  1. Apparently, the appointment was a mistake: https://www.bbc.com/sport/rugby-league/66393488
  2. Germany out with a +5 gd and Morocco through with a -4. People like that unexpected side to Football. RL is a great game for rewarding the better side. However, in WCs it creates blowout scores of a predictable nature.
  3. When it poses a risk of immediate injury or potential longer term repercussions.
  4. I'm glad the WC will still go ahead. The fewer number of teams is wise too with less one sided matches.
  5. After the second home attendance figure, they are rounded estimates.
  6. Why can every other club publish weekly figures but Hull KR refuse when obviously they could? There must be a reason beyond being awkward. People are interested in something beyond an average stretching over a prolonged period. Your defense of their action gave no reason. It's not about being salty, it's about calling out an unacceptable practice.
  7. No sorry. I recall a joke from the Two Ronnies about a bushfire in Australia. The firefighter was telling a friend they had run out of water fighting a fire but luckily a beer tanker was going past and they used that to put out the fire. The second man lamented the waste of beer. The firefighter replied, "Oh it wasn't wasted. We drank it first".
  8. I'd suggest creating a clone of yourself to get some help. You could use an extra pair of hands. If I lived in the area, I'd give you a hand with some of that stuff (although I'm not au fait with plumbing). All the best KM.
  9. Mahrez and Hendo are off to Saudi Arabia.
  10. Just to clear up any possible misunderstandings, I'm not one of them.
  11. "The biggest event in RL History" I hope that's hyperbole on the part of Foxsport. A certain meeting at the George Hotel in 1895 comes to mind. Also the 1907-08 tour from down under. This may be an important move by RL or a complete fizzer. Let's see.
  12. Wigan was in the second division for the only time in its history I believe.
  13. The Div 1 clubs of 80-81 are listed according to crowds. Interestingly Hull provided the top two. The 2023 column shows green teams are in SL and purple are now in a lower division. Oldham and Workington are in League One and their figures are my estimates. The final column shows the difference, green up and yellow down. The two teams in both top flights that are lower in attendance are KR and Wakefield. The only club that has dropped out of the top flight and is up is Fev. The big losses are for teams that are now in a lower division. SL is 80% up on Div 1 back then. Clubs 80-81 2023 % Hull FC 11,711 12,885 10.0% Hull KR 8,904 8,745 -1.8% Bradford 6,105 3,871 -36.6% Leeds 5,934 13,727 131.3% Widnes 5,306 2,945 -44.5% St Helens 4,934 13,018 163.8% Warrington 4,916 10,931 122.4% Wakefield 4,814 4,296 -10.8% Castleford 4,616 7,217 56.3% Leigh 4,498 7,063 57.0% Halifax 4,090 2,017 -50.7% Barrow 4,065 2,219 -45.4% Salford 3,458 5,139 48.6% Oldham 3,220 600 -81.4% Featherstone 3,007 3,114 3.6% Workington 2,188 800 -63.4% TOT AVG 5,110 9,239 80.8%
  14. There is an overall increase. I think the arrival of SL gave impetus to attendances. It has slipped in more recent times but 2023 is going well. Hopefully it's sustained. It could be a relief after Covid to be able to get out and watch some games.
  15. Yes, I do have them but for simplicity here they are in 5 year groupings as averages. 1980-1 to 84-85: 4,894 1985-6 to 89-90: 5,799 1990-91 to 94-95 6,080 1995-95 to 1999 6,443 2000 to 2004 7,411 2005 to 2009 9,369 2010 to 2014 8,770 2015 to 2019 8,744 2020 to 2021 were Covid hit. 2022 was 8,357 2023 up to now 9,239 The best years were 2008 at 9,891, 2007 9,858, and 2012 9,572.
  16. SL and NRL attendance summary for the season so far can be seen on the blog: https://rugbyl.blogspot.com/ Championship data added since.
  17. The Women's World Cup in Football is being held in NZ. FIFA WC CEO and a company GM have announced 20,000 free tickets are being made available for the first match in four NZ cities. It's being done so that Kiwis can "experience some of these amazing athletes"..."More people will be inspired by these athletes...hopefully grow the game locally". A maximum of four tickets can be ordered online. Should RL have been giving away tickets to WC games? I don't know how I'd feel paying full price with freebies on offer. They certainly gave it a positive spin though.
  18. I put this brief summary together: https://rugbyl.blogspot.com/2023/07/state-of-origin-2023.html
  19. The Major League Cricket in the US is about to start. I didn't think I'd ever see this. I assume the sizable Indian immigrant communtiy to the US will be right behind it, not to overlook other nations too. I think many feel it disrupts other Cricket going on around the world but these tournaments are a fantastic payday for players.
  20. I went to a French RL forum and not one mentioned the ref. They all were disappointed about the performance of the Dragons and felt the Giants deserved their win. I was impressed by their fairness and not seeking excuses.
