  1. So that is....

Players don't understand their payment scheme.

Players don't understand what happens should they suffer an injury.

One player has a clause in his contract, acted on after a second successive defeat later than he could have actually activated the clause.

Pleasing to know they have the finger on the pulse and communication is key.

  2. Does the link answer your question?

    https://www.rugby-league.com/get-involved/club-support/operations/insurance

On this issue I don't quite know if the NHS have stated that the injury does NOT require surgery - or,he will have to go on a very long waiting list.

Getting a second opinion seems to be the course of action before a decision is made.

I am more in shock about the statement from Ryan O'Neill the other morning, which may be what Damian Irvine has chirped up about on the Twitter account of Matthew Shaw.

Mr Irvine still seems to bear a grudge about the last minute try by Mo,at Hunslet.

He has come a long way, down, from the time of PED's in Australia and hardly set the rugby league world alight when he was involved at Bradford or Hunslet.

Perhaps the owners should stop giving him ammunition...

Or wait until Irvine goes from lower league soccer at Wycombe, now at non-league Ebbsfleet, to his next lower port of call.

I suspect the poor publicity and derogatory comments may last a little longer yet...

You'd be correct, they should have a policy in place. So should the player to be fair.

I find it astonishing that the owner expects the NHS to pick up the tab. Didn't they have some thank you NHS kit as well during covid?

That is not the case. Here is the quote -

    Quote

Lewis has an injury to his ankle, which unfortunately the NHS do not feel is essential to be fixed. As a professional rugby league player this could end his career, and despite best efforts to get Lewis the surgery he needs through the NHS, we have been unsuccessful in achieving it. We are disappointed our national health service are reluctant to operate on injuries that are needed and essential to a person's career and livelihood.

Lots of people around the country, including Labour MP's,seem to share the same feelings. Many have stronger views.

Do not mistake this post as in any way accepting the level of professionalism shown in the sport of rugby league in England. Nor the comments on Twitter, from a Super League player who chased the dollar in Toronto then whinged when the money failed to arrive.

One day the sport may improve and reach a nearly acceptable level. So may this country.

There's something seriously wrong at Keighley! The clock is ticking before they start asking fans to get their hands in their pockets again

It hasn't done Salford any harm.

Shouldn't all clubs have a Supporters Trust in operation?

There again, happy clappers who believed owners at Wigan Athletic soccer club haven't had much return for their investment.

    Who can you trust,nowadays?

Latest news Rhys Lovegrove has joined up with the London Broncos as assistant coach

Delighted for him.A major step closer to Super League and a good rival to Featherstone, this month and then possibly in October.

  6. In the Keighley News,I have just read a quote from the interim head coach where he states Santi has left because of ' matters at the club ' and not because of anything else relating to coaching or teammates, during a conversation post game on Sunday.

If it related to Rhys going,he would have left earlier, presumably.

I do think had Scott Murrell still been at the club he is sufficiently principled to have left at the time.

I don't think Castleford will be sending any players in the direction of Keighley.

Impressed by Castleford over the weekend.I wonder if Lingard had much influence?

  7. Chapeau,once again,Indigogo.

Mind you,I wouldn't mess around again with the spine of the side for Barrow, and your favoured left three quarters of Charlie and Crooks hasn't been brilliant earlier in the season.

Now Santi. Here we have a player who knows about a clause in his contract around the same time some players are unaware of payment arrangements. How strange.

Once again, an individual under contract leaves Keighley and goes to York.

Obviously the first person to leave would about the contract of the second person.

Delighted the sport is so well governed and nothing naughty goes on.

I await your next revelation with trepidation...

Is the award winning doctor and head of performance still at Keighley or did their heads get turned, earlier?

Looks like the Cougars sacked their coach because they were doing too well. Turns out they want to be back in league one next year 😉

How did the sacking of The Midlands Hurricanes coach turn out for you, today?

Second occasion you have gone onto social media about the sacking at Keighley. It doesn't help in any way, shape,or form.

