Fri 17th March : SL : St Helens v Hull FC 20:00 Sky
yipyee replied to Old Frightful's topic in The General Rugby League Forum
Impressed with Hull tonight, was a better fame than I was expecting and at times the game could have swong either way -
Just a thought that IMG might decide to only have one club in that area, I won't mention the M word..
-
On the face of it no but there were a few strange decisions made by clubs at the end of last season. Another was Newcastle reversing the fully pro status.. did they know they could get promoted without on field success??
-
I am sure Toulouse will be in as soon as the grading is released hence why they are moaning about travel costs this year. Fev will be an interesting one but I would like to see them have a season in the top flight im place of cas and wakey.

If we took a look at previous years would Leigh have gone up last year on paper and toulouse the year before ? The last licensing was every 3 years this talks about an annual review with no limit on top level teams. Maybe not R but certainly P every year. I think most would agree if say Leeds were relegated it would damage the sport. Bradford going certainly damaged the sport in terms of player production and crowds. Infact Bradford bulls was a household name

Not read the whole thread but just on P&R this is still in place and isn't effected by IMG plans so unsure why there's a big kick off ?
-
It also makes me laugh too, the only money the rfl invests in was Bradford and another hearland club when they bought the grounds to stop them disappearing.

Finishing 9th on the field but could literally be playing in a park field. The idea is to raise standards, if a team finishes 9th why are they not improving standards off the field too. The teams that keep winning everything is the ones that have the highest gradings therefore highlighting these as a pathway to success and growth is hardly re-invwnting the wheel its pointing out to the failing clubs to look at what the market leaders are doing and either copy or fall by the wayside and give someone else a shot

This week's SL Disciplinary cases...
yipyee replied to Old Frightful's topic in The General Rugby League Forum
Its for this reason that the captains challenge was invented. Be a farce in this country though as the refs are that bad. The worst one last season was a try that went to the video ref and he gave it, it was the one where the hooker dove through the legs of the bloke playing the ball.. -

No as the decision was always going to be overturned for welsby rushing in. He should have been sin binned though. The decision that changed the game was the lack of an 8 point try. Now that has gone quiet considering the 2 given the night before, neither was as bad an incident -
The fans do get on the back of players who are penalty machines, in the cold light of day I think fans will be upset with the saints players who rightfully got penalised. That doesn't excuse the refs actions or lack of actions towards Leeds. The abuse refs get is nothing compared to what our emergency services have to put up with and most of the time the emergency services are just doing their job well (unlike some officials ). I watched one of your shows where you interviewed an old ref and how he left the game as he got a decision wrong in a Hull game and felt threatened this is obviously wrong. Theres a difference between accountability and abuse (threatening abuse as apose a pantomime villan). I would like to see the refs at the touch screen after the game and to explain their decisions and held to account although I admit this will never happen.

I think a big issue is the lack of a penalty try considering 2 were given last night and one was an identical offence. Both went to the video ref who is out of the heat of the moment and can take as long as he likes to come to a conclusion. The shoulder charge is also an issue as last season you had to make an effort to wrap an arm, now it seems as long as its not tucked into your body its ok so matty lees and Co should have a field day with shoulder charges in the coming weeks ?

So heres a bigger problem, kids games are about development and not winning, this is for refs as well as players. The SL is fully proffesional for players and referees. Basically you are saying (hyperthetically ) konrad hurell made a bad decision got a red card and should get a few match bans The referee however can make as many bad decisions as he likes and there's no consequences. Both are professional athletes / rugby league personnel. The fans pay good money to be entertained and as such should expect a fair spectacle. This is not junior rugby where there are no fans and it is about development (even though some parents and coaches can become over excited).

But then the fans get stick for engaging back ? Like I said 50 50 , its either acceptable or not, for those calling the fans need to also look at rohans part in it. It takes 2 to tango etc... The fans were either OK to engage with roman or if not roman shouldn't have engaged with fans its that simples

I am , big game and the talking point is the refs decisions. A ref has a good game if he remains anominous throughout the game. The grand final or the world club challenge can anyone remember a refs decision ? No because it was a great advert for the game. For what its worth I think catalans were robbed in the grand final they lost due to poor refereeing
