  1. Another Mighty White taken by the a Good Lord. I can only imagine that the a Good Lord wanted to strengthen the defence in his team of all white so took Norman and Trevor. This now means that the Good Lord can make a tactical change and move John Charles up front.
  2. What people conveniently forget about that qualifying group is that against Wales at Wembley England were 1-0 down until Hunter - playing in midfield - smashed in a screamer to rescue a draw. Then in Poland a bad mistake by Bobby Moore gave the Poles their second goal that killed off the game and made the final game against the Poles one we had to win. P.S. In the away game against Poland, Alan Ball was sent off for ‘grabbing Lewslaw Cmikiewicz by the throat and kneeing him in the groin after a player scuffle’. Those were the day!
  3. When I watch the Prima Donna Divers that play today taunting a defender - who is scared to try to tackle them in case they get sent off - by stepping over the ball a few times I fantasise that either Hunter, Harris or Smith (Tommy) materialise in front of them and dispatch them into row Z.
  4. God bless you Norman. Another one of my heroes gone.
  5. Thanks Bob for giving me one of the greatest afternoons of my life.
  6. The tiny ball of toothpaste that you put on your toothbrush is called a ‘nurdle’. Except in Featherstone where teeth and toothpaste are both optional ??
  7. That’s a great gesture. I remember a few years ago having a chat on Facebook with an old work colleague from Wakefield MDC. He said his son was to be a mascot at a forthcoming Leeds United match and it cost something like £200 for the pleasure. I was staggered that in this day of multi million pound tv deals that people actually paid for their kids to be a mascot. I always thought parents put their kids name forward for free and names were drawn at random.
  8. I’d forgot about that. Used to use it when we first got here and stayed with wife’s relatives that lived near the Paradise interchange. Last year a young P plater accidentally drove his mothers car down the O-Bahn and got the car lodged in the track. It was just before the morning rush hour ???
  9. My ‘I am going to die’ transport memory goes back to 1986 when Cas played Halifax in the Charity Shield in the Isle of Man. We were at the docks in Douglas waiting to board the Ferry back to Heysham and it was blowing a howling gale with heavy rain. Only our Ferry was given permission to leave. The boat was bobbing up and down so violently it was just like the opening credits from Noah and Nelly aboard the Skylark. I was that afraid of the boat capsizing that I sat on the top deck in the driving rain for the entire journey.
  10. Shame that if Mugabe goes to hell he won’t feel the heat as Thatcher made the Devil put the fire out!
  11. The Raiders pack got the better of the Eels last night. Whitehead and Bateman were as reliable as ever and Hodgson steered the team around with ease. But the surprise for me is how well Ryan Sutton has performed so far.
  12. Why not introduce a bit of jeopardy into extra time? After 5 minutes of extra time the ref should blow his whistle to stop the game. Players from both teams get together in pairs and play best of 3 rock, paper, scissors. The players that lose have to go off. Next goal winner!
  13. Cheers Allora thats the photo I was referring to. In all the years that I have watched many, many sports I have never seen anyone look like they gave absolutely everything like Price in this picture.
  14. Tried to find my favourite RL photo but failed. It was of Ray Price slumped absolutely shattered on floor in the dressing room after a game. I have never again seen such an image where someone looks so utterly exhausted after giving their all. I am sure it was in a Aussie rugby magazine from the 1980's.
  15. Nice one RB. But take it a step further like I do. Grab a few packets of Durex then drop a packet into an unattended trolley. Then watch them as they start putting their groceries onto the conveyor belt. The look on their face as they hold up the packet and look at it from all angles is priceless. Even better if they are with their partner. ???
  16. I want to knock over the the three step sprint pedestrian!!!!!!! We have all seen them. You are driving along a straight road with no vehicle in front of you. In the distance there is a pedestrian wanting to cross the road. The pedestrian looks, wants to step out, but decides to stay put. You get 50 yards away and the pedestrian is still hesitant but stays put. You then get a lot closer and then the pedestrian finally decides to cross the road. So they sprint the first 3 steps - to show they at least made an effort to cross quickky - then they revert to a slow walk making you slam the anchors on. God I hate them!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  17. Do you live in Darwin? The weather presenter must have the easiest job in the world. They just have two lines to say ..... in the dry season they say 'It is 32 centigrade and it is sunny' and in the wet season it is '32 centigrade and raining'.