Statement of intent at Midlands, apparently.Be patient.Keighley may come up with something.

The season is barely halfway through...

Hendo and Rhys will have been responsible for sourcing the players signed before this season and the responsibility was on Rhys to get the squad as a whole performing in line with the owners expectations as per their output on playing budget. This was clearly not being met. Personally I would have kept Rhys for the next run of fixtures and then seen where we were. There certainly wasn't any mention of him being sacked amongst my group of mates that attend games. As I said previously, it makes very little sense to me to sack Rhys without any semblance of a plan to replace him. Maybe I'm wrong and the club know who they want but they're not available until the end of the season 🤷🏻‍♂️ seems silly to be spending reportedly second largest playing budget of 700k and not to have a coach to match. Maybe there was more to it than just the performances and we will never the truth.

As far as I know Aaron Levy is fit and available for selection. He seemed to cop a lot of stick for the Batley cup performance. Not sure he's played since (might be wrong) and his dad Frank has obviously left the club in the mean time.

Rhys was obviously responsible for the Hull KR hook up and the loan of Gibbons from Leeds, due to his personal relationships with Willie Peters and Rohan Smith. It'll be interesting to see if Jake Webster now gets more involved with that side of things now he is DoR and officially retired. There certainly seems to have been a lot of good work done by Rhys that may now be undone by his dismissal.

I'm really intrigued to see what will change with the team/squad. Personnel wise I don't think it can change too much as we've arguably had our strongest team available barring Kyle Trout and more recently Lewis Young. I think if you asked any supporter, their team selection would mirror what Rhys has been selecting. Obviously a lot has been made of Rhys' playing style and systems/processed. Maybe we will play a simpler system that will complement our squad more, but I'm no coaching expert 😅

    Good post.Thank you.

Jake Webster, amongst all the job titles he holds today,is still Player Welfare.I am surprised he wasn't able to relay the financial arrangement situation to the players prior to the owners attending and explaining it,after the rumours went about.

If the amount of expenditure is correct,it worried me a month or two ago, following a 13 v 12 situation during a game, that the injury to a number of players would have prevented a simulation during training. This will improve with a reserve side;but it was not the fault of the head coach.

Bizarre how the current world champions St Helens, with their spend, who,at the moment aren't top of the league, haven't sacked their head coach.

More bizarrely are Cougars fans, not only wanting Miller back, but on Facebook one wanted Dalton Desmond Walker back.I dread reading it again in case they want half the Midlands Hurricanes players to return to Keighley.

Perhaps Rhys paid the price for slowly taking the club out of the amateur environment to a more professional psyche.

There again, the real reason may never come out.

Interesting that the other lesser spenders,Sheffield Eagles, who managed to persuade Thackeray out of retirement, have announced Brandon Douglas has signed for Halifax next season.

It will be interesting to see how many of the players signed and coached by Lovegrove and Henderson are still at Keighley next year.

The team spirit on display tomorrow night should be interesting.

I cannot find the quote,it may be on Facebook, but it was stated that those who went on social media spreading rumours about players not being paid were troublemakers.

18 hours ago, Mr Hicks said:

I was thinking that too. Newcastle Thunder also look like there dropping a division but not voluntarily it will be relegation from what I've seen so far.

It's a very quick demise from a team that went full time 2 seasons ago to where they are now.

Fingers crossed it doesn't happen to us or any other team. We need strong teams in all divisions.

Last season Newcastle Thunder went from full time to part time.It was known that they had financial issues for this year.Yet Miller chose to leave. It now seems the supporters want another half back signed.Miller was offered more money by the Keighley owners;before he left

They will need to spend more money on reserve players - and a head coach who will keep the side at the top of the league from round 1,weekly.Or however often they play.

If Driven Athlete,Mr Black, used by Wayne Bennett during his time as England head coach before the press drove him out,has also left the club, then looking at the last 2 performances they will need a fitness guy/girl in charge.

