There's nothing new here and nothing re emerging. The rule is (and always was) that the ball needs to be passed in a backward direction relative to the passer (i.e. not relative to the ground). The so called "momentum rule" was simply Stevo explaining this concept. FWIW I thought at first viewing that Wigan's second try had more than one forward pass but IMO the replays clearly show the hand movements of the players making the passes and all were good.

Funny the tricks memory plays. I remember being thrilled watching the match on Sportsnight without knowing the score and being absolutely buzzing after. I guess we were so starved of good coverage that any crumbs were gratefully devoured. Plus beating the Aussies at RL would even be exciting on teletext for me!!

1895 Cup Connotations for Quarter Finals
north yorks trinity replied to Mumby Magic's topic in The General Rugby League Forum
Probably not that difficult for them. They'd need to win by 178 to top the group but would most likely go through as best 2nd placed side with a win of around 150. -
Great result for Batley. Also for Wakefield as it probably puts one of our main rivals for the cup out of the picture. Just need to be careful that Wakefield don't put too many points on York these last 20 mins to ensure York rather than Fev get best 2nd placed team. (Bit tongue in cheek as I'm sure that's not on their mind and also York sound to be battling hard and have the wind behind them 2nd half)

Have we got a RL Joey Barton ?

There's nothing wrong with box ticking, as long as the boxes are well considered such as, for example, ensuring that some demographics aren't overlooked just because is was the custom to overlook them in the past. I believe you made a similar point much earlier in the thread. I'm happy for people to criticise the inclusion of certain boxes to be ticked but let's not let that become a criticism of the whole genre of box ticking. -
Could they have used anonymised data? Maybe not as it may be too reliant on honesty, which is never a good thing! Or they could have looked at engagement with schools and clubs no matter how geographically distant, an example being Wakefield's involvement with a club in Immingham. That said, my own opinion (and that's all it is based on no more than gut feel and possibly flawed intuition) is that the clunky measure arose from a combination of laziness and incompetence.

Is that because they have a good catchment or in spite of having a more challenging one? Having a good catchment feeds into so many other criteria that it is questionable whether it needs its own category. Like I said earlier I think the general idea is reasonable so long as its soundly based but should aim to support expansion clubs rather than pit traditional clubs against each other. For example there could be an extra point for having no more than 1 other club* in a (for example) 20-30 mile radius. *just an example of an embryonic thought process. The details/distances could be explored ad nauseum - as I'm sure they would be - but I suggested one other club to allow development of healthy competition in a conurbation such as London or Birmingham.

Maybe they would and maybe they'd be right. I don't know. I do know that a single example of a better system doesn't stop Saints being one of the best. -
It ignores the people on the other side of an administrative boundary who could be a target audience. Castleford for example sit right on the edge of the local authority area so their target audience to the north is excluded e.g. Kippax and Garforth. Wakefield historically got significant support from the south as far as Barnsley and have plenty of potential to do so again. I speak from experience as I inherited my support of Wakefield from my dad who is from Barnsley. There's also areas such as Rothwell and East Ardsley which are at least as likely to gravitate to Wakefield as to Leeds.

The true sleeping giants of the game

Quick Wikipaedia search: Keighley were a distant third to Hull Sharks (whatever happened to them?!) and Huddersfield Giants in 97. In 96 they were 6 points behind Salford in 2nd, but when they lost at home to Salford in (??) June it was a possible title decider with a crowd of approaching 7000. It all seemed to go a bit flat after that.
