  1. I wonder why Hull KR released him. I would certainly like to see him in a Raiders shirt.
  2. I agree about Kamal Phil. I have consulted the Bible. Just a final point on Keith Jarrett. He became unhappy at Barrow because he wanted to play for a more successful club. His last game for Barrow was on 3rd April 1973 at York when Barrow were beaten 60-0. Wigan were interested in him and he went for trials. At his first training session he suffered a stroke followed by two more. That was regrettably the end of his rugby career and later there was a wrangle between Barrow and Wigan over compensation but a legal case never materialized. I don't know whether this is of any interest to anybody but I am very interested in the past at Barrow Rugby. Must be my age.
  3. Nobody has mentioned Keith Jarrett who was signed from Newport RUFC in 1969 for £14000. He was a tremendous kicker for Wales and then Barrow Regrettably he was taken seriously ill and retired in 1973 at the age of 25. I think he was the best kicker I ever saw at CP. This information was taken from 'Keeping the Dream Alive' by Keith Nutter & Steve Andrews. I hope they don't mind me pinching this from there book.
  4. Sorry Colin and subsequent writers I phrased my message very badly. I didn't intend to say that Barrows coach position was in jeopardy. We have never treated our coaches like that. My point was that a referee error like the one made could send Barrow to Ch1 and some clubs would then be ruthless in getting rid of the coach. I'm sure that will not happen to us. I can quite understand Paul Crarey feeling saw on both occasions because if the try in question had been allowed the score would have been 18-18 and we could have won but who knows. Anyway it's history. I cannot comment on the injury because I was not at the match but I can understand Crarey feeling saw at having to play for the rest of the game with 12 men. As I say it's all history and I'm sure we will concentrate on beating Toulouse, York, Bradford, Toronto & Batley.
  5. I read that in the MAIL and it's disgusting. Many matters that happen on the field are marginal and you tend to make decisions based on who you support but as I wrote earlier this was a dreadful decision and that error will not even out. A decision like that could end a coaches job with a club or even cause serious financial difficulties. I know that is not likely to happen to Barrow and I know it's too late now but I think the officials who were in charge of the game should be seriously reprimanded. The other matter in the Swinton game was that Star was badly injured but the incident was put on report and the player received a two match ban.. Surely for a cannon ball tackle the player should have received a red card. It looks as if Star could be out of action for some time.
  6. I agree with these messages about injuries but what about the early 60s (I think) when there were no interchanges and all the players were semi pro. Is the game so much faster and tougher now. I cannot remember that far back.
  7. I agree but a coach has to have the tools (players). Cresta also did a good job in getting us promotion from Ch1
  8. I think that's one of the worst off side decisions I've ever seen. Sometimes the decision is so close. Too late now but I hope Gary Hewer sees this video
  9. 3 very good messages here. I'm a massive Paul Crarey fan but I think there are one or two comments that haven't been mentioned. First of all Dally has had 3 yellow cards in the last three matches. Secondly our on field discipline has been dreadful and we have given away far too many penalties. We have had a lot of injuries but so have other clubs. I wasn't at Swinton on Sunday but from speaking to a number of people who were or saw the match on video the offside decision was grossly incorrect. If the try had been allowed it would have made the score 18-18 and who knows? we could well have won but with early seasons results we shouldn't have been fighting to keep out of the bottom two. We now only have York,Bradford,Sheffield,Toronto & Batley to play and I think it will be a miracle if we avoid relegation. Home wins against Sheffield & Dewsbury would have been sufficient.
  10. I must admit, Pete, I haven't seen any joking about the relegation problem and I read all messages on here. Sorry I guess it must have been on the radio and I didn't hear anything. On another subject Josh Jphnson seems to have played very well in his first game for Salford and he scored a try. Apparently he has a number of other SL clubs interested in him. Joe Bullock and Chris Hankinson are regular choices for Wigan so the coaches must be doing something right. Mind you it's a shame that Joe is sidelined due to injury.
  11. Radio Cumbria reported they had received a text from someone saying that we should appoint a SL coach. Where on earth does he think the money would come from to appoint say Darryl Powell. Another coach would also say the players he wanted to sign. Again whose going to pay the bills.
  12. I thought the summarizer on radio cumbria was very poor. I'm not sure whether Daly was given a red or yellow card but he must be disciplined. We have enough problems without a player remaining of the field. I thought he had a one match ban after last week. When does this take effect. As far as the match is concerned I am totally speechless but very disappointed. After todays matches we might have had Leeds playing at Craven Park along with Bradford but not now.
  13. Half time losing 14-2 and seems to be the same old story of errors and penalties. Dewsbury drawing 6-6 with Halifax and Batley look like being thumped by Leigh. Things aren't good.
  14. I think there are 4 Wigan players in the Swinton side.
  15. I see that Joe Bullock has been selected for the Knights Squad. I'm surprised no mention on here.

I take the various points but surely to give in now and accept relegation speaks of total disaster. It means that gates will fall, sponsors will pull out and players will leave even if they are on a 2 years contract. It looks as if Ottowah will certainly not enter the league next season but it will still be enormously difficult to get immediate promotion.

The doom & gloom merchanes are out again. Let's give the players, coaches & BOD a chance until it is mathematically not possible to stay up. We are playing better than we did and apart from some defenses lapses we played well and the players gave plenty of effort. The top half of the Championship are way ahead of the bottom half. The gate today was over 1600 but there was a fair Leigh following.
  18. You're right today is his 8th game.
  19. That's a relief to us Sheffield beat Dewsbury 28-22 tonight. Sorry Dewsbury supporters.

I picked up the following press gossip. If this happens it does not look good for Ch1 Although it had been hoped that Ottawa would be ready for 2020, it is believed they haven’t been able to satisfy the requirements laid down for them by the RFL in time, and so they will now target 2021 – which is also expected to see the introduction of a New York based team. Whether those two teams would go straight in to the Championship, rather than League 1, may become a discussion point in the near future. With League 1 clubs expecting to be cut away from the professional game at the end of the current round of central funding, shoehorning the transatlantic sides straight in to the Championship appears to be the preferred option of many.

If things aren't changing is Ottowa going to Ch1?
  22. Fair comment Lion Heart. This was only my optimistic outlook and your probably right. Who knows. Anyway my wife says all this time on calculations keeps me off the streets. LOL
  23. I like your confidence NWDuk and Crown Flatter but this is how the matches should pan. In theory Swinton don't seem to have any further victories. On this theory I think the finish positions would be Dewsbury 16 Barrow 15 Batley 15 Swinton 14 This seems very, very close. Everything seems to hinge round Batley v Dewsbury, Swinton v Barrow, Barrow v Batley I'm sure my figures are way out but it gives me some optimism for Barrow.
  24. I agree. I fear for the future. Ottowa are coming in next year but will it be Ch or Ch1. If Ch surely only one club will go down. Am I dreaming or is this possible.
  25. There seems to be just 3 or 4 readers of this Forum who seem to be rattling on about changing the coach. It was different when werhad some good results and performances only a few weeks ago.
