7. This is a surprisingly worthwhile point from Wilkin. Perhaps he's got nothing left to moan about.
  8. Think we will sneak through in a high-scoring game, don't see us getting enough to get second. Not a big loss really, it's not like we gain much of a home advantage against St Helens.
  9. Seriously, is this what TotalRL is now? EDITED BY CKN: REMOVED QUOTED POST
  10. It was... actually quite good. Decent bit of analysis (way short of what we'd like to can see, but better than it used to be), pretty good feature on JJB and Paul Wood, and a great piece on Garry Purdham and the England-Cumbria game. The last bit was the sort of thing that made you proud to be part of the game, fantastic stuff all round. Oh, and well done Hunslet.
  11. Pat Richards is a fine winger, and often talked about as some sort of RL God on this forum. Appearances 26 Tackles 75 (against Riley's 106) Missed tackles 15 Errors 24 Much difference? No - so kindly pull your head out of your Aussie-loving *rse. Now let's compare with some of the players who will be picked ahead of Riley this autumn. Peter Fox Tries 12 Missed Tackled 37 Errors 30 Try Assists 0 (Riley 5) Ryan Hall Tries 23 Tackles 100 Missed tackles 20 Errors 39 Adie Gardner Tries 14 Tackles 63 Missed tackles 9 Errors 20 Tom Briscoe Tries 13 Tackles 93 Missed tackles 14 Errors 15 I would suggest that taking those figures as a (very rough) guide, Riley compares well with any British winger in the league - Tom Briscoe's stats are good, in two fewer games than Riley. Riley, however, gets over the whitewash the most, despite having played outside Atkins for less than a full season. So, please, STFU and get behind a young Warrington-born, Warrington-produced player fighting his guts out for his hometown club.
  12. What about West Yorkshire pride? Gledhill's already declared himself firmly behind Leeds.
  13. Agreed, we need to go back to the days when refs gave forward passes they hadn't seen.
  14. I wasn't actually having a go at anyone (strange as it seems on an internet forum), was just making a general point. Riley has certainly made a few errors this season in defence, but I think that's because he's been concentrating on improving his finishing. All in all we've had a net positive from that, I think.
  15. Ditto Hull. Only a point ahead of Huddersfield. Hudds will finish 5th if they win, it seems to me.
  16. Would be very surprised to see some of the line-ups mentioned on here Mathers Hicks King Atkins Riley Briers Myler Morley Monaghan Carvell L Anderson Westwood Harrison Clarke Wood Solomona Cooper
  17. Riley is a very good player in a position that, these days, is as difficult as any on the field. While he does make the odd mistake, I'd be pleased to learn which winger doesn't, and his speed is an invaluable asset. Riley made one mistake that cost a try on Friday, and scored two of absolute quality due to his speed and positioning. Really enjoyed Friday's game, thought Hull really gave a good account of themselves with limited manpower (for about the fifth season in a row at this time of year - I'd love to know what conditioning work they do ). Even without Briers, we brought plenty of class to the table and it was a perfect workout the week before Wembley.
  18. He'll be a good signing for somebody. Not a flashy Saints winger, but a very powerful one who can score tries.
  19. My personal favourite moment was from that Huddersfield drop-out: Fielden picks it up, starts charging upfield to a roar from the Wigan faithful towards the Hudds pack and Eddie screams something like "Here we go!". Only for Fielden to see what's coming, change direction completely and run straight at Luke Robinson.
  20. Squeaky bum time round Widnes, their fans are having kittens on RLFans too.
  21. Absolutely, Sean O'Loughlin has that role patented.
  22. I don't think they have TVs in Bar F
