  1. I watched the match streamed and thought it was supurb quality. The although it didn't look it. gate was given as just over 1000. This was very good considering the wet morning and the early start. The score was 28-0 although the first points weren't scored until after 30 minutes. Certainly Raiders seemed a speedy team and 2 good tries were scored by Hume.
  2. I see in the Mail that Puera is quite happy to stay
  3. Does anybody know the gate. Did we hit 1000 again.
  4. I think the score was 24-16 but what was the gate.
  5. I didn't get to see the game but the important thing is the next round. That one will probably be much more competative.
  6. Good to see an 82-6 win today.
  7. Many thanks Steve. I'll try and ride my scooter along the front to the other side of the stand.
  8. This is a particular problem to me. I could not go this week but when my wife and myself do go to a match I have to go in a mobility scooter and can only manage to get to the first 2 or 3 rows.
  9. What was the gate. Last year it was about 1100.
  10. The last score i've seen is Oldham 16 Barrow 14. Anybody got an update.
  11. There seems to be a lot of death and serious illnesses this Christmas. In Rugby League it was announced that Rob Burrow has Motor Neurone Disease. It was also announced today that Ged Stokes was critically ill in a South Africa hospital and had travelled from New Zealand to see Ben play in the test matches. In football Martin Peters died a few days ago and we also lost Bob Willis during December.
  12. I think with Barrow Bluebirds being top of the league it's the wrong time to broach the subject again.
  13. According to the Bible of players Jim Lewthwaite's last game was the 1957 CC final against Leeds. He then retired. Ted Toohey left Barrow in 1956 and finally retired in 1960. If I'm wrong Steve Andrews will know the answer.
  14. Well that's the end of 4 pathetic performances. Thank goodness I recorded the games and didn't get up early. I thought PNG were brilliant an completely outplayed GB after the first 20 minutes. It was a pleasure to see good performances from Puara and Star. In addition to these 2 Boas was playing and he plays for Doncaster. They were playing mainly against SL players. Surely Wain Bennett's contract won't be renewed.
  15. I watched most of the games on TV (recorded not up all night). I agree that PNG played well and Puera was included as well as Star. I think Star was injured but nothing serious I hope. I thought England men were awful against Lebanon and not a lot better against New Zealand. The women were a lot better.
  16. I think it's usually first week of November.
  17. He seems to be much travelled and has had injuries but I think we must put our trust in the coach and BOD
  18. Who is Watson Boas.. Is this a new signing.
  19. I wonder why Hull KR released him. I would certainly like to see him in a Raiders shirt.
  20. I agree about Kamal Phil. I have consulted the Bible. Just a final point on Keith Jarrett. He became unhappy at Barrow because he wanted to play for a more successful club. His last game for Barrow was on 3rd April 1973 at York when Barrow were beaten 60-0. Wigan were interested in him and he went for trials. At his first training session he suffered a stroke followed by two more. That was regrettably the end of his rugby career and later there was a wrangle between Barrow and Wigan over compensation but a legal case never materialized. I don't know whether this is of any interest to anybody but I am very interested in the past at Barrow Rugby. Must be my age.
  21. Nobody has mentioned Keith Jarrett who was signed from Newport RUFC in 1969 for £14000. He was a tremendous kicker for Wales and then Barrow Regrettably he was taken seriously ill and retired in 1973 at the age of 25. I think he was the best kicker I ever saw at CP. This information was taken from 'Keeping the Dream Alive' by Keith Nutter & Steve Andrews. I hope they don't mind me pinching this from there book.
  22. Sorry Colin and subsequent writers I phrased my message very badly. I didn't intend to say that Barrows coach position was in jeopardy. We have never treated our coaches like that. My point was that a referee error like the one made could send Barrow to Ch1 and some clubs would then be ruthless in getting rid of the coach. I'm sure that will not happen to us. I can quite understand Paul Crarey feeling saw on both occasions because if the try in question had been allowed the score would have been 18-18 and we could have won but who knows. Anyway it's history. I cannot comment on the injury because I was not at the match but I can understand Crarey feeling saw at having to play for the rest of the game with 12 men. As I say it's all history and I'm sure we will concentrate on beating Toulouse, York, Bradford, Toronto & Batley.
  23. I read that in the MAIL and it's disgusting. Many matters that happen on the field are marginal and you tend to make decisions based on who you support but as I wrote earlier this was a dreadful decision and that error will not even out. A decision like that could end a coaches job with a club or even cause serious financial difficulties. I know that is not likely to happen to Barrow and I know it's too late now but I think the officials who were in charge of the game should be seriously reprimanded. The other matter in the Swinton game was that Star was badly injured but the incident was put on report and the player received a two match ban.. Surely for a cannon ball tackle the player should have received a red card. It looks as if Star could be out of action for some time.
