  1. Looks like Tom Forber will be on the bench as signed on loan from Wigan, he's a really good hooker.
  2. Hopefully team is: Cresswell Shaw Costello Toal Bulman Walker Johnston Walker Wood Silva Stack Greenwood Wilkinson Emslie Rothwell Clarke Jackson I'm guessing Smith and Burke won't be fit after last week. Bulman appears to be training so hopefully he is fit. Jackson for cover on the bench for hooker and halves. Who was the lad who came on at prop against Wakefield? He looked quite a handful. Maybe tempted to put him on the bench for a bit of size. Game will be won up the middle Friday. Forecast a lot of rain so it's going to be a tough one.
  3. Barrow were missing a lot of strike players. 2 top try scorers from last season Broadbent and Bulman were unavailable which meant putting a dual reg amateur on the wing (he did score twice to be fair). We were also missing Stack and Greenwood who score a lot of tries from second row. Harvey Makin (young prop) played 60 minutes at second row when Charlie Emslie got injured. Wakefield looked well drilled and organized on their line but it will be interesting to see if their line holds against better back lines. If they can then they will be very formidable. I'm a big fan of Wakefield pitch also. I've seen games across all levels (particularly super league) and think they have been a worse quality due to the pitch being too heavy but we managed to see some good fast rugby yesterday.
  4. Wakefield came out at a ridiculous pace to go 12-0 but after that their forwards seemed to tire a bit and Barrow competed very well and controlled a lot of game particularly in the second half. Wakefield had significantly better players in their spine and out wide hence were always a threat but Barrows scramble defence was very good. Barrow fans have come away pretty happy. I genuinely think our side is going under the radar this year particularly in the pack.

    1895 cup

Beaten 30 - 12. We had a shocking first 5 minutes going down 12-0 but we competed with Wakefield for a good 75 minutes and had periods of dominance. Pack was outstanding and kicking in the second half was superb along with our defence. We have a good side here, there was a lot to like about today's performance.
  6. I'd say so. Their signings could go down as having the worst debuts collectively in super league history.
  7. This game feels massive, I'm unsure if it's someone putting pressure on SKY to up their game (IMG or RFL) but it's absolutely fantastic to see.
  8. Sam Tomkins and Kyle Amor are significant improvements to the sky line up. Build up to the game has been great.
  9. Would have been a lot of work for minimal reward but I suppose every little helps.
  10. He's just trying to wind people up. No disrespect to the players who finished the game today but Oldham had significantly more quality on the pitch at the final whistle. Most of our quality was in the stands. Full strength I think we beat Oldham, but after 60 minutes 8 or 9 of our strongest 17 wasn't on the field. What do people expect? Anyone with a rugby game can see we have the traits of a good side. We were just beaten by a clinical well experienced side today.

