That's cool. If he wants to represent Australia then that's his choice. The choice is the point I am making... not us just stating that he must play for Australia.

He can play for who ever he wants.

Its sad that England as a “Tier one Nation” has to rummage through ancestors to put a team on the field to try and compete at Test level.

Do you think a Team with the Morris boys, Hastings, Radley, Austin would appeal to English fans or be appreciated by Australian fans.

I did not comment on your Burgess points because my thoughts on their situations could be taken the wrong way.

I appreciate your situation with your Wife and Children.

I was born in England but lived most of my life in Australia.

I have always thought of myself as Australian

My kids would only ever represent Australia the Country that has provided for us.

My Wife has a Scottish ancestory  but she only thinks of herself as Australian.

    I disagree.

I think if someone has parents of different nationalities then it is entirely reasonable for them to feel equal affinity to both nations.

I have said before on these boards... my wife is Italian and my daughter was born in this country (England) and has lived here all her life but I would expect her to grow up feeling equally British and Italian as she is very connected to her Italian heritage.  If she is talented enough to play international sport, it is entirely reasonable and her choice to decide which nation she represents.

    Some examples.

Does Sam Burgess son play for Australia as he was born there and has an Australian mother?

What about George Burgess's son.  He was  born in Australia and has an Australian mother but will grow up in England for at least a few years.

Does the fact that their fathers represented England and Radley's didn't change things?

As I say. It's not our choice, it is theirs.

And he has already made it.

He is in line to be selected for Australia,.

Its no guarantee he will even get selected for NSW, he is one player amongst many talented players.

No. Because to many stakeholders in Australia, the main hub of the sport, Origin means a great deal more than a national jersey.

Why can it not be as simple as he’s was born in Australia and considers himself Australian?
Its a sad indictment on the English game that they have to scour Australia or NZ for Heritage players.

Don't bother mentioning Australia picking immigrants in the past.

There have been about three players Australia have chosen that were mistakes and they have changed the selection process to prevent that ever happening again after the Semi debacle.

I think it is up to him to decide that.

If he decides he is English it must really motivate the English born up and coming players to want have a go at our Sport.

They get a chance to play alongside a bunch of Aussies if they get selected in a Test team.

I don’t care what other sports do, it makes our game a joke.

The Morris boys are playing better than most English backs, may as well approach them for the World Cup as

Roosters enforcer Victor Radley says he has no aspirations to represent England at any point in the future, pledging his full commitment to NSW and Australia.

    Pretty good stats I guess.

When you are a winger and not presented a try scoring opportunity then all you can do is put your hand up and work hard for the team. Which he did.

Rumours of a Rugby player who will be 33 in November retiring, what a scoop... have you told the editors to hold the back pages?

No need to be snarky Dunbar.

  6. 5 minutes ago, Dunbar said:

Didn't get a chance unfortunately... as far as I recall he only recieved one pass on the wing and despite beating a couple of defenders it was never a try scoring opportunity.

As always, he work hard bringing the ball away from his line... 17 carries and 184 metres and 5 tackles breaks (3rd highest for the Roosters).

Overall a bit frustrating that he didn't get a chance to get over the line.

    Good Stats.

    ?

Rumours are circulating he will be back in SL or retired after this season when his contract expires.

How did Ryan Hall go? Thought he might have scored when I saw the score!

He was used to run the ball up out of his own half mainly.

    Extra Forward.

Had a Captains challenge that was not given, a few other things.

I'm sure I read something recently that said Herbie had clocked one of the fastest times in sprint tests. Quicker than Josh Addo-Carr.

    Really?

I would like to see that article.

The NRL test players at different distances with 30-40 metres considered as important or more important than 100.

New Caledonia seems like the best location for a French Pacific 13 side as it has a population of 300,000, is a 2 hour flight from Brisbane to Noumea, has a similar standard of living to Australia & NZ due to Mining, French Government support & Tourism. But rugby league hasnt been played in New Caledonia since 2006. The distances between Queensland, Wallis & Futuna & French Polynesia are massive and no Rugby League is played in those territories, but there are communities from those territories living in New Caledonia.

