  1. If not there ought to be. It's either dissent or time wasting, and should be penalised. I remember watching a Northern-Cas game at Odsal back in the sixties. The Cas loose forward hoofed the ball in frustration right to the other end of the pitch after an infringement. The ref made him fetch it back, he looked about six inches tall by the time he got back.
  2. I don't really have an issue with the sending off, if you punch a bloke several times you are asking for a red card, even a bloke as deserving as Bailey of being punched. The problem for me is that Ian Smith didn't seem to think elbowing an opponent in the head three times is also a sending off offence. Two red cards would have been about right. Having said all that, the better side lost.
  3. Bailey showed how stupid he is in the Cup Final. One on one with a man half his size, a metre from the line and he failed to score. All he had to do was step to his right and there's no way Mathers could have stopped him, instead he had to play the big man, veered into Mathers trying to run over him, and gave Mathers and Anderson the opportunity to get underneath the ball. Deeply stupid play at a key moment in the match.
  4. Smith doing all he can for Leeds since half time.
  5. Actually that's a very clear and concise description of how the law should be applied, and I believe it's pretty much identical in Union.
  6. Born in Torquay, South Devon, as I understand it. This was well known during his spell at Bradford, not sure how he'd be classed now for quota purposes, but I'd have been quite happy to see him back at Odsal.
  7. I don't remember seeing him do anything physically taxing enough to get injured. What's really worrying is that he's got another year on his contract.
  8. What odds can I get for a 0 - 0 draw? This Bulls team is not capable of winning, so I reckon that's the best we can hope for.
  9. He very rarely misses a home game unless filming commitments prevent him.
  10. Wouldn't surprise me, given the kind of physical trauma Jamie's played through in the past.
  11. Enjoyed that. Interesting that Bradford and Leeds were both heavily involved with the introduction of SA players during that time. Unfortunately, as the article mentions, Bradford were in desperate straits at the time, so those lads probably never got the rewards and exposure they deserved. I remember some of those players very well, Abed was a decent goal kicker and also played Bradford League cricket, Haase didn't seem to be with us all that long. I saw Rosenberg a few times, he played for Leeds in the 1961 Championship Final at Odsal (my dad worked on the gate and I got in for nowt). Another South African who played for us around 64-65 was Mick Brown, decent full back or wing. I wonder what happened to him? I recall he got injured the week before the 65 Yorkshire Cup Final and Jack Scattergood took his place for Northern's memorable final win. Good memories.
  12. Atkins went to Wakey on loan when Hape and Ben Harris were the Bulls' centres. He then got offered a permanent move and took it. Can't blame anybody really, just unfortunate timing from the Bulls' point of view. Chris Bridge was a mess and was sacked after his umpteenth breach of discipline, which I believe involved simply failing to turn up for a match. Several years on and he seems to have finally grown up a bit.
  13. That'll bring the disaffected thousands flooding back. Sadly I couldn't go tonight. Was much else said or was it just another load of excuses and promises of better things tomorrow?
  14. Mick gets a lot of stick on here for his comments about refs and he certainly does go OTT at times, but for the benefit of those who weren't there today, I can tell you Mick's comments are largely justified. Child was almost indescribably bad and was certainly responsible for at least three Catalan tries by giving inexplicable penalties. My mate, who has played a lot of RL and very rarely criticises referees, felt today's game would have been better with no ref at all. I can't remember any game where players were so often penalised in possession, or for dissent, the whole thing descended into farce well before half time with Child inventing new and exciting reasons to blow his whistle almost every minute. It was even worse than Rugby Union. Having said that, Bradford lost the game themselves, Catalans didn't win it. Having gone in front for the first time in months, it was entirely predictable that the team would implode and toss it away, as they duly did. Catalans were p*ss poor and a decent team would have hit them for fifty, but Bradford are by no stretch of the imagination a decent team.
  15. Dozens of fantastic memories covering more than five decades but one of the best has to be 4th November 2006, Nobby's team kicking the Aussies' ***** at Aussie Stadium. The Leon Pryce tribute song, 'I'd rather be in Blackpool than Bondi' Singing 'we can see you sneaking out' when 12000 miles from home. Got p*ss wet through and couldn't have cared less. Great night.
  16. Halley's dad died a couple of weeks ago aged only 52, that's why he was missing last week. Presumably he put his hand up to play tonight and Sheriffe was dropped, but Dave certainly didn't look as if his mind was on the game. Having said that I just feel he's too small for the modern game, never beats a tackle and his defence these days is woeful. Can't help feeling he could be on his way soon, especially with the promise shown by Vinnie Finnegan.
  17. Carvell can take a lot of the credit for that try. Idiot.
  18. Returning to Odsal was not a decision as such, it was always the intention. The club only moved to VP to allow necessary work to be carried out on Odsal. The stay at VP was extremely damaging to the club. Attendances fell dramatically for several reasons, most of which have been aired at length on here, and many of those lost supporters have never returned. It completely derailed the Bullmania thing because VP offers no space or facilities for the family activities which were so much a feature of it, and those families were the very people the club needed to keep interested in order to build its future fanbase. I don't think you'd find too many supporters keen to make a permanent home at VP, and quite frankly, it's not suitable for Rugby League anyway.
  19. Does Garth Budge still live around here? I could have sworn I sat next to him in the opticians a couple of years ago, though why would you choose Bradford over Queensland? I suppose he could have a doppelganger.
  20. As ever, your erudite contribution is much appreciated.
  21. As has been said before, it's not the young lads who keep making the idiotic mistakes, it's the likes of Paul Sykes. That man will never make a stand off as long as he's got an orifice in his rear end.
