    • Match Report as Wigan Warriors Wheelchair fall to defeat away to Leeds Rhinos Wheelchair.
    • Wigan scored seven tries in the defeat including doubles from Roberts, Wooloff and Heggie.
    • FT | Leeds Rhinos Wheelchair 68-36 Wigan Warriors Wheelchair.

Match Report as Wigan Warriors Wheelchair are beaten by a strong Leeds Rhinos Wheelchair side away from home.

The game was in the balance for the first quarter, with both sides exchanging tries and the lead swinging from one side to the other. First over the line for the Rhinos was Josh Butler, but a perfect angled run from Matt Wooloff around the back of Jack Heggie saw him score and get his side off the mark.

Following on from that, Dec Roberts carried the ball strongly from centre court to the left edge and was able to touch down in the corner. Two uncharacteristic misses from the tee by Roberts left the Warriors only 8-4 in front.

Regaining the lead, the Rhinos hit back through Halliwell, allowed too much space close to the line, before extending it further with a try from Collins. Adding their extras, Leeds now put themselves back in the driving seat.

Brief respite for Wigan came when Chris Greenhalgh was able to crash over for a try. A successful conversion from Roberts helped narrow the gap, but this wasn’t to last.

Finishing the half stronger, Leeds rolled in three more tries, two from Collins to complete his hat trick and a second for Butler. This gave them a commanding 34-14 lead going into the break.

Looking to start the half on the front foot, Wigan were in again within minutes. Wooloff doubling his tally with a try in the right corner. Heggie took over the kicking duties with Roberts off the field, but he too was having issues.

On the back of some strong carries from Leeds, Ewan Clibbens spotted a gap in the defence and was able top place the ball down on the line. He then converted his own try to make it 40-18.

After a flurry of tries, a tight period followed with defences on top. Both sides were working hard to cover the court and minimise any space for the attacking team. It took an off the cuff play from Heggie, with a little kick through close to the line that he chased himself, that helped break the deadlock.

On the hour mark, Leeds were back on the attack and used some slick handling to release Nathan Mulhall down the left flank. With his team’s handling creating an overlap, Mulhall was in to score his first try of the afternoon.

Two quick fire tries followed, a second from Halliwell and a third from Butler, this was enough to put the game out of reach for the travelling side. With both tries converted by Collins, the Rhinos were now 58-24 up, with 15 minutes to play.

Despite this, Wigan still fought until the end and were able to add to their tally. Having taken the ball into the line, Roberts was able evade being tagged and reach out to score. Matching his teammates with a brace, Heggie scored a seventh try for the Warriors, but it wouldn’t be enough.

A try by Jodie Boyd-Ward was sandwiched by the last two Wigan tries, set up by a long pass by Clibbens. He then finished the scoring with his second, this after a mazy run by Collins. Adding the extras, Clibbens sealed a 68-36 win for Leeds, and likely top spot in the table with one round remaining.

    • Match Report as Wigan Warriors Women produced a strong display to beat Huddersfield Giants Women.
    • Anna Davies and Mary Coleman each scored twice as Cailey Miller rounded off the win which keeps the Warriors on course for a top four finish.
    • FT | Wigan Warriors Women 26-06 Huddersfield Giants Women.

Wigan Warriors Women remained on course for a top four finish after beating Huddersfield Giants Women 26-6 at Robin Park Arena.

Anna Davies and Mary Coleman each scored twice as the Warriors put in a strong performance to defeat the Giants.

Cailey Miller rounded off the victory with an impressive solo try as Carys Marsh made her 50th appearence for the Warriors.

    Report

After an injury hit start to the contest, which saw Sienna McPherson replaced for Huddersfield, the Warriors opened the scoring after eight minutes when Davies touched down in the corner after the Giants failed to deal with Sinead Doria’s accurate grubber kick through.

Handling errors frustrated the Warriors, however, the lead was increased after 24 minutes when Carys Marsh’s pass found Coleman who powered over the line. Doria added the extras to give the Warriors a 10-0 lead.

Despite threatening the Huddersfield defensive line for a third try before the half time whistle, the visitors remained firm to keep Eva Hunter out as the sides went into the break with the score at 10-0.

The Warriors added a third try in the opening minute when Doria’s pin-point kick over the top was collected by Davies who powered through the attempted tackle to score underneath the sticks. Doria was successful from the tee to increase the advantage.

