  1. From what I've seen, the BBC are saying they aren't necessarily cancelling Q of S for good but are just shelving it for the foreseeable future and so aren't giving up their rights to the copyright, in which case another channel couldn't simply put on a new version of Q of S and would have to create their own sports quiz.
  2. I was always taught you did the calculations in brackets if there is any and then do the rest of the problem in order as it is written. So if the 8 x 8 was in brackets you would get -48 but it isn't in brackets here so, like I say, I was taught you just did the separate calculations in the order they are written.
  3. Right, 8 is what I get from doing it exactly the same way you did it. Like yourself, I was never very good at maths. Can someone please explain to me, as simply as possible, why the answer is -48?
  4. If you work out this maths problem, what answer do you get? 8 - 8 x 8 + 8 I don't know if maths is taught differently these days but apparently the answer I get is not correct.
  5. I can assure you my accent is not sexy. The sexiest British accent is any kind of Irish accent.
  6. On this day in 1939, Gone With the Wind is released for the first time in the US. Adjusted for inflation, it is the highest grossing film in history at $4.2billion.
  7. An important day in the history of aviation; On this day in 1782, the Montgolfier Brothers first test fly one of their hot air balloons with it floating nearly 2.5km. On this day in 1903, the Wright Brothers first attempt to test fly their Wright Flyer at Kitty Hawk.
  8. On this day in 1993, the Wearmouth Colliery closed, bringing to an end the mining of the County Durham coalfield, a coalfield that had been continually mined since the Middle Ages.
  9. I subscribe to History Hit's YouTube channel. I particularly like the series of videos they did about surviving different historical time periods. One of the guys who took part in that series has started his own channel with a similar theme called Survive History. If you want a really detailed and comprehensive series about the Napoleonic Wars, the YouTube channel Epic History TV have done a mind blowing series that will teach you everything you need to know.
  10. On this day in 1960, the first episode of Coronation Street aired. It has since become the longest running soap in the world. I wonder if there's anyone out there that's watched every single episode?
  11. Both great films. When I really want to treat myself I allow myself the time to enjoy a double bill of the first two Police Story films. Absolute masterpieces.
  12. I've had fun this afternoon watching two of my all time favourite films, the first two Rush Hour films. Still deciding whether I want to watch the third one which does fall a bit short of its predecessors. I love Jackie Chan, always have from when I was a kid. I think if I was allowed to meet just one actor in my life, I would actually choose Jackie Chan over anyone else.
  13. On Monday I was expecting a phone call. Didn't get it. Finally rung the person myself on Wednesday and they sincerely apologised for not ringing me and we conducted our business. The person then promised to ring me again on Thursday afternoon. Didn't ring me. I tried ringing them a couple of times yesterday, one time even being informed the individual I'm trying to get hold of was going to ring me right after a meeting. Friday lunchtime and I'm still waiting. I'm getting really, really annoyed.
  14. Tell you what, you're getting your money's worth if you get his name printed on your shirt!
  15. Three men are killed in a car crash. They arrive at the gates of heaven and are greeted by St. Peter who says to them, "to get into heaven you have to have something related to the church on your person". The first man steps forward and points to his trousers, "they were too long for me when I bought them so I had to altar them". St. Peter admits the man to heaven. The second man steps forward, takes his keys out of his pocket and jingles them, "they're bells", he says. St. Peter agrees they sound like bells and admits him. The third man steps forward, puts his hand into his jacket and pulls out a bra and thong. St. Peter doesn't understand and asks, "how are they anything to do with the church", to which the man replies, "they're Carol's".
  16. Well as its the first Sunday of advent, Mrs. Goose has put up the Christmas Tree, jingle all the way!
  17. That film was so sh*t. I walked out of there angry at how poorly it had portrayed possibly the greatest military mind in history and how much of his greatest achievement had been so glossed over. Only about 10 minutes in the entire film about the Russian Campaign. Only a couple of minutes on Austerlitz, which, as I say, is considered his greatest victory. Only a couple of lines spoken that vaguely mention the Italian Campaign. No mention whatsoever about Trafalgar or Leipzig, one of the decisive battles of the wars. Sh*t film.
  18. A couple for fellow Napoleon buffs out there; On this day in 1804, Napoleon Bonapatre crowns himself Emperor of France at Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris. On this day in 1805, Napoleon masterpieces his greatest victory, decisively defeating a combined Russo-Austrian force at the Battle of Austerlitz.
  19. It dropped quite a bit in the 90s but when matchroom came in it recovered massively, plus the massive amount of sponsorship that comes in from China these days. Back in the 80s there was about 4 or 5 ranking tournaments, now there tends to be around 16, with the odd one or two coming and going on the calender. A few years ago the World Championship winners prize money reached £500,000 for the first time. The UK Championship which is on now has a winners prize of £250,000. Even just smaller events like the Northern Irish or Scottish opens have a winners prize of £80,000. A top player in a single season can make £1,000,000 easily.
  20. Prize money now is much bigger than its ever been and there are far more tournaments now as well.
  21. Yeah, Red Star Belgrade entered in 2019. They played at Millom and were beaten pretty comfortably if I remember rightly. That same year Toulouse and Toronto didn't enter the competition because of those bonds they were told to pay by the RFL.
  22. On this day in 1973, Papua New Guinea gains independence from Australia. On this day in 1990, the two ends of the Channel Tunnel meet.