  18. Looked out of the window this morning and was dissapointed that there was no snow clouds ..... perhaps the 38c temperature outside had something to do with it. It's quite toast in Adelaide today?
  19. Here is a coincidence. A week ago I was trawling through the on-demand films on Foxtel and came across a film titled Child 44. I was just about to watch it when my daughter asked if I could give her a lift home. So I didnt watch it. But, a couple of days later I saw a copy of the book Child 44 and bought it. Read about 50 pages and wow what a great read. The cold, unflinching brutality of the Soviet system is truly shocking. P.s. No spoilers please.
  20. I am currently reading for the second time The Coldest Winter by David Hamberstam about how America was sucked into the Korean War; how the American Army had been dismantled after 1945 and was in no fit state to act as the worlds Policeman; and a detailed i sight into the protaganists. It is illuminating how the American Army, especially McArthur denigrated the fighting ability of the North Korean army ..... so nothing much has changed over the last 60 years or so!
  21. All week the Sports news shows and RL shows have spoke about this, never mind the media columns. Its been massively hyped and it has been great to watch. I put the TV on about 10 minutes before kick off and there was Gus Gould doing a pre recorded interview with all 4 of them. All 4 appear made for TV with their relaxed style and not one 'you know' uttered. They spoke about their upbringing, their parents, how they always wanted to play in the same team. They each came across as genuine lads who are level headed. The interview must have lasted 7-8 minutes. Julie Burgess's celebration when Luke scored was great TV. What was also fantastic to see was to see her being escorted across the pitch at the end by Freddy Fittler whilst being interviewed by him. Then all 5 git together to celebrate on the oitch whilst being interviewed together. Top stuff.
  22. Ok. Let's be hypothetical. Imagine that either Salford or London (or both) get relegated next season and clubs retain their wealthy backers. That Toulouse are admitted to the Championship and bring big investment as well. Imagine if Fev sell some of the land they own and/or Feisal puts money into them. So for the 2015 season you have 4 clubs that will be big hitters in the Championship. Your preferred choice of 2x10 will mean one club is promoted. The other 3 clubs will then be battling against the club relegated from SL in 2015 for promotion in 2016. How long will investors choose to be associated with a club that just misses out on promotion? The one up one down may lead to the scenario where Widnes overspent With the 3 x 8 system ithere is a chance that all 4 clubs may be promoted (a long shot i grant you, but nevertheless a possibility) or no clubs go up. But the following season all 4 clubs ( plus the others) know they don't have to finish top of the league to have a shot at promotion. So IMHO it enables clubs to grow responsibly.
  23. You missed my point. My point is not about a quick fix and how can you base an argument when London spend about £1.5 million more than Fev or Sheffield The new proposal (if left in place for 3/4 years) should enable the likes of Fev and Sheffield to improve the playing ability by having more competitive matches against the likes of Cas, Wakey, Bradford etc. This should improve attendances, bring in more income, help clubs improve their off field operations, attract investors and give the clubs a better chance of beating current SL clubs. Investors can be good for the game providing the investment (not just in monetary terms) is in developing long term structures withina club.
  24. Well the milkman who visited our house must have come from outside Yorkshire as i am not such a miserable sod and have a totally different view! I will make my point by using the league placings after round 24. So at the end of 2014 London, Salford are relegated to the Championship. And after the 22 league games of 2015 London, Salford, Sheffield and Fev qualify for the middle 8 play offs along with Cas, Wakey, widnes and Bradford. That should be a very competitive play off. But, the key to making this work is to encourage closing the gap between the SL and the Championship. So it is essential that the SKY money that currently goes to the 13th and 14th team of SL is distributed to the teams in the Championship. I would also have a SC of £1 million for the Championship (hark at those spluttering whilst supping their tea). OK some teams will never spend close to this but that is not the point. i.e. Using the above scenario this lets David Hughes reduce his investment at a level to grow London sustainably, also Mr Nahaboo may pump more money into Fev. If Salford are relegated it lets Mr Koucash use his financial muscle. This may also open the opportunity for a consortium from Sheffield? Don't lets ever have a SC in the Championship that panders to mediocrity. .
  25. Whenever change is mooted those against are always more vociferous than those who either accept change or aren't really bothered about which way forward is chosen. But it would be interesting to read why Celtic voted for it. They coud play in a sunday morning pub league and still get a capacity crowd .... So why did they think it was a good thing? Was it because they saw how it may strengthen Scottish football as a whole?