Huddersfield capitalised on a mix up from a high kick as Amelia Brown burst through the line at pace, however, Hunter chased back excellently to stop the winger short before the Warriors forced the Giants back to 20m.

A fourth try came shortly after when Coleman, who after initially being stopped by the Huddersfield defence, crashed over the line in the following play with 50 minutes on the clock. The Warriors’ lead remained at 20-0 after the conversion attempt went wide.

The Warriors continued to apply pressure on the Huddersfield defence, and after a series of forward carries, Holly Speakman’s pass was well-collected by Beth Hayes who was held up over the line.

Huddersfield scored their first points on the hour when, after an initial break from Emma Wilkinson took the Giants 20m out, the ball was worked back to the prop who powered over next to the sticks. The try was converted to reduce the score to 20-6.

Despite a spell of pressure from the Giants, the Warriors scored a fifth try when Miller skipped clear of multiple tackles before sprinting clear from half way to slide over between the sticks. Doria slotted the conversion to restore the 20-point advantage.

The Warriors finished the game strongly as an excellent chase from Davies almost resulted in a goal line drop out, however, the score remained 26-6 at the final whistle.

    • Match Report as Wigan Warriors Reserves ran out winners against Leeds Rhinos.
    • Wigan scored eight tries in the victory, which sees them go top of the Reserves table.
    • FT | Wigan Warriors Reserves 44-24 Leeds Rhinos Reserves.

Wigan Warriors Reserves moved to the top of the table after scoring eight tries to defeat Leeds Rhinos 44-24 at Robin Park Arena.

In a rescheduled clash between the two sides, due to the original meeting being abandoned as a result of an injury, the Warriors scored eight tries through different scorers to top the table.

    Report

The Warriors flew out of the blocks as Ryan Hampshire kicked a 40/20 on the Warriors first set to get them on the attack from close range and it paid profitable as Finley Beardsworth crashed over for the opening try, converted by Hampshire for 6-0.

Almost immediately, the Warriors extended their lead as a set restart close to Leeds’ goal line allowed Hampshire to fire a pass out to Sumner on the right edge to ease over. The touchline conversion from Hampshire was just off target as Wigan led 10-0.

Leeds got over for their opening score in the 12th minute as Alfie Edgell sent Bailey Aldridge through a gap in the middle of the park to go in under the sticks, Jack Smith added the extras and it was 10-6.

The Warriors extended their lead in the 17th minute as Logan Astley slipped a tackle before sending a perfect pass to Cade Cust to burst through a gap and dive over for Wigan’s third of the morning, which Hampshire improved for 16-6.

Wigan were rolling through their sets nicely and Jack Farrimond was the next to pounce for Wigan, creating a gap for himself on half way before racing away and avoiding the defenders to touch down. Hampshire was on target again as Wigan made it 22-6.

A high tackle in the 27th minute allowed Leeds close to the Wigan line and they got their reward as Gibbons managed to muscle his way over, with Smith converting. Wigan responded immediately though as a great break saw Farrimond send Eckersley away before putting Hampshire into space to race the rest of the way, converting his own try for 28-12.

From the restart, Wigan added to their tally as Nathan Lowe became the sixth player to add their name to the scoresheet, the effort was once again improved by Hampshire. Leeds responded well though and a well worked try saw Riley Lumb go over close to the sticks, converted by Jack Smith to see the score at 34-18 with half an hour to play.

Jacob Douglas got in the rout though as Wigan got another immediate response, the left winger evading a tackle attempt from Turner to eventually get the ball down in the left corner. The touchline conversion from Ryan Hampshire didn’t find the target but Wigan held the 38-18 advantage.

Tom Ratchford was the latest name on the scoresheet as he crossed from the interchange bench in the 58th minute, which again was converted by Hampshire as Wigan held a 44-18 lead going into the final quarter.

The visitors were more dominant in the closing stages, and shortly after being held up, an attempted kick through bounced kindly for Aldridge who was able to pick up and crash over the line. Smith kicked the final points of the match, as the Warriors maintained the 44-24 lead to the final whistle.

    • Match Report as Wigan Warriors Wheelchair Reserves beat Sheffield Eagles.
    • The win sees Wigan confirm a second place finish in the Wheelchair Championship.
    • FT | Wigan Warriors Wheelchair Reserves 64-46 Sheffield Eagles Wheelchair.

Match Report as Wigan Warriors Wheelchair Reserves beat Sheffield Eagles to confirm a second placed finish in the Wheelchair Championship and book a play-off spot.

