  1. Having looked at the highlights, I remain convinced that the wrong decision was given in relation to Lewis Carr being stripped of the ball early in the second half. IF it wasn't a steal in a 2-man tackle then it was at least knocked out by Fleming and the ball went forward. At best, a penalty to RAMS - at worst a scrum with RAMS head and feed. Instead, it was 'play-on', Widnes scored and the game was effectively gone.......... Fine margins, eh ??
  2. I believe the absentees were all because of injury .... O'Connor, Rush, Turner and Graham ..... We made too many basic errors today and that contributed massively to our defeat - we could have got away with them last year but not at this level ..... We're still coming to terms with that step up but there's a lot of games left and we ARE improving !!
  3. What a great result.... Been keeping an eye on the Twitter feed and chuffed for Dale and the lads. In Mauritius just now but back for the Widnes game..... let's hope we can kick on now after tonight's win ..... Roll on Sunday
  4. ........ and, if we'd adopted the FEV approach for the last few years I don't think we'd have a club now .... Is that what people really want ?? Fev are still in the Championship - same division as us, but somebody has lost an awful lot of money for them to 'achieve' that ......... MS stated quite clearly at the Fans Forum that last year we lost £150k and stand to lose possibly the same again this year - we now get £40k 'funding' from the TV monies, which started out years ago at £600k ......... There are a LOT of people towing their nuts off to support the club and keep it going (volunteers, sponsors, Amber Ribbon, squadbuilder etc) and their only reward seems to be a bunch of 'fans' ready to moan and groan about the slightest thing and stop supporting the Clubs' efforts as soon as we aren't winning ....... Until the next Sheikh or EuroMillions Lottery Winner steps forward, I think we need to accept things as they are and get behind the efforts of all involved to stay in the Championship and do well enough to avoid any negatively impacting changes to the structure below Super League. See you all on Sunday
  5. Let's hope you bring plenty over -- good atmosphere, shared gate and all that .......... As always a warm welcome after the game in the Royal Suite for ALL supporters (don't think we allow drums tho' )
  6. Wasn't able to attend but never saw that result coming ..... the last thing we need to do though is throw the baby out with the bath water - This squad still looks at least as good last year's but whatever happened yesterday, my thinking is NOT to chop & change but give those players the chance to make amends next time out. Some years ago we went to York with a team including (i believe) Darren Roberts, Franny Maloney, Ryan Sheridan, Chappy etc and we got tonked by something like 74-10 ...... these days happen (especially with Dewsbury) but it doesn't suddenly make everything wrong. Everybody involved should (and I reckon will) be hurting after that result but let's not lose sight of the fact we have some damn good players and as fans the way we can help is get behind them, turn up in numbers and show the same pride we ask for from the players.
  7. After Fergie admitted to having the 'right sort of headache', what would your selection look like for Sunday @ Keighley ?? here's my stab at it: Restall: Carr - Greensmith - O'Connor - Whiteley : Sykes - Turner : Beckett - Davies - Hird - Garside - Graham - Dawson (or Collinson) Bench: Hookem : Dixon : Morris : Dawson / Collinson Hopefully that's good enough to get us our first win in 2024.
  8. Apart from being in touch and not grounding the ball, I can't see anything wrong with Fev's last try ..............
  9. I think that's a fair summing up CF : Neither team at full strength but still a useful pre-season run out and maybe a reminder that our concentration levels will need to be a lot higher than in League 1...... Joe Hird looked to have potential, Curtis Davies was very busy, good to see Matt Garside getting game time under his belt, Hookem and Walker showed their promise and Sykes reminded everyone just how valuable he is still to this team. The only players I can think who haven't had a run yet are Morris and Copley - maybe we'll see them Sunday - and we definitely missed the power of Whiteley and Dixon, plus (for the first 30 minutes or so) Greensmith ...... There's a lot of true competition for places in this squad and that can only be a good thing - providing everyone is willing to fight for a place. Some glimpses of flowing open play and a behind-the-back pass from Walker stood out ........ An enjoyable afternoon - Not bad for a Tenner
