  1. True enough, though it sounds suspiciously like a coach mainly known for successes getting his excuses in early. We've got a fantastic squad full of (mostly) part-time lads who week in week out sweat blood for us and which is, crucially, plenty good enough (on paper) to finish top and go on to secure promotion. Mac needs to be more mindful of that when proclaiming publicly on the full-time issue, and focus on getting those lads ready for the challenge ahead, which they're more than capable of meeting.
  2. Nor is signing full time players (with their related costs) if their part-time equivalents are better players. It's horses for courses and in order to put ourselves in a position where we have the luxury of pondering the full-time question, we first need to make it out of the Championship. We don't need to be full time to do that, our squad last year was clearly good enough to overcome Toulouse (despite the massive advantage handed to them by the RFL), and our squad this year is as good if not better. It's now up to the coach to ensure that squad realises its potential and turns up when it really matters - over to you Big Mac.
  3. The whole situation with Chizzy is crazy. He's a gem of a player, someone who can win you games on his own with a bit of magic, which is absolutely indispensable at any level. It's an old football truism that players win you games, but defences win you championships, so I understand if McDermott is trying to make the latter our strength, and build a team that fits that mold. However even in the most defensive teams you have to find a place for the odd match-winner, particularly one as potent as Chizzy, and while it would be fair to say he's obviously not been at his best so far this season, that's the kind of thing you work out via the training pitch and (if needed) the metaphorical arm round his shoulder.
  4. Spot on, we've already got more halves than we realistically need (or can keep happy), and I wouldn't rate Ford above any of them, particularly based on what I've seen of him in the last few seasons.
  5. A few names there that could be a decent back up to Locky On a serious note, doubt we'll be seeing Fifita playing anywhere given the horror injury he suffered earlier this season.
  6. Agreed, in fact I'm just off to research recent Dally M award winning props to see who may be coming in next!
  7. Leilua is a phenomenal signing for this level. Big well done to MC and all at the club for getting this one done! Can't wait to see him in a Fev shirt.
  8. Transfer list? Only joking, he's obviously got to fight for his place just like everyone else, and in view of his competition that will make him an even better player. Anyway there are two centre spots up for grabs, so Hall could play on t'other side from Big Joey (with Hardy on the bench), or outside him on the wing for maximum damage? Nice problem to have for sure.
  9. Yes m'lud. Who can we get on the case.........
  10. Keep your hair on Petrocelli, he's only positing an opinion, which I believe is what the forum is for.
  11. Agree with that, all good lads in the pack already but they just need reinforcements. We've obviously lost the energy of Harrison and Halton (not that I'm convinced we've seen the last of either....), and the additional grunt would take some of the responsibility and fatigue off the shoulders of the likes of Locky and Kopczak, both of whom have an important part to play next year, but need to be used carefully. Thanks to our ridiculous injury situation last year we had to ask more of them at times than we may have preferred, and I thought it really showed by the time we creaked into the final in Toulouse. Agree with your other comment above re Callum F too, who had a great first season with us, and looks capable of plenty more development; could become one of the first names on the team-sheet if he stays fit.
  12. Hopefully the JSL signing happens; I'd be delighted to see him join us as he's the kind of player that can and will improve us in various ways. We clearly need to bring some fresh size and energy into the pack (one of the reasons we struggled against an eminently beatable Toulouse), and presumably Coach Terry will have identified this too and will be taking steps to strengthen as required. Two monster props who can do big minutes would of course be perfect, but easier said than done......
  13. Have to say I laughed at that too, but in fairness to him these signing statements are usually a cut and paste job from a preferred list of platitudes held in the club's word document store, and he probably had to hold his nose a bit when he agreed to it. Good luck to him though, he's been superb for us and I'm extremely sorry to see him go. Perhaps he knows something we don't, and London's sugar daddies are about to spaff yet another pointless fortune up against the wall, just so they can keep playing fantasy RL? Wonder if any of their current squad might fancy playing for a real club? Rhys Curran, Greg Richards, Olsi Krasniqi - could any of them do a job for us? Would we have Josh Walters back?
  14. One doesn't wish to be too greedy. Be happy to keep both, and delighted if Nu decides to sign up for at least another year. Might there be a link here to the rumours re Parata? Perhaps if Webster has determined that we only need one of Jones or Parata (wouldn't have wanted to have to make that call as both are fantastic hookers, at this level in particular) it is in part because he's trying to keep Nu and knows we can deploy him at hooker too if cover is needed. Be very sorry to see Parata go, if the rumours are true, as he's been one of our players of the season. Can Webbo woo Nu?
  15. Chizzy's going nowhere, and for a positive rumour I'll go with..... Ash Golding re-joining us permanently from Huddersfield. Next years back line of Golding, Briscoe, Hall, Hardcastle, Gale, Holmes and Chizzy is going to take some stopping.......
  16. Next season can wait, we ought to be asking him if he's busy next Sunday.