It was the Eagles who took an early lead when Chris Haynes attacked the blindside and put Ben Simpson in to score. Simpson added the extras.

After a slow start, the Wigan side came into their own with a try for Tom Welch close to the sticks. Registering his first try for the club, Welch was exuberant in his celebrations.

Adding to this, Phil Roberts was next across the line with a neat wraparound play. Scoring his second, Welch pounced on a Sheffield error to extend the lead. Roberts converted all three tries for an 18-6 advantage.

Looking to turn the tide, Haynes was able to reach out close to the line and touch down for the visitors, but the Cherry and Whites had other ideas. Immediately cancelling out the try, Roberts was able to barge his way over and extend the gap to 14 points.

Having seen his teammate score his first try, Daniel Dutson wasn’t going to be outdone. Some slick handling from Wigan saw Roberts pass the ball on to Reece Duddle who then released Dutson down the left flank and set him away for his account opener.

From supplier to scorer, Duddle was next on the scoresheet when Welch took the ball to the line before supplying the final pass. Two successful conversions from Roberts made the score 34-10 with 25 minutes played.

Sheffield were far from out of the game, in fact, two quick fire tries soon got them right back in it. Firstly, Joe Wink-Simmonds was the beneficiary after some good handling, then Haynes was able to capitalise on a Wigan error and race away from deep inside his own half.

The final try of the half was from the Home team, Mark Williams scoring in the right corner after another Duddle assist. With the kick missing the target, the half time score remained 38-20.

Just as in the first, the Eagles started the second half brightly and were soon over the line. Scoring right between the sticks was Vice Brooks, this also making it an easy conversion for Simpson from bang in front.

Back to back tries followed for the Warriors, which saw Welch completing his hat trick after collecting a Roberts kick. Williams doubled his tally soon after with Welch again the provider. Extending the lead, the score was now 48-26.

Continuing to show their desire to stay in the game, the Away side kept plugging away. A try by Will Brooks in the right corner was a good start, but Haynes added his third to narrow the gap further. Also getting in on the act, Stephen Reilly was put through a gap to score, this was helping to keep things interesting.

Two further tries from Williams took his personally tally to 16 points, and with 10 minutes left to play, he put the game out of reach at 58-42.

Another try for each side ended the game, Dutson getting too much space out wide before evading tackles on the way to the line. This was followed by Reilly barging over to finalise the score at 64-46 to Wigan.

It was a good team performance overall, but worthy mentions must go to Tom Welch and Daniel Dutson for putting on a masterclass. Both players were eager to have their hands on the ball at every opportunity, but also willing to do the hard work in defence when necessary.

The victory means Wigan Warriors Reserves finish second in the table, setting up another fixture vs Sheffield Eagles in the play-offs.

Wigan Warriors: Phil Roberts, Wes Thomasson, Leila Hamrang, Daniel Dutson, Tom Welch

Interchanges: Reece Duddle, Mark Williams, Stuart Ord, Jordan Burns, Heather Robinson

    Tries: Welch (3), P. Roberts (2), Dutson (2), Duddle, Williams (4)

    Goals: P. Roberts (8/12)

Sheffield Eagles: Chris Haynes, Vicky Brooks, Ben Simpson, April Brooks, Will Brooks

Interchanges: Jack Johnson, Joe Wink-Simmonds, Emma Pearson, Stacey Roulson, Stephen Reilly

    Tries: Simpson, Haynes (3), Wink-Simmonds, V. Brooks, W. Brooks, Reilly (2)

    Goals: Simpson (4/7), Wink-Simmonds (0/1), Reilly (1/1)

    • Nsemba: “Hopefully I can get a few more games in this year and continue to learn.”
    • FT | Wigan Warriors 26-8 Salford Red Devils.

Junior Nsemba reflected after the Warriors’ 26-8 win over Salford Red Devils at the DW Stadium on Friday night.

“It was a good game,” he said, “a bit scrappy at times but we stuck to our processes and did the job we needed to do to come away with a win.”

Nsemba has recently got a consecutive run of first team games for the Warriors: “Moving from Reserves to playing more consistent first team games has boosted my confidence. I’m learning new things every day and every week.

“Hopefully I can get a few more games in this year and continue to learn.”

Summarising the game against Salford, he said: “I don’t think it was a comfortable win, Salford put up a fight and stuck at it which proved in a low scoring second half.

“They were throwing the ball about and making us move all over the pitch so it was a bit scrappy but we did the things we needed to tonight and as a team we’re happy.”

