It could be a lucrative option for LT. Sutton comes in, LT goes to West’s on a 2 year deal with his wages paid at his agreed rate for 2023 and an uplift or even the same for 2024.

And the salary cap...
To succeed in football, most promoted teams have to spend loads, often more than the top teams. We strictly prohibit that for promoted teams.
It would put a lot of a clubs money at risk to assemble a team which would have an above average chance of staying in SL. One year contracts aren’t going to cut it and legal caveats for ‘if we don’t achieve promotion’ would riddle contracts. Imo that’s not a good business plan unless you’ve the money of a very rich man.
Secondly, most of good player availability has been picked off until the NRL cut contracts or some ‘bad lads’ become available, plus, we have the Dolphins in the market place now.
Money and player availability are the main sticking points in my opinion.

Indeed . I know wests were mentioned but Bennett may look at taking him after working with him internationally . May not be a bad thing for Thompson actually
Has he still got another year, after this, on his contract for the Dogs?

I don't disagree that there may be a better way, but these are long established rules, generally the ones we have used for most of the SL era so I don't agree they are thrust on anyone or ever changing.
I find it interesting when people complain about changes and then propose their own changes.
I have read ‘rules’ regarding assisting promoted teams somewhere in RFL documents but I can remember where.
Possible this was from the 90’s but either way, the system of P&R we have now is not really much different to football except for those clubs having more money to spend when promoted and the game doesn’t rely on physical domination as much.
Too many different permutations of P&R to even bother contemplating.

He is responsible, as the FB he's the last line of defence. 3 of the 6 he was nowhere to be seen when the try scorers went over. You can try to defend him all you like but to be so far out of position for 3 of the 6 is laughable. To use you goalkeeper analogy its like having your keeper walking round near the corner flag when the ball goes in the net.
This means that every try scored is the fault of the FB and mitigates the fact that teams can ship the ball quicker than a player can run. Which is not true.

I don't think TO are anywhere near as far on in their journey to becoming a big club with a solid support base as many others do. But I still feel they have that potential. I'd hoped to see the squad strengthened. I wish there'd been a way to open their season with a home match against Catalans in a post-Covid world.
However, if they finish bottom in 2022, it will be as much their responsibility as anyone else's. We ought to be thinking how to make the 2023 Championship into a better place to land (for any relegated club) rather than continuing with this strategy of Super League or bust.
We don’t really know the truths about Houles recruitment plans but it did appear to me that it was tentative.
Bottom lines are that the P&R system we have doesn’t allow enough time to recruit and Clubs don’t have enough money to pay the going rate for sufficient players to ensure remaining in SL.

Can't disagree with any of that LD, but I feel that their defence is a priority it was suggested that the absence of their long standing fullback is a reason that the defence is not as organised as it should be but I saw the highlights of the Salford game it wasn't as much the organisation of the defence more like the tackling techniques that are lacking, this is not criticism it is an observation.
Just watched the highlights only but the line chase from the kickoff was all over the place, which usually shows how committed the defence are.
The first try in the 2nd half (Wigan) should never have happened. Just a simple commitment to drop on the ball by a TO player near the posts.

Looks a real handful.
Let's see how Hull can take that and squander it over the coming years! Lewis Bienek looked a handful too...
That’s the spirit!

The thing from those figures you present Scubby, is yes the TO offence is going in the right direction, but as the old saying goes in our game, "defences win matches" again yes the TO defence is improving but it must still be a worry conceding 29 points as the best return, considering next week in my opinion Wakey are a team that when it clicks for them are well capable of scoring quite a few points, TO will need to tighten the defence up if they are hopeful of a first victory.
Improvements in the Team winning promotion are to be expected as, like others going up into SL, there is little time to plan for going up.
TO are slowly finding their feet. A couple of decent signings could be the difference and imo an organising half back.

Difficult to get into the mindset that French players, playing in SL is an issue - even Hull teams dragged into it. FFS, only on this Forum eh?