  10. That's incredibly sad ..........Thoughts and condolences with Andy and those close to him.
  11. That has to be THE understatement of 2023 ......
  12. On the play the ball issue, let's hope we get it sorted quickly.... Rather today than in a Championship fixture .... Thought the game was a good offering for pre-season fodder and some of our new guys showed up well .... A decent crowd and favourable weather all adding up to a good 'do' all round .... Roll on the season proper
  13. It certainly was an excellent turn out and the Kit and Season Tickets looked to be doing okay..... Definitely like the new 'Away' kit .... Roll on Boxing Day
  14. Your chance to meet the players (old & new) and to see the 2024 Kits - Friday 8th December @ 7:30pm in the Royal Suite
  15. Makes the signing of Travis Corion more meaningful ...........cover on the wing spots now with Carr, Whiteley, Dixon and Corion vying for a place
  16. Season Tickets will be £200 adults - 10% early bird offer before end of year (I think) South Stand will be open for most league games £20 Adult entry in 2024 - North or South Stand Happy with retaining a lot of last year's squad and aiming to build a team rather than buy one - which would add to club's losses MS not a fan of IMG & their 'grading' system Boxing Day is a 12:12 kick off .........other friendlies away to Fev and at home to Huddersfield Giants (21st Jan if I recall correctly) Andy Gabriel has, sadly, retired from the game following another injury James Chapman taking on the 'conditioning & fitness' role as well as Assistant Coach New sponsors on board for 2024 alongside established long-term sponsors Meet the players & Kit Launch night on 8th Dec @ 7:30pm in Royal Suite Think that covers most of it .............
  17. ............are we forgetting Andy Gabriel or have I missed something ???
  18. Leigh's win in the Challenge Cup - a year after being a Championship side The NRL Grand Final - from another planet But the BIG highlight for me.......... Being around and MC'ing the 1973 Championship Dinner : 50 years' celebration of DEWSBURY's finest moment ....... Being able to talk to players from both sides, as well as Tommy Smales ( Dewsbury coach) was an absolute dream -- taking me back to that wonderful time when these guys were absolute heroes (and still are) to me. We'll probably never see Dewsbury as Rugby League Champions again, but at least I was there on the day and then 50 years later: Magic !!
  19. Friday 24/11 for the Fans Forum and Friday 8th December for Kit Launch - Meet the players ............. both announced on Club website
  20. Combine the Championship and League1 ......... make it a 34 game season, with 13 games home & away vs Championship Teams and 4 games at home vs 4 League 1 clubs and 4 games away to the other League1 clubs .......... Top 8 play-off , straight forward 1v8, 2v7, etc ....... Semis and Final Following season....... Same format with four games at home vs 4 of the bottom 8 teams and four games away vs the remaining 4 of the bottom 8 teams. It's a 'top of my head' suggestion, but I can't see why it wouldn't work ..............
  21. Today's headline on BBC Sport .......... Thankfully Rugby Union pages referring to Jersey Reds -- makes you glad we have the likes of Mark Sawyer steering a steady ship and keeping US with a club to follow ........ Maybe those who have berated Mark in the past will re-think their position on the matter
  22. Well.... In this thread and a previous one ( Thanks Finny ... who's next) the longest list of possible candidates was a list of those NOT wanted ..... all this 'no ambition ' 'could have done better ' garbage is tedious ..... no-one (except Rhys Lovegrove) has been put forward as a serious candidate - and even then he may not have applied ...... we'd all prefer Heidi Klum to Susan Boyle -- but not the best idea if what you really need is a good singer .....
  23. Well, if he coaches like he plays, we won't back down to anybody and, boy, it'll be entertaining...... Finny hinted that Ferguson was a big part of things on the training ground last year - he knows the club , the players and behind the scenes so let's get 'on board' with it and hope he works out even better than Finny did - and let's not forget, it was Finny's first Head Coach job and that didn't work out too badly
  24. I think the CLUB STATEMENT on the website makes their position absolutely clear ....... as always, it's the unsilent minority causing the problems, apparently. What a shame that, at the end of such an excellent season, the Club (and MS) are faced with this ...........