The victory saw Wigan go top of the Betfred Super League table with three games to go, as Nsemba said: “It’s great to be top of the league but we just need to focus on the remaining games, get some good performances in there and hopefully we’re still up there by the end of the season.”

    • Matt Peet praised his side after Wigan Warriors’ victory over Salford Red Devils at the DW Stadium.
    • Peet: “I’m proud of those players who played through the pain, and if we do achieve anything this year then everyone in that changing room deserves a lot of credit.”
    • FT | Wigan Warriors 26-8 Salford Red Devils.

Matt Peet says he is ‘proud’ of side after Wigan Warriors climbed to the top of the Super League table with a victory over Salford Red Devils at the DW Stadium.

On going top of the table, Peet said: “It feels good. It’s a nice bit of recognition as it shows that through the year we have managed to be consistent. We have to build on that now and concentrate on our performances in the hope that the results sort themselves.”

Praising the squad, Peet said: “There were some lads who were pretty doubtful to play tonight but you wouldn’t know watching that game what they’ve been through this week. I’m proud of those players who played through the pain, and if we do achieve anything this year then everyone in that changing room deserves a lot of credit.”

On finding balance, Peet said: “We are trying to find the balance between playing direct and respecting the ball, and opening up to play with some freedom and flow as well. We’ve got that balance a little bit better in the last couple of weeks, and it means you can manage your energy levels more and look after the defensive side as well.”

    — Wigan Warriors 🍒⚪ (@WiganWarriorsRL) September 1, 2023

Speaking on Bevan French, Peet said: “We want him to play with freedom but that’s probably more challenging at the moment because he is having to think about other people’s roles while playing in the halves. We don’t want him to forget his X Factor and we don’t want him to become like anybody else – we want him to be Bevan French. He only needs one or two moments to break the game open.”

Looking ahead to next Saturday’s clash against Leeds Rhinos, Peet said: “Next week will be a big game. Regardless of how Leeds are doing I know it will be a tough as they’ve got so much talent through their team. If we’re the slightest bit off then it can cost.”

On the remaining three games before the play-offs, Peet said: “It’s all about trying to build some form now. We’ve got to keep working hard and remain consistent whether you get the result or not. It’s all about staying true to the process and keeping belief in what you do.”

    • Match Report as Wigan Warriors win against Salford Red Devils at the DW Stadium.
    • Wigan crossed for five tries to put the Warriors top of the Betfred Super League.
    • FT | Wigan Warriors 26-8 Salford Red Devils.

Wigan Warriors went top of Betfred Super League after a well-earned win over Salford Red Devils at the DW Stadium on Friday night.

Wigan scored five tries to go top of the Super League table with an emphatic Round 24
victory against Salford, in front of over 12,000 fans at the DW Stadium.

Morgan Smithies made his 100th Super League appearance, marking another milestone for
    the forward in 2023.

    Report

The two sides couldn’t be separated in a cagey opening 10 minutes, which notably saw a
couple of dangerous Wigan attacks in quick succession defended well by the visitors.

It was Salford who eventually broke the deadlock, opting to kick a penalty from 20 metres out
    through Ryan Brierley.

The two point deficit was short lived for the Warriors, who took the lead courtesy of captain
Liam Farrell. The second rower danced his way through a number of Red Devils before
diving over, making the score 4-2 after 21 minutes.

Despite a strong Salford response to Farrell’s try, Wigan defended valiantly to deny several
attacking sets from the opposition. Upon receiving back-to-back penalties, however, Paul
Rowley’s side once again chose to kick from the tee, as Brierley levelled the scores with 10
minutes to go in the first half.

The Cherry and Whites regained momentum and took advantage of their ever-growing threat,
when a slick passing move found its way to Abbas Miski. The in-form winger made no
mistake of touching down in the corner to retake the lead, scoring his 21st try of the Super
    League season.

It was one-way traffic in favour of the Warriors, who were finding their groove as time went
on. A fine pass from Jai Field found Jake Wardle, who beat opposition defenders to crash
over and score on the left-hand side. Harry Smith scored the resulting kick, expertly
converting from the touchline to extend the lead.

As the half-time hooter sounded, Salford were awarded a penalty in their own half. They
kicked for touch and then sent a high kick the way of Field, with several attackers following
in a Hail Mary style attempt. The Australian caught the ball and darted through his
opponents, using his speed to go the distance and score a spectacular try under the posts.
Smith was again good from the tee, making it 20-4 to Wigan at the break.

