  1. Just remembered this from the weekend. While checking in at the Bolton Travelodge on Saturday, my mates and I got chatting to the assistant manager. He asked if we were up for the RL. I said yes, to which he replied that his son used to play a bit. Asked if I knew of a lad called...Kevin Penny? Nothing to do with the RLWC per se, but cheered me up all the same (he had also played basketball for my home town back in the 1980s, what a guy)
  2. Just got back, having stayed overnight in Bolton. Big thumbs up - the bar in the leisure centre, where service was swift and the cans were cold. Then being able to get in to hotel bar after the game and cheer the players as they walked back to the coach. Even managed to grab a pic with Dom Young - amazing to be able to get that sort of access to the players just after a big game. Big thumbs down - almost impossible to see the score or game clock on the big screen (we were behind the sticks at the opposite end of the stadium and I didn't bring my binoculars).
  3. Yes, came on to this thread to say pretty much this. It was a shame that Scotland hardly even landed a blow but that final try was worth the entrance fee alone. A real 'wow' moment that only live sport can give you.
  4. Yeah, nothing like defeat being snatched from the jaws of victory! Have backed Tedesco at 13/8 to score a try in each half, so watch him get subbed off in the 41st minute, never to return.
  5. That's a decent shout. Although the way my luck is at the moment, if I back it, you can be sure Scotland will get a breakaway try in the first minute...
  6. Lindsey Burrow is an absolute titan. I've no idea how she manages to keep things going like she does.
  7. Yeah, I can't speak for everyone, but I bought my tickets so long ago they're effectively a sunk cost and I'd have to look at the tickets to know how much each one cost me. (Goes to drawer in lounge where the tickets are) £25 for the Scotland v Australia game in Coventry on Friday. If they said tickets for the stand I'm in were now going for £10 in order to get a good crowd in, I wouldn't be remotely fussed.
  8. Definitely. GB were out in Australia ( **** you Willie Mason), so England was indeed an 'A' team. I went to England's game v Tonga at The Stoop, just dug out the programme, couple of pics here: https://ibb.co/WFBwCp8 https://ibb.co/PNzm3NX Tournament seemed like a good idea, but as usual, dropped very quickly.
  9. England absolutely pumping a dangerous opponent in front of a huge crowd and a BBC1 Saturday afternoon audience. Just what the doctor ordered.
  10. Starting to get a buzz now. I've fallen a bit out of love with the sport over the last year - London Broncos moving yet again and the RLWC being postponed the main factors. But got a Cov/Bolton/Doncaster road trip with some pals planned for next weekend and will also be heading to the final in November with a mate and our young sons. Hopefully this will re-kindle the fire!
  11. If you seriously think that a rugby league odds compiler, working for a UK-facing firm, doesn't watch ANY Super League games, then I don't know what else to say.
  12. I had that one. Although wore it once at a Bronquins v Saints games at The Stoop and had some Saints wag (presumably instinctively) say "#### off Wigan" at me. Anyway. I thought it was a great top and that red and white hoops would be a good look for England.
  13. Surely she's talking about when Wigan got a drop goal to beat Leeds in the 2003 playoffs. I mean, not like her to make a ridiculous gaffe is it...
  14. Absolutely robbed Southend United, who had won the Southern League Second Division at an absolute canter. But it's ok, I'm over it now. Mostly.
