  1. Strangely I have the option of Gloucester versus Leicester on a nearby screen . I'll let you all know what's happening. I've seen a pass already.
  2. Thing is I struggle with games that are over-reffed. This is much better in that respect.
  3. Now there's a thing. I moan incessantly about the same clubs at/winning the GF and the derision attracted by the LLS, but 7/10 ‽!! That's good, that's actually quite a positive imo.
  4. So here's a thing, we generally agree that RL is the greatest game yet constantly comment on how short it falls of its potential. For me the ugly wrestle, repetitive one out plays, random officiating kills the spectacle. Away atm and didn't see last nights game but how can we 'encourage' a great spectacle? Ok I'm on dodgy ground here but is it worth asking the question, Why was 60 mins of Warrington v Saints Fab and how do we make that 80 mins? Or should we?
  5. I dont want to sound grumpy or disrespectful of their efforts but Wigan v Saints GF just fills me with tedium. Perhaps it shouldn't but ....
  6. Hell Fire, here I am in the Peleponese with the worst wifi since the fall of the Byzantine Empire and the match is available on YouTube. So let's get this right: choppy internet AND James Child!!!
  7. I don't see a Wigan loss as a loss to RL as some do. But it is sport so a Cas win would in my eyes be a great story. A brave Wigan win then. Bah! Will miss the game but will still be listening in on this forum so keep me informed, Ta.
  8. I was there, didn't see anything in the tackle so I'm calling him soft when he stayed down. Eventually he gets onto all fours and what looked like a pint of blood fell out of his head. I shut up. A fractured palate I heard later. Still feel queasy about it.
  9. Reduce to 12. Reduce to 7-8 metres. This reduces the 'cart it in' effectiveness. And gives more space away from the ptb. RU would love it perhaps....
  10. I'd suggest one out plays are used because the defense is 10m away. Easy safe gains. Not 6 agains.
  11. penalising wrestling on the floor But they(the authorities) have to allow the wrestling in order to give the defense time to retreat 10m. Officiate as per the 'rules' and the defense would be offside practically every ptb. Hence a smaller offside means less need to wrestle as the defense has less distance to retreat.
  12. I agree with your walking off the mark point. Such a lot of ugly slavver comes from this. Not sure about the offside/extra space argument though. I remember the 10m offside would create extra space for more creative rugby but it just allowed safe easy metres from repeated carting the ball in. I think the ugly wrestle is there to allow the defence to retreat 10m, a completed tackle straight away puts the defence in a awkward position. Sounds daft but a 7m offside might help these situations. Might not either of course.
  13. Thing is if 'BIG' teams are required to make RL relevant then what's the point? If our game has to be qualified by 'BIG' teams rather than RL in general then I could imagine the game might suffer.
  14. Liam Watts must be feeling lucky to be still to be playing for the rest of the season!
  15. I know, I'm on a substantial amount of Ouzo myself but with the best will in the world I've no idea what you're on about. If close competitive standards don't provide the best options for a competition then... As I say I missed the point of your last post.
  16. Red John, no quote, if you are saying SL needs a dominant club in order for SL to thrive rather than say a competitive league then ...... then, if find that depressing. That is, the St PieLoins lose 1k attendance each. The rest gain 500 thinking they might win. That has to be more healthy surely?
  17. There is a good point here. To be competitive should be good enough for any team. For some teams that is not good enough. Some sort of disproportionate success is required, whatever the diminution to the rest of the competition. A competitive league isn't deemed good enough.
  18. I wasn't going to comment as it would be a largely miserable moan with no redeeming features. I've no idea why I thought this would be unacceptable. So, about 25, 30 years ago? Cas beat Wigan in a league match. The report in the Rugby Leaguer? consisted of 4 paragraphs over half a page. Cas didn't get a mention in the report till halfway down the third paragraph. And here we are today talking about a team who lost the GF in the last moments of the game who are currently 4th in the table. I'd like to think the game was stronger than this but then again I am mostly grumpy these days.
  19. Yeah, had a bad feeling about this so when Wakey came back into it I was flapping. I can imagine all too easily the efforts of Mr Child to entertain.
  20. Thing is I moan about as much about RL as anyone here but if the ref deems some ugly slavver as worthy of reward then what do you do as a coach? Play to higher principles and get sacked or gain some advantage by ugly slavver? We all laugh at the antics of footballers but if it didn't work then why do it? Btw I never got the incidents of gamesmanship/cheating as clever play. It works yes but at what cost to the game in general? Right then, bored of ranting about this, I'll have to find something else to rant about......
  21. In the same way that Cas cant win at Saints. Everything is a bit wappy atm.