The second half spelled further trouble for the Red Devils, who were down to 12 men with
King Vuniyayawa in the sin bin for a high shot on Bevan French. The Warriors made the man advantage count, with French cleverley passing behind his back to Toby King, who kindly scored underneath the posts for Smith to convert.

After conceding zero points away to Catalans last time out, Matt Peet’s side were once again
impressive in defence. It took until the 70th minute for Salford to score their first and only try
of the night, with their spell of attacks rewarded by Ken Sio scoring in the corner.

With the final score 26-8, the Warriors recorded their sixth straight Super League victory to
top the league table in style.

  2. Wigan Warriors Head Coach Matt Peet has been named August’s Betfred Coach of the Month after a hat-trick of wins.

The Warriors began August with two victories at the DW Stadium, starting with a 64-6 victory over Hull KR before Harry Smith’s drop goal in golden point extra time secured a 13-12 win against Hull FC.

The Cherry and Whites closed the month with an excellent 34-0 win over league leaders Catalans Dragons at the Stade Gilbert Brutus, which closed the gap at the top of the table to two points.

On winning the award, Peet said: “It’s a pleasure to receive the award on behalf of the efforts of the team. Hopefully we can build a decent run of form now.”

It is the second time Peet has won the award this season, with his previous recognition coming for April when Wigan were also unbeaten, including their Good Friday win against St Helens.

The award was presented live on Sky Sports before tonight’s Round 24 fixture against Salford Red Devils at the DW Stadium. The Betfred Coach of the Month is decided by a panel of experts.

    • Harry Smith previews Friday’s Betfred Super League Retro Round clash against Salford Red Devils.
    • Smith: “We have a lot of players who are in form so if we can continue that, and keep pushing on and building momentum, then it will help us go a long way.”
    • Watch the full interview with Harry Smith on Wigan TV HERE.

Harry Smith looks ahead to Friday’s Retro Round clash against Salford Red Devils at the DW Stadium.

Reflecting on the Warriors victory over Catalans Dragons, Smith said: “We went with a strong game plan and a lot of clarity and I feel we put in one of the best performances of the season. The result shows how we want to play for the rest of the season and if we can do that to the best of our ability then it will put us in strong stead. It’s now about backing that up for the remaining games.”

Smith scored five goals in the win in France to hit 500 points for the Warriors, and on the achievement, he said: “I was really happy and I had no clue until I seen something after the match. It’s a nice achievement but it’s not one I’m going to brag about as it’s all about the team and as long as the team’s winning that’s all that matters.”

Congratulations to Harry Smith who hit 5⃣0⃣0⃣ points for Wigan Warriors last night!

    Fantastic performance, Harry 🪄#WWRL #SLCATWIG pic.twitter.com/n359pYvFl3

    — Wigan Warriors 🍒⚪ (@WiganWarriorsRL) August 27, 2023

Speaking on the squad’s mentality, Smith said: “The confidence is high at the minute, and there’s a good camaraderie about the lads after that win. We have a lot of players who are in form so if we can continue that, and keep pushing on and building momentum, then it will help us go a long way.”

Looking ahead to Friday night’s clash against Salford Red Devils, Smith said: “We’re going to be coming up against a very good Salford team who are fighting to cement their place in the top six. We know they’ll be at their best, and that they have a lot of attacking threat, so we’ll need to be on it for the whole 80 minutes to get the result.”

On wearing the No.7 shirt this season, Smith said: “Matt pulled me aside at the start of pre-season to tell me what he wanted from me and that I would be the No.7. He told me to take that responsibility on and to back myself. It’s been a big season for me having the shirt number for the first time, but all the staff and lads have helped me out which has given me a lot of confidence.”

Smith leads the way for scoring the most goals (93) in all competitions across England this season, and on his kicking, he said: “I was frustrated in the middle part of the season when I wasn’t kicking well and people were taking that as my game even though I felt I was still contributing to the team.

“We’ve brought in a kicking coach in the last few months to work on the fundamentals, and he has been brilliant with me which I think has showed. It’s something I want to swing around quickly, especially coming to the back end of the season where goal kicking can be the difference.”

    • Wigan Warriors v Salford Red Devils, DW Stadium, Friday 1 September, 8pm K.O.

Matt Peet spoke to the press on Wednesday afternoon as the Warriors prepare to face Salford Red Devils in a Retro Round clash at the DW Stadium.