I think Mr Lovegrove should be blamed for this absolutely.Though it was their friendship that got him to the club in the first place.

I take it Aaron Levy is still available for selection?

Amazing that a part time head coach, who persuaded former Super League players to Keighley Cougars, should be responsible for so many things.

The owners were satisfied with the squad size prior to the signing of Luke Gale.

Just as well Mr Lovegrove used his contacts and friendship at Hull KR and Leeds to obtain the services of Keinhorst and Gibbons.

    All his fault whatever happens.

Just thought I'd start a new thread that's more positive.

Having read the answers from the Q&A session on Friday I think there is room for more optimism. It looks to me like it's more of a reset and start again next season. I dont think were going down I personally think were clear of that and also the next 8 games should see at least 5 wins come from them. What were left with coaching wise will see us out to the season end then the directors can look at things more clearly with a season under there belts.

I was never a big fan of Lovegroves but I was hoping I was proved wrong but unfortunately I wasnt.

Let's start with a win over Bradford which would have everyone bouncing again.

Well,I don't really want to upset the apple cart, but holding a question and answer session without having too many questions seems a tad strange.

It was of course, the board that has now seemingly impressed everyone, that appointed Rhys Lovegrove in the first place.

It was Rhys Lovegrove who attempted to 'professionalise' the club, and it was the people he brought to the club who are now in charge of the playing group.

The board have now parted company with 2 individuals who have Super League experience. Henderson & Lovegrove.

To paraphrase Oscar Wilde....To lose one may be regarded as misfortune,to lose two looks like carelessness.

If results were the real reason, then he has been judged prior to the time when the pitches dry out,and long before the season really matters, approaching and during play-offs.

The last two games, both lost, were during the time of the financial misunderstanding, and when the long - standing team manager wasn't preparing things before the game.

I have no doubt these things have an affect on the players mind and performance. Not really the fault of the head coach.

The club have also lost coaches who were going to coach the Talent Pathway, set up by Henderson, with Keighley College, and sponsors.

This doesn't seem to be happening, yet there is talk of a reserve and Ladies side.

It seems the owners had settled on the squad size prior to the late arrival of Luke Gale.Amazed at that. There was a whole host of injured players. Some of the new signings hadn't trained when the campaign got underway. These, apparently, were the ones unaware of the financial arrangements.

The injuries were not the fault of the head coach. He ended up negotiating with his former club for a dual registration.

It seems the people who Rhys brought to the club are still there in a coaching position but is the Head of Performance still at the club                                              Did the club really rely on troublemakers,I am referring to you,Indigo, going onto a forum, and rumours in the pubs, before they knew of the players questions pertaining to financial matters?

Anyway,I hope everyone is happy and the future is bright.I also hope Rhys Lovegrove gets back into the sport.I don't think it is going to get bigger any time soon.

The player you like, who talks to the fans,Jack Miller, took the decision to leave, and hitherto not win a Championship game, left the club and the money,to go to a club where there was recent talk of the ownership seeking a voluntary relegation - https://www.cityam.com/premiership-rugbys-newcastle-falcons-deny-plan-of-voluntary-relegation/

I wonder if IMG have them in mind for Super League.

    Funny old game...

I have seen the email that is being sent out.

When you have the second highest playing budget in the league after Fev then our league position is a failure.  Maybe it is naivety on the directors part paying such high wages but I presume it was the coach who brought the players in.

Ioane and Doyle are probably the only 2 signings that are what I would call earning there money.

Crooks doesn't have a good quality centre inside him, Walker not outstanding to say he has dropped down from Super league, Sid just doing a job which I've seen teams have players who are better.

If I owned the club and was pumping vast amounts of money in I would want to see results as well and certainly want to see us at least compete with the higher placed teams

I am quite surprised you believe what you have apparently read.

Do all directors of all the other clubs have intimate knowledge of other payments to players at other clubs?

It just needs the return of Jack Miller...

They won at Whitehaven then lost at home.

Earlier in the season they lost back to back. Why wasn't the sacking done then?