Their involvement in Rugby League in the past has, at best, been mixed so we'll see how this goes.
What involvement have they had MjM? I don’t know much about them?

Exactly, entertainment is the game - you want to watch wins ground out, there are teams that do that
Winnings the game mate. Catalans have done that for the last two weeks whilst being short of regular first teamers. I’m sure Powell would have taken 1-0 if he had chance.
Early season yet anyway.

Must be decent to go for a fee at that age. Is he from that neck of the woods?
Leeds. I seem to remember reading he wanted to be closer to home. Maybe the quieter run across to Hull is preferable to the 62?

Get down on them old knees if you're backing us. We might need a bit of the old devine intervention. Last minute winner?
I think the weather gives HKR more chance.
Some quite big odd for HKR players to score first. I think that might be worth a punt. Ryan Hall 12-1, Linnett 20-1, Max Rooms 50-1.

Hull FC have paid a fee to sign Denive Balmforth from Warrington’s academy. Don’t really know much about him, but it’s claimed he’s highly rated. I guess being behind two international hookers in the pecking order means he wouldn’t get many chances at the HJ.
Not sure how much Hull have paid.
He is already an international in his age group.
Only 18 and I’m amazed Wire let him go. Excellent acquisition and one for the future.

Not sure of your point.
He was asked his opinion on it and gave it. It looked alright from where I was stood as well, and I was directly under where Agar was sitting.
Now Ive watched it back I think he does connect with the head but it wasn't malicious and there was no intent, so should just get a grade A with no ban - you know like Currie did.
I wouldn’t gamble on that Chris. Depends on which way the wind blows.

Wigan by a few.
Interesting that Hardaker or Farrell are an even money bet to score a try at any time. I’d be amazed if either didn’t score.
-
Interesting game this. Imo Hudds have a top 5 team. Salford will be desperate to improve on last weeks performance.
Hudds giving 12 points start is only even money so the bookies are confident in a home win. I think it might be closer than that.

So what's your interpretation of "Should be in place for the WC" LD? as I implied Davy is not expecting anything soon to happen that is why he is saying at least 8 months to come to fruition.
Personally I am not in the least bothered about structural changes, I am quite happy with P&R by whatever function it employs maybe 1 for 1, or top Championship team immediate promotion then a play off with 11th placed SL team for a second Champ team to be promoted, or even resurrecting the 8's system anything will suit me, but some people are hoping for a structural change, Mr Beaumont this morning in 'Love RL" is campaigning for a 2 X 10's system as are a lot of other people, whilst a 14 SL is very favourable amongst fan's, but I don't expect anything will happen with this suggested new governance till '24 at the earliest.
There you are then. Expectations satisfied H!

So anyone who is stating or hoping there will be another structural change to either a 14 team SL or 2 FT divisions of 10 can forget that happening, surely such major changes will have to be put on hold until the new governance is in place to discuss, decide and advise the club's that changes will be effective for next season '23, the statement "should be in place for the WC" say's to me don't expect it to be in place before this season's end.
All these ‘could, should, might’ comments really mean wait and see Harry. We’ve never had any hard and fast commitments other than the disclaimer that’s it’s been a complicated challenge.

Davy says it should all be in place for the WC. Taken some time, which doesn’t show too much urgency to me but at least it seems to be positive.

Surely just merging to form a single body is better?
What I take from it is they are forming their own commercial entity. Percentages are mentioned in name only.
Hopefully, we will get clarification on how this will all work. Fine details.

We don’t have to dress anything up. Some of those efforts, were very close and even over the line so, barring one effort, would have been very difficult to prevent. I would have expected him to make a better effort on one of them but would not blame him for all.
Rugby League isn’t a game of perfect and if we are expecting that, every player on the pitch will fail many times a match.
Connor isn’t the best defensive FB, neither is Ratchford, Welsby or Tomkins but he offers a better attacking game than the first 2 and is equal to ST in my opinion.