It was a positive step, but already it’s in the memory bank and we’re concentrating on a good performance against Salford this weekend.”

The Warriors were backed by a vocal travelling support in the South of France, and on the Wigan fans, Peet said: “It wasn’t just during the game, it was the whole build up. When you know so many fans have gone over it brought a level of expectation and a healthy pressure of being at this club. It was brilliant for the players, and I’m just glad they rewarded the fans and contributed to a good weekend.”

    — Wigan Warriors 🍒⚪ (@WiganWarriorsRL) August 27, 2023

Looking ahead to Friday night’s Retro Round opponents Salford Red Devils, Peet said: “Salford is always one of our toughest games. Certainly as far as running intensity and the way they move the ball, you’ve got to be prepared to work hard and you can’t have a minute off. We know they will be coming to compete and challenge us as they’re a play-off quality team.”

Speaking on Brad O’Neill, Peet said: “Saturday was the sort of performance that we are aiming for, and he was right at the heart of it. In the intense games some players have to strive to reach that intensity, but he just loves it. He’s just a young player at the minute who is striving on and off the field, and for me he’s been one of the standout young players in the game this season. We’re really proud of the way he’s developing.”

The Warriors have won their last five Super League matches, and on building momentum, Peet said: “You’re always looking to string positive performances together at this point in the year where there isn’t much time to get it right. If we can look at that Catalans performance as a kickstart then great, but there is no guarantee that will be the case.

“We don’t get carried away as there’s still plenty of rugby to be played and Salford will be a completely different threat in their own manner. We’ve got ourselves into a position now where if we continue to perform then we will finish in good shape.”

    Oldham Roughyeds 40-24 Workington Town

Kieran Tyrer started, while Harvey Wilson came off the bench, in Oldham’s impressive victory over play-off rivals Workington Town at Boundary Park last Wednesday night.

Tyrer, who started at scrum-half, scored a second half try for the Roughyeds in the win after he exploited a gap in the Town defensive to dive over.

    Halifax Panthers 26-28 Widnes Vikings

Tom Forber came off the bench to help Widnes get back to winning ways with a hard-fought victory at Halifax Panthers on Sunday afternoon.

The teams went into the break level at 14-14, before Forber played a key role in setting up both of the Vikings’ second half tries as Widnes held on to claim the two points.

    Oldham Roughyeds 10-18 Midlands Hurricanes

Tyrer started his second Oldham game in four days on Sunday afternoon, however, this time the Roughyeds were beaten in their final league game before they face Doncaster in the play-offs.

Despite working the difference back to four points after falling 14-0 behind, the Roughyeds fell short after the Hurricanes crossed for a third try in the closing minutes.

    • Abbas Miski reflected on scoring a hat-trick in Wigan Warriors’ victory over Catalans Dragons.
    • Miski: “We have just spoken then as a team about how proud we are of the whole performance.”

Abbas Miski reflected on scoring a hat-trick in Wigan Warriors’ 34-0 victory over league leaders Catalans Dragons at the Stade Gilbert Brutus.

Miski completed his hat-trick at the start of the second half, and speaking on the win, he said: “We are really pleased with the performance as this is a tough place to come against Catalans who are top of the table. We have just spoken then as a team about how proud we are of the whole performance.”

Speaking on the preparation ahead of the trip, Miski said: “It’s hard, but we’ve done this all before. Everything was planned out really well by the club and it’s a great way to spend some extra time with the rest of the boys.”

The Lebanese international has now scored 20 Super League tries this season – the third highest in the competition – and on his hat-trick in Perpignan, Miski said: “They came off the back of some really good field pressure from the team, and then Harry, Bevan and Jai executed their plays really well which is exactly what we wanted to do.”

On the travelling support, Miski said: “I was really surprised as I didn’t think there would be that many Wigan fans. It’s supposed to be a hostile place here with a lot of French fans, however, the Wigan fans being here in those numbers really did help.”

Miski has scored 29 tries in 28 appearances for the Warriors, and reflecting on how far he has come, the winger said: “I’ve always had belief I would get to this point. It isn’t given though so I need to keep working hard in training and playing well.”

Looking ahead to the final four matches of the regular season, Miski said: “This is a really important time of the year which is something we have spoken a lot about. Ideally we want to finish top of the table, but being in the top two would be really good – we just have to take each week as it comes.”

Full match reaction from Matt Peet and Harry Smith is available to watch on Wigan TV HERE.