    Injury list

We don't have a game for 3 weeks which helps. Greenwood will be back. Clarke will be back. Adam Jackson passed his HIA. Tom Walker will probably be fit in 3 weeks time. Brad Walker will be fit in 3 weeks time. Gillam aiming for the 3rd game of the season. Toal and Bulman have a chance of being fit for 3 weeks time. Emslie have no idea but I'd guess he has a chance of being fit for 3 weeks time. Unfortunately Stack and Broady are banned for the 1895 cup but Stack will be back for the first league game. As I said on the other thread losing today could massively help up in preparation for the 1895 cup.
  12. We ran out of steam by the end of the game and Oldham had far too much experience to not take advantage of it. They punished every mistake we made and there was quite a few daft individual errors. Charlie gave away a repeat set on the last tackle before the 1st try, Ryan did an incorrect play the ball before the 2nd try, Adam Jackson did a rubbish kick followed by a Brett Carter penalty before their 3rd try and the 4th try was an intercept. I honestly think losing might be a huge blessing in disguise to prepare for the season. James Greenwood and Adam Jackson went off with head knocks, Charlie went off injured. Cresswell was blatantly playing injured the last 10 minutes. Thankfully we have 2 weeks off so get a few troops back. Personally I think we looked extremely organised in attack and defence. If we improve discipline and cut out a few errors there is the makings of a very good side. I'm not concerned about today in the slightest considering by the result today as by the end of the game we had 3 injured players in the squad and 6 good players not on the field.
  13. He's 18th man unsure who he is. Brad Walker is injured so Adam Jackson comes. Furness Raider Finn McMillan on the bench. Brett Carter moves into the centres. Going to be tough today. Missing Bulman, Clarke, Toal, Walker, Walker, Stack and Gillam who all would be in our strongest 17 and Oldhams team looks really strong.
  14. Probably how I felt after the game. It's was one of the most controlled Barrow sides I've seen in a long time in a long time hence it didn't feel like we were going to lose even when Haven had a good spell and started dominating up the middle. Walker and Johnston look very capable of executing a game plan which is what you need to consistently win games at this level.
  15. The quality is fantastic, I think game footage is something long term try to improve as makes highlight packages etc easier to make hence you've got more marketing material. On the footage it looked like Ryan King dropped the ball, the ref was very close so I can't imagine he got it wrong.
  16. Dion had a fantastic game and there was a spell in the middle of the game which you got on top. The first 20 minutes and last 20 minutes you didn't offer much threat at all. I think we got 4 or 5 goal line drop outs and in those periods spent most the game in your half. Haven will be fine I don't think either side is a threat of going down. Good luck for the rest of the season.
  17. It was a very complete performance to be fair. Controlled the first half despite the ref giving us a sin bin for dissent. They threatened our line a few times but we always looked in control. They scored immediately in the second half when a kick rebounded off the post. They had a strong 10 minutes afterwards and deserved their try. We regrouped and controlled the rest of the game to win it 18-12. Ramon Silva was man of the match by a mile. Whitehaven's pack just couldn't handle him. Max Clarke was very good till he got knocked out by a high shot. We look a lot more composed in attack and defence. Walker and Johnston seem to stick to the game plan and control the game which is nice to see. The ref spoilt the game abit by wanting to blow as many penalties as possible. Blew an incorrect play the ball on the first play of the game against us, sin binned Ryan Johnston after 10 mins then gave us a ridiculously penalty when the Whitehaven player pushed our marker which we scored off. Just to give you a bit of a sample. If you add Bulman, Walker and Gillam into our side I think we win the game by much more. Whitehaven had a few moments where they were dominating yardage through the middle (when Silva and Burke were off). The dip when they went off was very noticeable. Fair play to the boys a great win. We look a very well organised side.
  18. Its an open draw.
  19. Our fans spent most of the off season moaning about the recruitment saying we were destined to go down. We have ended up with a pretty handy squad and I think are going under the radar. We dominated through the middle which was enough to win the game due to the conditions. Fairly difficult to play expansive rugby in the wind. There's definitely points in Town with Sammut and your right edge (threatened all game then bagged a couple of tries). In terms of your season I can't see Oldham not winning the league, but after that its fairly open. You need a couple of big forwards in my opinion, you won't come against many better packs this season but physicality wise you could see the difference.

    v Workington

Dominated for 60 mins but then took our foot off the gas. The scoreline didn't reflect our dominance. We gave a lot of penalties away but the ref was terrible for both sides. Blew 4 penalties in the first 10 minutes rather than letting it flow so I'm unsure if our discipline was poor or just a bad ref. Brad Walker got a try assist for the first 3 tries which was promising. The combination of Wood and Smith IMO could be the best in the league. Smith caused all sorts of problems with his speed during the middle third and justified his try. Our props all played outstanding and that's with Walker and Gillam not playing. Stack was a man on a mission today and probably deserved man of the match. Don't think we got any injuries although Greenwood didn't play most of the second half (Clarke and Stack were both playing well so unsure if Cresta was seeing how they went) and we put Cresswell into centre, Broady at FB and Toal on the wing was a bit random (unsure if Toal was injured) We look really solid throughout. Obviously next week is a measuring stick on where we are Im quite optimistic currently.