The game would have to be reestablished on New Caledonia as well as guaranteed funding and player recruitment from the pacific and France confirmed, before QRL would consider accepting a Queensland Cup bid.

Not sure if the standard of living is the same as Australia.

Most in Noumea live in little apartments.

The cost of everything is through the roof.

If the medical system is a benchmark its so poor they have a deal with Australia to fly many cases to Cairns if needed.

Cairns base Hospital is a typical regional Hospital in Queensland.

Interesting viewpoint, you’re more qualified than most to say that. Is the ‘island time’ a reflection of their appetite for anything remotely professional or the reality of them producing any sort of quality player?

Island time is a casual laid back view of life.

Many locals resent being a French protectorate.

The last referendum was last year I think, France was left in charge but it was widely tied to the money France pour into the Country.

I can not see any indication that they are an untapped League Country.

An interesting portion of the article, I trust Super Cup better than Super League? Assuming that they're inferring NRL is no. 1

New Caledonia relies heavily on mining exports, Nickel prices have been poor for some time.

Without France propping the Islands up they would be in big trouble.

  12. I hope something comes of this but I doubt it.

I have visited Noumea/ New Caledonia many times as recently as February and Vanuatu probably even more often.

The citizens of Noumea seem like they are comfortable being propped up by France and are on   “Island time” I can not imagine a team from there competing in the QLD Cup.

Is the QLD Cup a comp that just brings in any overseas team that fancies a stepping stone to develop their players and put them in the shop window?

  13. Kallie Watkins got a few touches of the ball in today’s game,

He looks like a lightweight as if he has stripped to much weight off.

Years ago I thought he was touted as the English Greg Inglis, he looked more like Josh Addo Carr without the blistering pace.

The Titans are probably lucky the NRL season will probably finish today as they looked awful against a patchy Parramatta that tore them a new one in the second half.

Farnworth is an outstanding prospect, he is athletic, skilful, fast and has a great work ethic. His agility is second to none and he is the fittest player at the Broncos.

Look out Tommy Makinson & Tom Johnstone etc because I think Herbie will be in the World Cup squad next year if he stays fit.

    I like Herbie.

What do you base your statement that his agility is second to none and he is the fittest player at the Broncos?

Bit of a shame Watkins is at the Titans, imagine playing outside a bunch of z graders in Taylor, Roberts & Cartwright fed by Peats and Rein. Those guys haven’t got a clue how to create space or put someone through a gap.

Maybe he went to the Titans because they were the only Club offering him a deal?
Same as Sam Tomkins going to the NZ Warriors because they were the only Club prepared to pay his wage demand and the “Transfer fee”

It can go either way, look at Ryan Hall goes to a top Club and may be a bit player at the Roosters.

  16. Just now, Dunbar said:

    That could well be so.

However with size and strength comes over contributions to the team.

Remember, on average Ryan Hall made the 2nd most metres per game for the Roosters last (after James Tedesco) and on average ranked 7th on tackle busts per game.

I will wait to see Hall play this year before I write him off as a has been.

    Ok then.

We have done this conversation before.

I watched all of Halls games at the Roosters and did not see how he made those Stats, he looked lacklustre and short of confidence IMO.

I predict this year will be like Sam Tomkins second year at the Warriors, injury riddled.

    We shall see.

Perhaps as cover for the aging Brett Morris who was older than Hall was when he signed for the Roosters?

Both Morris boys have had plenty of full length of the field speed over their careers.

Maybe but Hall is at least 10 Kg heavier than Morris and looks to be filling out in a hurry.

The bigger you are the slower you get is the norm.

  18. 14 minutes ago, hunsletgreenandgold said:

Whilst everything points to J Morris joining from the Sharks and/or Crichton starting at centre with B Morris on the wing, to me Hall would still make the extended squad if he was fully fit. His scheduled return was trials week 2 but he didn't play any trials so would be surprised to see him get a run out for North Sydney.

I like Ryan Hall but I think he is going to struggle to make the grade at the Roosters.

He was always a big Winger that scored more tries in the oppositions side of the field rather than long range tries.

He is getting towards the end of his career and looks to have filled out a little, what pace he had is diminishing.

I am not sure why the Roosters signed him at his age to be honest.
