  1. Mixed emotions about a new thread. I feel like my 547 posts on the last thread have been consigned to history... and at least 4 of them were quite insightful.
  2. What are your legal qualifications?
  3. I quite like that but I would maybe simplify it even more. All foul play that is deemed a player is sin-binned means a team is down a player for 10 minutes... but a more serious foul (a red now) means that the player who committed the foul cannot return but the team goes back up to 13 after the 10 minutes. The player is punished as they are ejected from the game and the team is punished (and provides an advantage to the opposition) by being down an interchange player.
  4. I have raised the question before whether ejecting players from the game but still allowing 13 players on the pitch is the correct balance. As well as having strong bans as a deterrent for foul play. This way, the player is punished but the fans still see 13 vs. 13 (obviously with fewer players to interchange). US sports do this and I think it is worth considering even if we decide not to adopt it.
  5. Tackle and commentary of the round. https://www.facebook.com/share/v/ujegaLWjms3s6BTk/
  6. At a minimum, update their player profile page which reads "Zak brings a high level of professionalism and commitment to the game." 01 Zac Hardaker – Leigh Leopards
  7. I think the Leigh club have seriously misjudged this one.. Success in team sports is as much down to work ethic and discipline as it is talent. Part of that is leadership setting and enforcing standards. It is no coincidence that the majority of the most successful sports teams have managers/coaches who are also strong disciplinarians who rigorously enforce standards. What Leigh have done is say that behaviour doesn't matter. This type of message filters into the psyche of the players and the club as a whole and I will argue that this will impact performances on the field. In short. When one of your leaders is a wrong un then you are not in good shape.
  8. Every single one of those sports vigorously enforces the rules of play. In fact, I think there is a very good argument to say every one of them penalises foul play far more than Rugby League does.
  9. Sure. Sorry, wasn't trying to be argumentative, just discussing how difficult it would be with multiple broadcast partners.
  10. Who would this type of message go to though with Sky, BBC and SuperLeague+ all showing matches. Does one have the authority to ask the other not to mention the scores of other matches?
  11. Decisions in Rugby League are almost always subjective. I really don't see how asking video ref's to adjudicate on forward passes, but only the obvious one's is going to make life better.
  12. Agreed. And to add, hitting someone in the head has been outlawed since the game began.
  13. Not sure Watts is off and not Westermam when Westerman hit him in the head with his shoulder before Watts.
  14. It is just a matter of pragmatism. Everyone has their own view but for me international national competition is the highest priority for the game and the logistics mid year are challenging. International club competitions, regular league seasons and then nation based internationals at the end of the year works for me. Any issues in timing are a distant second to the game actually deciding these things and fully committing to them for a long term cycle.
  15. I agree that a long term approach is favourable. I'm not sure we can find a better time than it is played now. I would certainly not want to impact the (already too short) international window at the end of the year. As long as we commit to the fixture for the long term with the UK and Australia as alternate venues then it is all good. This Penrith team is being hailed as one of the best ever and if they get humbled again by the Super League champions then just maybe the Aussies will want to see this game built upon.
  16. Only downside from today was Young being taken to hospital for precautionary scans after a crusher tackle.
  17. I would have thought with the NRL back to an odd number of teams and so one team getting a bye week each week, a mid year WCC would be easier logistically for the NRL than Super League. A Thursday fixture, a bye week and then a Sunday fixture is a decent window to play a game away from Australia.
  18. I have no problem with the timing of this story. If a sport has a problem, and clearly the sport of Rugby League has one here with this, then the start of a new season is surely the best time to highlight it and bring it into focus. It is a problem to fix, no need to criticise the messenger.
  19. Hardaker played last night for Leigh. So I going to say no, it's not.