They were still, allegedly,on the second highest playing budget in the league,at that time.

How does a head coach control what directors wish to pay out to players?

Perhaps paying a head coach the second highest in the league may make him more accountable.

Perhaps paying a head coach the second highest in the league for going the extra mile way beyond his responsibilities as a coach may have been fairer.

I take it the next appointment will be an experienced head coach?

Perhaps the club should stop giving out so much information to members of the public about whom they know nothing about.Unless it's just misinformation for the gullible.

Perhaps I owe Andrew Henderson an apology...

Well I for one am massively surprised that the owners of Keighley who have recently embarrassed themselves with knee jerk, unsubstantiated nonsense choose to sack a coach in a knee jerk style.....

Embarrassing that a small club can make decisions, rightly or wrongly, far quicker than the snails pace of IMG as they await instruction from the owners of the elite League clubs.

When can we expect the new name for Super League? Difficult job, though.

Needs the intellect and sporting know how of USA folk.

  14. A good performance from Sheffield Eagles.

Hugely disappointed QLT wasn't put under any pressure.

Poor attendance - must be lots of Bradford,as well as Burnley, soccer followers in Keighley.

Worrying that Sheffield have gone the experienced route with the approx. 30 yrs of age average.Just like Featherstone they will require wholesale changes should they win the Grand Final.

No reserve sides or Academies does make things difficult.

Mark Aston seems to do annual transformations.

Good to see their 2 half backs in unison.

Older more experienced players,a diminishing older fanbase,is worrying for the sport, moving forward.

I hope IMG have some answers.

Former referees - indulging in trial by social media.

Amazing that supporters of a winning side should be so vehemently opposed to 2 incidents out of an 80 minutes game - neither which had any bearing on the result for the home side, nor did either incident result in a player sustaining injury,or garner a response from Sean Long, who really did sustain injuries from thuggery.

Mark Aston must be the longest lasting head coach and I would expect to see his disciplinary record unequalled.

That apparent flop,by his son, didn't seem unlike anything I usually see - game to game.

I guess he would be one of the lightest players on the pitch - not the best tactic for intentional thuggery.

As for the late tackle on the kicker - does he not draw his hands and arms back before the kicker does the dramatic fall?

The Bring Back The Biff crew will be crying in their berr trying to drown their screams.

Certainly got a response from those who used the opening gambit at the first game of the season - ' We're the #### of rugby league '

So you're in the "give up on international rugby league" box too?

There's nothing about emulating the other code in anything I've said. All marginal sports grow their audience through the international aspect. What do you think engages people with athletics, rowing, cycling etc.? Why do you think girls' football participation is going through the roof?

Surrender to irrelevance if you want to, I choose not to.

The first rugby league world cup was held way back in 1954,in France,a place some consider, and write,to be an expansion area.

That is almost as long as heartlands elite clubs have had to develop.

France,of course, are not blessed by broadcast money like the elite clubs.

Athletics, rowing and cycling does not have any attachment,as such,to towns or cities,so the individuals involved adopt a nationality.

John Lennon once composed a song involving the lyric '....imagine there's no countries....'.Sold a few.

More than turn out for elite rugby league, anyway.

The noise from that place in Liverpool where Elstone took a few rugby league games doesn't suggest a lot of national pride.

International sport engages new fans. Even you can admit that.

There has just been an international rugby league world cup, held in a country which houses far more than 20k.How many new fans have been engaged?

After a fortnight of free to air television coverage of Wimbledon there are more people carrying tennis rackets to parks and clubs than turn up to engage with rugby league.

The sport should end the attempt to emulate the other code.

  18. The referee for this game will be the fella who refereed 2 earlier away games, both defeats, at both Batley and Halifax - Bulldogs and Panthers.Mr Rush.

What will come first - A victory for Miller with Thunder.A victory for Gale with Trinity,or Cougars winning away with Mr Rush as referee?

Or will the identity of In The Know,Indigogo,be revealed?
